Do you think/why do you think Penn State lacks the physical and mental toughness of bygone PSU Teams?

Do you agree it needs to be restored to compete at the highest level?

Can we get there with Franklin? And if so, how?

Calling Marshall. Your opinion garners respect. What say you?

Marshall…. Marshall…. Marshall..!!

Bueller??? Bueller???

Anyone?? Anyone??

Illinois came over to our sideline at the end of the game and chumped our team by mocking them. Parker Washington had to be held back but no one else made a move. Same can be said for Scrugs when Clifford got the late hit post his pass. Scruggs just held his hands out. No physical defense of his QB.

In watching the replay highlights, plenty of "chirping" by our team directed at the Illinois sideline all game. We tried to act like bullies, Illinois played like bullies.

I left after, I think the 4th OT, in any case I didn't stay to see that. Glad I didn't or I would have been pissed. But I thought this team has been way too mouthy since the start of the season so payback, as they say, is a bitch.

Agreed. If I am the coaching staff, I use that as rocket fuel for tOSU. Doing something "after the game" was too late. Go hit someone, make a block, play better. Success is the best revenge.

That’s part of the problem. No toughness or fortitude…starts with that coach…he does not seem to get mad…about anything or at anyone. Many here would be thrilled if he finally flipped his lid at the high way crookery admistered weekly by Big10 refs. SHOW YOU CARE THAT YOUR TEAM IS BEING HUMILIATED. Maybe it would rub off on some players.

I noticed he has been completely absent from all the threads. Even he isn't dumb enough to come lecture us all on how this team is fine. Others, not so much.
Love the guy. But he must be cooking up some very convoluted defense of the indefensible. Hard to be too hard on our dear friend though. He is simply a product of academia in the USA…zero accountability…we are not falling behind the Chinese by accident!

I think that used to called "Bloody Tuesdays" under a certain coach

There's a difference between random yelling about everything that goes wrong and a motivational kick in the ass. See BB and the ILL team Saturday.
PSU had a 10 - 0 lead at the 10:42 mark of the second quarter and didn't score a single point the rest of regulation.

PSU ....... had ....... a ...... 10 - 0 .....lead ..... at..... the ..... 10:42 ...... mark ..... of ..... the ...... second ..... quarter ..... and ..... didn't ..... score ..... a ..... single ...... point ..... the ..... rest ..... of ..... regulation.

It was poor execution that caused the loss not Bielema calling out his players. CJF could stand on his head and spit nickels and some of you would complain it's not dimes.

Might be a welcome change…something…anything that you show you care…of course, that needs to start on the practice field.

They ran the ball for over 350 yards. That's damn impressive regardless of who is playing. Plus they won the game. They were 2-5. Got shut out by Wisc last week.

Poor execution by PSU helped. But so did the pep talk by BB

Defensively, our guys "chirp" as much as anybody in the country.

I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing. It's not like we're 1980s Miami or anything. No reason to think they're "bad" kids. But they definitely talk a lot of trash. It's been this way for the past few years.

Guys like Dotson go about their business without yapping. Saquon was like that. Lots of others, too. The offense in general, actually. But the defense has a tendency to run their mouth. They better back it up.

You’d hope giving 350 yards to a glorified high school team might humble the chirpers a bit

Let me ask an honest series of questions:

1) If Clifford doesn't get hurt against Iowa, do you think we win that game?

2) If Clifford isn't hurt against Illinois do you think we win that game?

3) If we beat Illinois say 35-10 (with a healthy Clifford) but Illinois still rushes for 300 yards do you think the sky is falling? (FTR we'd be 7-0 and ranked #2)

If the answers are yes, yes and no then basically you are criticizing Franklin for his QB getting hurt and not having a backup ready. The latter is a legitimate criticism but keep in mind PSU lost 3 QB to the portal in the last 3 years. That's tough on any program.

So what it is you are criticizing exactly?

1. Absolutely. They blow Iowa out of the water.

2. I would certainly think so. Game completely changes for ILL with a healthy Clifford.

3. It is still very concerning. Going back to point 2. I don't think ILL could get away with that game plan and would have for run out of the building.

Criticisms:
-No viable backup. He couldn't get one of them to stay? Or one from the portal just to try?
-No package at all for TR to spell an ailing SC? Even just QB runs?
-A complete lack of a physical OL and running game. That alone probably wins both games even if SC doesn't play against ILL.
-In year 8 and the entire season success revolves around 1 person.
-Why not at least try out some young players on the OL and DL? Hoping some get time against MD, but I won't hold my breath.
-2 weeks of prep and the team seemingly had no changes to help Clifford and played completely flat and disinterested.
-Seemingly no accountability for poor play. Perhaps related to lack of viable depth. Or too much loyalty by JF? I don't know this obviously, but since the same guys play every week regardless, the speculation is warranted IMO.

Maybe the OLine and the RB’s need to start chirping.

These are all legitimate points, but I think we agree that if Clifford doesn't get hurt, none of this is really a problem. So I'm not saying everything is perfect (no program is perfect), but I'm saying that no one would be calling for Franklin's head (despite the imperfections) if Sean didn't get hurt.

Just some perspective.

No. Both lines have been soft for the past 8 years. Nothing has changed and nothing will change under Franklin. The team is soft. PERIOD.

He may have enough sense to have put you on "ignore"
Perhaps. But he and I agree on most everything. I am interested in his take on my questions which I think are fair and reasonable and questions for someone with coaching experience like Marshall would provide an interesting perspective.

Ok. Fair enough. But considering the season is in shambles because SC is hurt, I would say it was all a bit of smoke and mirrors.
