I have to assume it is a given, along with a couple holding penalties on critical drives.

We've had O'Neill for the last 2 trips to Iowa. Don't remember too many shenanigans in 2017. But in 2019 they stole a TD from us when Pat F.'s lunge across the goal line was ruled a TD on the field, video confirmed the call was correct, yet somehow they reversed it. So who knows what we might get this year if he shows up.

I’d love an explanation from the conference on how that call was reversed. We had seats right on the goal line for that game and couldn’t believe it.

man that was a terrible call

The entire John O’Neill crew was corrupt vs Iowa in 2019 especially the Umpire …Jeff Carr

Let’s recap the officiating….

PSU: 8 penalties for 80 yards
Iowa: 1 penalty for 5 yards

Officials:
Referee: John O'Neill;
Umpire: Jeff Carr;
Linesman: Kris Van Meter
Line judge: D. Gallagher
Back judge: Michael Elliott
Field judge: Gary Power
Side judge: Kyle DeBuse
Center judge: T. Riepenhoff

And here's the bad news. Following is the composition of the John O'Neill crew from this past weekend's game between Michigan @ Wisconsin.

Referee John O'Neill
Umpire Jeff Carr
Linesman Kris Van Meter
Line judge Vincent Winter,
Back judge Michael Elliott
Field judge Gary Powers
Side judge LaShell Nelson
Center judge Thomas Riepenhoff

If the B1G was sincere about wanting to improve the officiating, they would have done so, but they haven't. The Conference is actually complicit in the corruption.

The conference isn't complicit in anything, they are leading the charge and really want Iowa to win out. Then they'll meet one of the two greatest teams ever in the title game. PSU is not in that formula. The question isn't whether the officials will be fair, but how unfair will they be. We've seen it too many times, as have most other B1G teams not with ugly helmets or dumb stickers all over them.

Iowa will get heat so bad in tbe playoffs, it will be embarrassing. They will not score. And they may give up 40+.

But they will not be going. It will be Ohio State - easily the best team in conference and totally protected by refs….a deadly combination.

I’m hoping we don’t even make the trip, since the league and officials have already orchestrated the outcome.

Wait until history repeats itself…your flippant attitude about Big10 officiating will quickly evaporate. If it is close, there will be multiple head-shaking calls…all in one direction. Been going on since 1993 and accelerated in 2011. Where have you been?

The ugly helmets have dumb stickers all over them now too

Explain the 2019 Pat F. stolen touchdown at Iowa in a way that doesn't involve corruption. Incompetence, even gross incompetence, can't explain it. Ruled a TD on the field. Video evidence confirms the call on the field is correct. Yet, they reverse the call, meaning they claim to have seen incontrovertible video evidence that it WAS NOT a TD. Corruption is the only possible explanation. They wanted to screw Penn State and they didn't care who knew.

EDIT: just went back and re-watched the play. Not only did they steal the TD away, they marked the ball at the half yard line. Again, I'd be curious for an explanation other than corruption that could explain that.

And to ensure PSU didn’t score a TD the Umpire called offensive holding on 2-3 consecutive plays thereafter. They didn’t even try to mask their corruption.

Thought it was a terrible overturn…I disagree that video “confirmed” the call, but it seemed clear to me that it was one of those calls that had to stick with the call on the field since they didn’t have the right camera angle.

The logical answer is that they made a bad call…not that the Referee, Umpire, Replay Official, and whoever else you think is involved in a conspiracy that would lead to firings, potential lawsuits/criminal proceedings, etc.

Well of course you would disagree that video confirmed the call. That's your shtick on here, playing the contrarian to show how much above us rubes you are. There was a perfect angle from the pylon cam. Right down the goal line. The ball was well beyond the plane of the goal before Friermuth's knee touched. Not the slightest bit in doubt. Well, I guess it was to you and the ref and the cadre of geniuses working the replay booth. Good company you're in.

Don't take my word for it. Go to 1:18:30 and watch for yourself.

Watching it again, it's exactly how I remembered it...terrible overturn. Pylon cam blocks exactly when his knee touched since an Iowa player's foot is between the ground. It was a bad call to actually overturn it, but I could have certainly seen them letting it stand had it been ruled short.

Rewatched the sequence...Pat's play was 1st down...we ran it for no gain on 2nd down. 3rd down was in incomplete pass, but the Umpire called a hold which Ferentz accepted. 3rd and 11, and Sean ran it in, but the Centre Judge called a hold (which was pretty obvious). Clifford had a short gain on 3rd from the 21, and we settled for the FG.

Unless his knee had a 6 inch lump sticking out the side, the ball is over the line before his knee touched. Thanks for confirming.

Been rewatching this game since it was posted in the thread.

Hard to believe we were still rotating 4 backs in this game. Minimally, why wasn't Slade at least yanked?

Brown got going on the one possession early in the 3rd quarter and as soon as he gets a first down, we run tempo BUT SUBSTITUTE SLADE IN.

Rahne offense maybe?

This team run blocked a lot better than they pass blocked. Truly didn't seem to have a game plan offensively.

Refs have not been influential yet (Im not to the Pat TD yet), but they hit us with a defensive holding on a play our DL sacked the QB in like 2 seconds. Blackledge is even questioning it.

Later they call a hold on Walker vs AJ. No yank, just hand on the jersey aka every OL vs DL play in football. Set us up 1st and 20 and we punted.

This defense was not pretty in pass coverage. Not terrible at stopping the run, but I'm going to say I like the current iteration Better than this version right now.

Goodson had the angle route thrown early in this game. We had 2 men and a ref on it.

Does Petras do the Stanley lob?

Where has this Noah Cain been this season?

Where has this Noah Cain been this season?

Rewatching this game film, the big thing I see is that he's gained weight and doesn't appear any stronger. Injuries have probably slowed him up, but he's a step slower and indecisive. Very obvious.

Running scheme change from inside to outside zone appears to have an effect too.

Looking forward to the announcement of the officiating crew.

I just think the refs are out to get us. I'm just a crazy Penn State fan.

I really should get help. Ever team has bad calls.

It's my imagination.

p.s. OSU tight Ends are also allowed to catch passes that bounce off the ground (saw it in 2003) and Michigan OLs are allowed to tackle Courtney Brown and Lavar Arrington as needed.

Silly me.

Just because we are paranoid, doesn’t mean they are not out to get us!

Would be nice if Jerry McGinn's crew is assigned to this game. His crew is one of the best in IMO and I like that he's from the Philly area. However, I think we end up with O'neill. We're due.

Here's a pretty good interview with McGinn and how his crew operates between assignments and during a game. Its really fascinating.
