I assume most star players have already been negotiating NIL and salary money for 2025. There are only 4 teams still playing and players are making decisions as we speak. Current players can't afford to wait a few more weeks to begin their negotiations.
NIL math is beyond my comprehension but here's a wild guess.
Allar $2 million
Singleton $1 million
Allen $800k
Wallace $400k
Evans $300k
Reynolds $300k
5 OL $1 million ($200k each)
Starting offense $5.8 million
Sutton $800k
Vanover $200k
Thomas $200k
Durant $500k
Rojas $300k
Deluca $200k
Robinson $100k
Harris $600k
Miller $300k
Washington $300k
Wheatley $300k
Starting Defense $3.8 million
K, H, P, LS $200k
That's pretty close to $10 million just for the starters. Second teamers must get at least $3 million. Not many of the 27 freshmen didn't come for free. The 18 4 star prospects are probably getting $100k each or $1.8 million. Let's say the 9 lower rated players are getting $25k each or $500k.
I'm obviously guessing but we're already up to $15 million. I assume we're still looking for an impact WR and LB that could be another $500k each.
That's why I was surprised to see Allar return and I'd be surprised to see Singleton return. Those guys don't come cheap and somehow we need to free up NIL $$$ to attract key players. Of course I haven't considered salaries paid directly by the university but our competitors get that too. I assume that just drives the total compensation figures up for everybody.
