Senior Worlds

Elor's semi is against last year's world champ, Japan's Masako Furuichi, who is strong, low-to-the-ground, and won't be hip-tossed as easily. I think Elor has some length though. I don't believe Elor has faced anyone as good as Furuichi in her short career.

Amit Elor continues to be pretty good at wrestling.
She’s pretty incredible. She must be super strong because she gets a control tie and just pushes these girls all over the mat. The Japanese girl looked a bit bigger but Elor just got to her Russian tie or underhook and moved her all over. The Japanese wrestler was very good at just upsetting Elor’s balance a little bit when they got in the zone or when it looked like Elor was about to get to an advantageous position and she didn’t give up anything big like most of Amit’s opponents do. Her finals opponent is very good as well and has been a run dominating everyone lately. Should be fun.

Tamyrah Mensah Stock went straight beast mode! Took out the defending 65kg world champion by tech in the first period. She gets Ishii from Japan in the finals. Ishii has had a few close matches and I definitely think Mensah Stock wins this. When she is on she might be one of the best pound for pound woman in the world and she definitely looks like she is on right now.

Helen is back in the finals again as well! She has teched or pinned her way into the finals where she will have the defending 55kg world champion from Japan Sakurai. Helen is probably the slight favorite and I think she wins. She is wrestling at an extremely high level right now and seems to always show up when it counts. What a great session for the US women and how great would it be to close the woman’s portion of the tournament with 3 golds in a row!

Susaki is so damn good! She pins her finals opponent in about a minute to win gold again. She has to be the best womens wrestler in the world. So impressive

Dom Parrish wins gold!!! 4-2 win with a beautiful double in the first and a counter td in the second. This is her first world title. Really great day by the women. No way we overtake Japan for the team title but I think we closed the gap a little bit. Coming into today the Japanese women had only 1 loss but they took multiple losses today

I was just reading about the Japanese girl that Elor just beat. She is a U17, U20, U23, and a senior level world champion and 18 year old Elor just beat her. When Elor wins tomorrow she will have matched her Japanese opponents credentials

I had a closing and missed the semis but Elor took it right to Furuichi. I doubt Furuichi ever got moved around like that.

The next time someone complains about a FS wrestler not being hit for passivity despite "not taking a shot" show them this match. Elor didn't take a shot, but she controlled center. She didn't even buy time by resetting like you see a lot of wrestlers do, she just suffocated Furuichi wire to wire. Furuichi was able to finally break through late with a nice level change that caught Elor off guard but Elor couldn't be turned (and ref was extremely generous in allowing Furuichi multiple chances to try).

I was just going to post the same thing about Elor. That was an impressive win against Japan. To beat the reigning senior world champion as an 18-year-old is just so impressive. Elor has the potential to wrestle in at least four Olympic cycles as she will only be 32 for the 2036 Olympics (for comparison, Adeline, Helen and Tamyra will be 33, 32 and 31 respectively for the 2024 Olympics). She also potentially has 11 total senior world championships (Non-Olympic years) available to her. This is obviously so far into the future that it is anyone's guess how her career progresses or how long she decides to compete, but the potential to watch her compete for so many more years is great as a wrestling fan.

Elor's opponent tomorrow, Zhamila Bakbergenova (KAZ), lost to Furuichi in last year's final, but only 3-0. She probably won't be a pushover, but I'd have to figure Elor is the favorite.

Mensah Stock faces Ami Ishii (JPN), who nearly got pinned in the quarters. and was down 8-2 before pinning Canada's Linda Morais. Mensah Stock would have to be favored here as well, but Ishii obviously represents danger to Mensah Stock, who takes risks. They've never met, so far as I can see.

Helen Maroulis faces last year's world champ, Tsugumi Sakurai (JPN), who had to come back from a 2-0 deficit with a second-period takedown to win on criteria in the quarters. She's never faced Helen.

Thank you for all the updates !!

I think you have it—except it’s Hayden Zillmer for us at 125kg.

Helen is so slick with her feet. Watch her 4-pt takedown just after the 6:30 mark. At first it looks like an ankle pick but it's actually just a trip, where she plants her right foot just past Erkhembayar left foot and drives her through it.
That was a beautiful move, as is Helen's foot sweep series. One of the aspects of women's wrestling I really enjoy is what I believe to be a greater reliance on technique versus strength. That, combined with the greater flexibility of women, adds up to a lot of great action, especially in the lighter weights. I would also assume the difference in women's musculoskeletal anatomy, especially the placement of their hips in relation to their torso, changes the types of positions they get into and the technique they use compared to male wrestlers. Here are some videos of Helen's foot sweep technique and other highlights to show some of the great technique out there in women's wrestling.

I feel very bad for the Iranian wrestler if his team makes him forfeit, but only if he doesn't harbor the same repugnant beliefs of the leaders of his country who foment such hatred. Hopefully the Iranian wrestler discussed below is an outlier for their wrestlers:

The sad thing is if Finesilver miraculously beat the Iranian, his government would probably put him to death for losing.

You missed one important point. Helen is also pretty competitive in the attractive looks category! 😁
