Recruiting weekend

Iowa had some recent improvement in recruiting culminating with Spencer Lee but they seem to be falling back again. Looking ahead a few years, they are clearly behind PSU and tOSU and probably OSU as well, although not as pronounced. They really need to win a championship over the next 2 years or the fallout may be significant. To these high schools kids, the Dan Gable era is ancient history and many probably don't even remember their last championship.

Cornell too maybe.

I don't think they are really falling behind. There is a lot of young talent on and committed to Iowa. If you just look at PSU recruits for this year and next and probably for a year or two after that......PSU certainly isn't going to win any recruiting rankings soon because of all the grey shirts and redshirts they have had recently. The stockpile of young talent that hasn't hit the mat yet is why there is little room at the Inn. Iowa is in a bit of a similar situation although they have more young talent currently on the mat.

not sure I understand, since C3 went after him hard and heavy. Would it perhaps have looked better if he was in Blue and White last night?
Describe hard and heavy, and how you know this. We know nothing more or less about how C3 went after him than they did fill in the blank. So, it's interesting that you know how C3 went after him.

With all due respect Roar, in todays society social media personas are an unignorable indication of the person.
It's one data point in a far-more-complicated area of a person's personality/nature. I'm just not for judging others based solely on a social media "persona". If I did, I wouldn't hang around here as much as I do with all the characters and their "forum personas", some of which are really out there ;).

I resemble that remark!!

Don't remember ever seeing a recruit being given the royal treatment during an official visit unless a coaching staff is going after him hard. That budget is limited for recruiting, at least here. Although I must admit, I would let his mom take a selfie with me.

I'm looking forward to the day Seth gets his turn. Another year of packing on muscle, with his size and athleticism, he's gonna be a nightmare for other heavies. Rolling around with big bro, Cassar, and a couple of Olympic Champions won't hurt either.

FLB school district closed today because of FB ( or instagram post, IDFK) stating they would shoot up the school at 8:30 and were looking for helpers.

Holy overreaction, Batman.

There is absolute zero equivalence or comparison between Ferrari celebrating the biggest decision in his life vs. a potential school shooter or school shooting hoaxer. None. Just stop.

Maybe the Goofers have some leftover chill pills.

When kids come on a recruiting trip there is usually a workout involved. A chance to roll around and compete with some of the big dogs, a gage for the kids and a measuring stick for the staff.
A possibility is AJ has a really big competitive heart and the staff really liked the kid and wanted him and the staff is also really comfortable in the knowledge that Seth is going to be a damn good replacement for Anthony.

Just saying how things could be.

I wouldn't expect C3 to recruit some of us, based on our online personas, either. Well, that and our wrestling ability.

pawrestlerintn would have been the first but he was busy with a customer. :D
Yeah, just finished for the day. Otherwise, I'd have jumped right on that. What I can't figure out is he knows my online and offline personalities and he still lets me hang around with him.

Question for those following recruiting. For the post- Spencer years, is Iowa falling behind OSU, TOSU, and PSU in the recruiting arms race?
Fell behind. Past tense. This would make a good business school case for disruption theory.

They started falling behind when other schools started truly competing, instead of really being happy with occasionally placing top 3. (At the time, Smith and Robinson were the only consistent threats.)

Iowa got disrupted by Ryan and Cael, who were not only serious about winning, but also recruited top athletes instead of guys who fit their system.

Brands has adjusted by expanding their footprint and going after more athletic guys -- but the arms race grew. Michigan got serious about the sport. Missouri, NC State, VT, Nebraska, Iowa State, Wisconsin ... all of them recruiting B10 territory that Iowa used to split with J Rob.

Not many in here would make it out of the first period with anybody in the family. A stalling strategy would be your best bet though.

We (Mrs. Roar and I) really like Mrs. pa. Just sayin' :).

At the game today. Cody, Cael, Casey were in the row behind us with a recruit and his Mom. Not sure who it was but the kid was well put together. About Cael’s height

Cael's height and well put together? Now that Amos and Ferrari are gone that's a puzzler.

Could it possibly have been Jesse Vasquez? He would have been noticeably smaller but the only big name left in 2020 @ 157. He would still be an awesome elite get. Unlikely it is him though as he is at WN1 this weekend.

Otherwise I don't know much about the bigger kids in 2021 or what we might do with them. The cupboard is pretty full up top. We would have made an exception for AJ or Amos, but those kind don't come along every year.

The 3 C’s hosting it must be a bigtimer. My guess it’s Alex Facunda.... Michigan stud 174lbs. junior. Many rate best in 2021 class.

If anyone has any question about where we stand, go to the recruiting spreadsheet at the top— that was kindly done. Great info.

Pure guess: Seminary's 220 Jacob Kaminski (2021). I think he's still uncommitted. UWW world medalist.
