different, TM stepped up hit Charles for 80 yards TD. PSU comes back to win, but up until that play, who knows. But IMO, that 1 play is what changed the season. Come back to that play, we play, harder, better, the rest of the way, the rest of the season. RT goes down, who cares, put in the backup, new RT goes down, put in the next back up, who cares. Its a lot of fun being on a roll, especially having an OSU pellet on the wall!!

I have to agree. It's like that play gave them a boost of confidence and flipped the switch on the season. They have been like a different team ever since.

to me, they just started walking differently, with lots of confidence.

Honestly, it's totally stunning. Like two completely different seasons so far, pre- and post-Minnesota half time.

Irv has been kind of quiet except for ST's since. Hopefully, that will change. I think he's a matchup headache.

The one guy on the post game radio kept going back to that play. compared it to 4-15 Isaac Smolko catch. said it was as if the team has been playing looser since that catch.

I laughed when he said they guys are on team were like "wow the people in the standsame do like us" or something like that

Its a great point....and that play was key...but the turnaround, IMHO, is TM's willingness to carry the ball on the zone read. Before that, he wasn't doing it, almost ever. That allowed defenses to simply go after Barkley...he was our only offensive weapon other than the long bomb.
After that, they have to cover the entire LOS on running plays. in so doing, cannot simply pin back their ears, have to cover their gaps. And that has led to our line having just a second to pass block giving TM a little more time. That's led to TM feeling more comfortable in the pocket, feeling the rush, finding places to go, delivering the ball (run it or pass it).

Penn State Football Before & After: How Irv Charles Changed Everything

Penn State’s 2016 season changed a few minutes before 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Even though you, me and Irv Charles were barely paying attention at the time.

“I get it,” as Penn State’s head coach likes to say. I get that you’re thinking that the turning point in the Nittany Lions’ 2016 season came against Ohio State.

That Grant Haley’s scoop-and-score against the Buckeyes was the one play that changed everything.

That the win over Ohio State is why Penn State is 7-2 and is ranked 10th in the latest College Football Playoff poll.

That the 24-21 victory over then-second-ranked Buckeyes is why Penn State is being linked to Cotton and Rose and Orange. That why, by beating Indiana on the road Saturday, they’ll have six consecutive victories.

(The only streaks that will have been longer this century came in 2008, with 9 in a row, and in 2011, with 7 in a row.)

And you may be right.

BUT...

But Irvin Charles, the 6-foot-4 and 219-pound redshirt freshman receiver from Sicklerville, N.J. – the man with two first names – might tell you otherwise. ... continue story: http://www.statecollege.com/news/co...r-how-irv-charles-changed-everything,1469923/
