Spencer Lee

I thought I read there is a 2024 out.
I read that somewhere but don't necessarily trust it as accurate. Press release definitely says 5-year contract. Guaranteed to be in IC thru 2024. It's now 2023.

Math and terms seem a bit fuzzy. Based on the press release, someone likely extrapolated terms include that option, although it likely has not been publicly released. Regardless, I've seen no statement on who holds what option(s), assuming there is at least one.

Link to a credible source would be appreciated. Absent that, I'll take it as rumor.

I would think after not making the team as the number 1 in 2024, Spencer would at least like the opportunity to see if there was room at the NLWC inn for a 2028 run.

I wouln't disagree, except Spencer himself is publicly on record as saying he'll remain in IC for a long time. Two years doesn't seem to me to be a long time. Then again, the young man may've been wisely avoiding the potential of unnecessary conflict/additional stress.

In any event, he has the right, and dare I say responsibility, to pursue his dreams in the way he believes will bring him maximum happiness. Best life lived. No regrets.

Spending a long time in Iowa City probably seems like a good idea, right now.
Thomas used to think Iowa City was his home, Kyles S and D called Columbus and Ithaca home before migrating to State College.

If I was someone who had a rooting interest in Hawkeye wrestling as well as some influence I would want Spencer to spend 3 or 4 years around Cael and his program before I made Spencer my coach. As of right now my belief is because of his more diverse experience with training environments Thomas Gilman would be a better head coaching choice for the Hawks to replace Brands than a pure Black and Gold future Spencer.

Spencer in the 2023 NCAA semis against Matt Ramos and Terry Brands in the 1996 trials against Kendall Cross. Were they both hit with pretty much the same move?

Count me as doubtful that he lasts 5 years, especially when he makes decisions like wrestling the US Open when he clearly is hobbled big time still. I do wish him the best though but it seems he still isn't totally understanding the process of recovery. Pretty obvious the plan is for him to take over as HC after Brands current contract is expired so I bet one of Telford or Morningstar leaves the staff (maybe reassigned to HWC or elsewhere) in the coming years. That being said, probably not the best move since Morningstar is their documented best recruiter and Bobby Telford is a good developer (case in point with Cassioppi) Instead they're just adding a third lightweight guy to the lineup that who knows will be able to drill with the team. I'm sure Spencer would be a good recruiter though overall ... he has the star power which is important but not sure about his personality tbh.

If you don't think two years is a long time. try spending two years in the Iowa room.

Much ado about nothing. Its logical. Spencer will be free to compete intentionally was he so chooses or not, and will remain in Iowa City until he takes over for the Brands.

To be fair to Ithaca, partly because I’m here too…Kyle knew Rob was leaving.

The obsession continues even after he graduates.

Just a question. What is your opinion of Bob Nicols? He is a big donor to your program. However he has launched numerous attacks against Cael with no proof. And now you guys are naming your room after him. All good with you?
