Sports Illustrated cover

It would be gag inducing if you wrote in and said she was your wife and you only found out now that she's a he!!!!
If that was the case, then I'm sure she's post-op. If you had already fallen in love with her and are happy, who cares?

I must have missed a couple of posts here. Which one you people married a guy and when did he gag?

I don't know what the people in this thread are thinking in their heads. I'm just saying that for some people, sports is a refuge to get away from things like politics. Politics is tribal and when you bring politics into sports it divides people and some people like sports because it's not divisive. It used to be that people that disagreed could still come together and commiserate over sports and in fact, I remember and episode of All In The Family where talking about the Mets brought Archie and Meathead together for a little while. But now, politics is everywhere and everything is divisive and it's bad IMO.
Sports not divisive??

F*** Ohio State!
Bring back the fullback!
Fiur Franklin!
LawnBoyz necklace is stupid!

Sports are tribal in the sense that one tribe is Penn State and another tribe is Ohio State and for that matter sporting events, especially football, is like war. But in the broader sense, no, sports are not divisive. It (a) gives you something in common with someone if you're both the fan of the same team, even if you otherwise might not have anything in common and (b) other than game days or the occassional a-hole or drunk fan, you can even have good natured fun with fans of opposing teams.

And just being a football fan gives you something in common with fans of teams your team doesn't even play. If you were at a social event and you found out the guy you were talking to was a Texas fan (just to pick a school at random), you'd could have a good talk about college football and your two favorite teams. OTOH, if you are one side of the political fence and you found out at the social event that the guy you were talking to was on the other side, you would not have a good time talking about politics, especially nowadays.

Which cover? This one?

I hope this won’t negatively effect her mental health…

And after your curiosity on the point was satisfied, you presumed to make a condescending remark about other people's politics being the reason for their views on the magazine cover...as if your own politics weren't the reason for yours.

Therefore, when you urged people to be honest with themselves, I suggested that perhaps you should do the same.
I'll be totally honest if I dislike something because it conflicts with my specific political views. I won't blame it on general politics interfering with my sports. Of course if it's a silly magazine cover, I probably won't really give a shit.

In fact, "politics" is not really the right word in the first place. "Values" would be more accurate. These days, politics is downstream from values. Since there are deep divisions in our society and culture on the question of values, seemingly everything has become politicized, to include SI magazine covers.

Values govern whether you find the cover disturbing and grotesque...or a refreshing expression of sexual liberation...or silly and not worth giving a shit about. My point was that all sides of the question...not just one...should be honest about that.

Well, to show you how old I am, I paid $125 for my life membership. I called in 2012 and withdrew my membership. With regard to the Penn Stater, I found the only section I perused was the obits. The rest of the magazine was basically useless.
Funny
I tried , but you can’t revoke a life membership. You can cancel the penn stater, but the won’t let you impact the list of members. I tried back 8-10 years ago , and roger williams wouldn’t let me.
“ you can check out any time you want, but you can never leave”

I gave up on reading popular magazines and watching most news after the treatment of PSU in late 2011. I came to realize it’s not as much about reporting but rather about some nexus between advertising revenue and algos measuring clicks and ratings. Like the old song about cynical news reporting by one of the Eagles, is the head dead yet? They are always ready to move on to the next real or imaginary crisis. Till the next one. So one final comment, when I looked at the picture of the cover I have no idea who that woman is, what sport she played or why she’s worthy of a cover? I likely will end my day, week , month, year and life still not knowing.

Hint - the "woman"'s sport is pocket pool and she brings her own equipment to the game.
