Southern Scuffle - Jan 4 & 5

Does anybody actually think it would hurt the team if they attended CKLV or went back to the Scuffle? Having a team this good and competing in so few events would be like buying a Ferrari and only driving it a couple times a year.
Love the irony in this metaphor. You can only drive it a couple times a year when you go out and total the thing!!

Watching Ryder’s match, I think he’ll go down to 174 at some point. He looked a good but smaller than his opponent.

Not the first time I’ve doubted Ryder, and he’s proven me wrong each time, but I just can’t believe that he is a 184-pounder. Not even sure he’s an elite Folkstyler. Dude is tough as nails, but I hope there’s an NIL campaign to get Barr or Mirasola down to 184 next year.

I' had the same reaction, but then I remembered why most everyone - including 3xers, 4xers & 5xers - are better served with a RS. Zach's got a lot of work to do to become what he can be. We'll see where he is at the end of the summer. Definitely needs to develop more attacks, you can see he's trying to string things together off of that underhook, but he's just not there yet. Also has a ways to go on top. Of course, this is from a perspective of winning a NC.

On another note, you can see Connor is definitely working on some new things that we have not seen before. Excited to see how good he can get before he transfers.

I guess it depends how you define elite. National qualifier? no doubt about it. All-American? Probably a good shot. But is he the level of his freestyle credentials? I don’t think so, but obviously still TBD. Maybe I’ll change my mind after his 2-1 TB match with Kane, but I doubt it.
Lol, I just had the same though but did not post it above. That Kane match is headed for 1-1 unless Zach catches him in the first period with a snatch off the underhook.

Been discussed (or at least mentioned) several times in this forum already, but agree that 174 looks to be Ryder's optimal weight class. He wrestled at 79 kg (174 lb) in the U20 World Championships only a few months ago (Sep 2024). Plus, Ryder isn't that tall and is already pretty well filled out.

I'm not sure why Ryder isn't at 174 right now, unless it's to better spread depth across the weight classes. If Ryder was at 174, not sure who the backup at 184 would be?
