So NOW what the He** does PSU do at 197!?!?

Cael's gonna earn his $$$ on this one. What a tough call to make with National Championship implications not only for this year but the next couple of years. I don't envy him having to make this decision. Two worthy gladiators...

I thought Rasheed would get the nod due to his bonus point capability but after what Cassar did last night... sure am glad its not me making this decision

Off topic but I sure wish the NCAA would finally add a 210 or 220lb weight class.. seems ridiculous to jump 88 lbs from 197 to 285

I guess it depends on how dinged up Shakur is. He does seems to get have a history of getting hurt so that isn't a good recipe for the post season.

Hats off to Cassar. My money was on Rasheed until last night.

But don't forget, in that room, Cael wrestles both of them every day. He probably has a better feel for each of their capabilities than anyone.

Kudos to Tom for putting the brakes on the premature chatter about Rasheed having the starting nod locked up. I'll plead guilty on this one.

I'll be happy with any decision Cael makes. Just hope Sheed can get healthy.

Saw this on the ohiowrestling forum, which has some pretty knowledgeable posters. Moore is a lefty and is accustomed to wrestling against right-handed guys. However, Cassar is also a lefty and thus negated much of what Moore likes to do from neutral. In other words, Cassar may have been a tougher matchup for Moore than Rasheed. Don't know how valid this is, but found it interesting.

The tOSU guys also said that the PSU staff had Cassar well prepared to slow down Moore's offense, which I can completely believe.

Moore did a pretty good job of it himself.

For that matter, so did many of the Ohio State guys. So maybe that was Tan Tom's strategy.

I hope Sheed gets the nod against Iowa...gets the win and then a true final wrestle off should decide it.

The best college wrestler at 197 entering last night was Moore. Other guys are almost as good (Haught, etc) but none have his offense.

Cassar just beat him. And he beat him decisively. That was no fluke.

We've got plenty of bonus points on this team. Zain, Nolf (assuming he's back...), Bo, Joseph, and Wreck Hall. Cassar can get bonus points too, and he's just proven he may be the best 197 LB wrestler in the country himself.

I don't pretend to know what the right choice is, but dang, man. ..... I sure didn't think Cassar was gonna win .... dadgum

I like Caesar's size and strength against Moore but I think Shak has the potential to get more points at NCAA's. I'm glad it's not my decision.

So what will the rankings at 197 look like? How far does Moore fall and will they put Cassar ahead of him?

I really feel for the two of them. I am afraid the one that does not get the nod may be off to another school. Two class act guys.

I do believe that decision was made last night at rec hall. He beat the #1 guy in the country.
This one is far from over. Both guys have represented the team well this year.

Interested in what Coach's comments will be tomorrow evening...guessing Jeff will
ask the question early in the show.

Does he drop at all? He pinned Haught (who also lost to Miklus). Beat Wilcke. Weigel only has 8 matches and lost to Miklus. Miklus lost to Darmstadt, Warner and one other. Darmstadt lost to Mattiace who lost to Cassar, Wilcke, etc, etc.

I don't see Moore dropping at all. Overall he still has the best resume. Maybe Darmstadt? Beat Miklus and Rasheed, but no other decent wins and Moore's loss is to a higher ranked guy. Cassar?....but we don't even know he is the starter....and he lost to two guys not even up at the top.

THAT is a much easier problem determining rankings, as opposed to Cael deciding on Cassar or Rasheed. :)

If 100% healthy, Rasheed will be the starter. The recent wrestle off was a lot worse of a score than what Pyles tweeted.

That's insane (not doubting your word), given what Cassar did last night. It would be a shame if one of them left. Given their injury histories, we'll probably need them both again.

If they both stay, there is no guarantee that this year's starter is the starter next year. If Cassar could get a 6th year, he could possibly stay?

Gotta think that possibility is a (the?) factor behind Beard grayshirting.

I swear to God people on this board are bi-polar. Allegiances swing wildly day by day between Cassar and Rasheed. Wish Cutch was healthy so we could go full on tri-polar and really get into it ...

I can't believe I'm typing this after what he did last night, but, if both are healthy, I would go with Rasheed. I will never question Cael again though, so, I'm good with his decision.

So, the rumors are (1) Rasheed beat Cassar 7-4 in recent wrestle-offs and (2) Rasheed tweeked something in practice or during the wrestle-offs and (3) that is likely why Cassar got the go-ahead for Ohio State. Anyone know if any or all of these claims can be substantiated?

I don't think that Cassar needs a 6th year. He is listed as a sophomore and I'm pretty sure that he has 2 more years of eligibility after this year. One of his injured years he didn't enroll in school as I understand it.

Problem is, not enrolling doesn't stop the clock, without it being for one of the exceptions listed in the rules.

Not enrolling right after HS for a year is allowed, and is called Delayed Enrollment. Not what Cassar did.

I did wonder about that, but thought somehow he had been an exception. Thanks, Roar!

Be interesting to see what happens as I believer Cassar and Shak could both get a 6th year. Probably Kuhn too.

Last year Rasheed's loss could be considered season-ending (although pulling Hall's RS made it a moot question). But I thought his FR year his season was over, not because of injury, but because he couldn't really wrestle effectively at 165 due to huge weight pull.

Tom, you're right. Pretty sure he did get injured his frosh season but he did wrestle matches in January that year which I know the NCAA has used as the cutoff before. Specifically for Aaron Anspach.

Wow. Very tough call. Guess that's why they pay Cael the big bucks!

WE ARE!!!
Just a thought. Wrestle Cassar for the Iowa dual and Rasheed for the Big Tens. If he beats Moore at the big tens, he won the wrestle off and deserves to wrestle nationals. If he doesn’t win, Cassar has a win over #1 for seeding purposes.
