Question for our Buckeye friends. What are your thoughts on Joe Paterno?

Good for you because if I ever came across your name as a potential PI for my company I would ensure you never even received a prestudy visit.

Sure! I practice in Dayton, Ohio -- no clinical research, private practice only! And in response to the poster who talked about Schiano, I don't know much about him but if he truly witnessed the assault of a young man I find that devestatingly sad for him and the child.

Unfortunately, our society loves to assign blame. Was any of this Paterno's fault? Absolutely not. There was only one sicko here, Sandusky. But captains go down with their ships. If it makes any of you feel any better, though, I bet Paterno would have willingly let his name be dragged through the mud if he thought it would help the fight against child molestation. I do truly believe he was a great man.

There were no winners in this situation, only losers. I'm sure that you all had to deal with OSU fans being jerks and gloating that this situation occurred, and I apologize for that portion of our fan base. They are small but vocal. I am so sad for Paterno. Our world has too few role models, and he was a great one. But I wouldn't worry too much about his legacy. I'm sure he is happy now.

I am very sorry that I have obviously upset you, to the point where you would threaten my livelihood if you could. I understand that it is frustrating to have fans of other teams on your message boards. I thought it would be ok to post in a thread directed to OSU fans, but obviously not. I have tried to be respectful, although I don't seem to have succeeded.

I will not engage with Penn State fans any more. I do wonder why you seem to believe that Ohio State fans are so terrible yet seem to be completely ok with threatening me. Maybe the problems between our fan bases are not all the fault of the OSU fans.

Good luck this weekend. I hope both teams play well.

Paterno wasn't captain of the Penn State Ship, Spanier was. Considering Sandusky didn't work for PSU/Paterno... shouldn't that captain have been Jack Raykovitz, Sandusky's boss at the second mile?

Feel free to show your proof of that. Otherwise you are just making false accusations. It's ok to admit you are wrong, which you most definitely are. But being wrong never has stopped you in the past, why should it now?

Prove he's wrong.

This should have been part of my last response... hit the button ... I understand all he did to make Penn State what it is and he deserves the respect of a whole generation of Penn State and college football fans. However, just because he did a host of good things in the past doesn't mean that when confronted with something as unspeakable as child abuse in the "house that he built" he couldn't see his reputation being tarnished and he didn't know how or what to do so he chose to take the easy way out.

I never understood, why would turning in his ex-assistant that he never really liked have tarnished his legacy? The man spent his life doing the right thing, this would have just been another instance of that. It's logical that it would have actually bolstered his reputation, whereas a cover-up at best negates the positive press from helping to catch a monster, and at worst gets discovered and ruins his legacy.

And here's the best part: By putting the witness in front of the AD and the administrative head of police, Joe did turn him in.

I agree, I'm speaking strictly about his alleged motivation. Why are people so sure that he was motivated to save the reputation of his program? What is the logic? I think they just repeat what they heard on TV without even thinking about it, even if it makes no sense.

Joe followed protocol exactly as the NCAA advises all coaches to do - period. There is nothing more to add

If I saw a baby on the ground roadside, as long as I called and informed the authorities before I drove off I suppose I met I met my responsibility.

If Paterno had no knowledge of anything beyond a suspicion or a vague rumor, then all he need do is inform his boss. If he knew more or had a stronger suspicion he could have done more. However even in the latter example, it doesn't necessarily make him an evil person or someone ok with child molestation, it could have just been a mistake on his behalf that if he could have a do over, he would act differently.

Joe didn't "see the baby on the ground". What would you do if you were told by someone that they thought they saw what looked like a baby on the ground beside the road...that would be a more accurate statement.

Yeah you wonder, and wasn't the Rashard Casey event going on at the same time? If Joe cared more about his legacy, he surely wouldn't have been a strong supporter of Casey, let alone cover up Sandusky.

Joe had NOTHING to gain by covering up for a guy he could NOT stand nor could the guy stand him....It makes no sense to a common man. Those who have a hate for PSU for numerous reasons, most of which is because their clown boy football team like Rutgers, Pitt, Maryland, etc have taken whoopings from Joe over the years so they attack a man after the media sharks have eaten his flesh.

I know a radio show host here in Michigan personally, he was horrible in the days of all this stuff coming out on the air. I told him I lost all respect with how he handled it, he's a Michigan State alum. His response to me, "i am Long Island kid who did not get accepted into PSU, F that whole school" He thinks he's Mike Francesca. I told him you are pathetic and have never hung out with him again.

Mike Golic was angry on air about the whole thing blaming Joe completely devoid of facts or open mindness. He was not recruited hardly at all by Joe during his playing days he said on air. And Notre Dame/PSU used to be a huge game as we all know as two power independents.

The narrative people want to use that was first reported is for their own sake to make them feel better about why something happened they did not like. Its their way of pay back.

We Penn State people just care enough about the facts of the case and have reviewed them over and over. We all thought "is Santa Claus not real?" if so then screw Joe Paterno he was a fraud to all of us, he fooled us, shamed us. But then facts came out, accusations that made no sense came out. John Ziegler produced hard evidence, Freeh report proved to be a fraud and on and on and on...and yet here we are today with the media still trying to shove this down people's face that Joe covered up for a guy he disliked, a former employee for decades to save the program when Joe could have been a hero turning the guy in. We are supposed to believe from the media a guy who put his whole life's work into his kids, his grandkids, community kids, college kids, educating kids, helping kids, allowed a monster to run rampant around the campus just abusing and raping them and Joe slept like a baby every night? CMON MAN

On a lighter note, we're coming up on 27 hours away from the matchup. Best of luck Lions: Hoping for a good slobberknocker with no injuries on either side.
