3. Penn State Nittany Lions
Three years after regaining their full allotment of scholarships after sanctions, the Nittany Lions will be deeper and better.
Sounds good Judge...long road ahead

IIRC yes. There was some hype for the '09 team (but not Top 3-level hype).Theoretically, when was the last time we had such lofty preseason rankings? 1999?
YES, Zeno that's coming on my next visit. I usually tell the doctor to enter gently then start to pick up the in-out speed as the exam progresses.

WHAT??? That means OSU and Michigan must be 1 and 2!!!
Agree. Though they should get a very quick reality check when they face the Florida Gators on Sept. 2 (in Arlington, TX).Michigan with 5 starters returning being ranked #10 in the poll, for example, is crazy. The amount of underserved hype that team gets is really unprecedented. Same record as us over the past 5 years. No Big Ten titles since 2004. They've lost 12 of the last 13 to Ohio State. They shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Ohio State.
I attribute this preseason ranking to the efforts of James Franklin, not Joe Paterno.Thank you Joe Paterno!

I believe joebatters was refering to JoePa's quote.... Its a reality check.I attribute this preseason ranking to the efforts of James Franklin, not Joe Paterno.

This works. You want some flexibility. Being in the top five helps a lot with perception. Will see how things shake out when the playoff poll hits during the season.
I see Michigan going 9-4 and out of top 25 this season

Inappropriate and in poor taste ... you are better than that.If that's what you got from that post there is nothing anyone can do to help you.
God have mercy on your soul.
You get 6-9 months of a recruiting bounce out of it. All of your 2018, 2019 recruits see you as a Top 5 program. Perception = reality for these kids. That fact may not be ideal, but we've seen it work against us in the past. I'll take whatever positive PR we can get from the media, we're f*cking due.
Okay, now I see ... had he posted his reply in direct response to the post he was referring to (with a grayed out box in his response), it would have been easier understood by someone like me with limited comprehension abilities. I assumed he was responding to the original post and in effect, thanking JP for laying the groundwork for the success of the 2017 team ... I took it as a slight to CJF.I believe joebatters was refering to JoePa's quote.... Its a reality check.
IMO this season will come down to:
9-3 or worse would be a disappointment.
- Injuries
- LB play (Cabinda, Bowen, ?)
- DE play (Brown?, Simmons?)
10-2 is expected (including wins over Pitt & Michigan at home)
11-1 would exceed expectations and set us up for a playoff spot

Oh, heck no PSUFB, if there is anyone on this board that isn’t excited about Penn State’s upcoming season, James, JoeMO, and the rest then maybe there is a Viagra equivalent to get them on track. I can’t wait for the Blue-white game.Okay, now I see ... had he posted his reply in direct response to the post he was referring to (with a grayed out box in his response), it would have been easier understood by someone like me with limited comprehension abilities. Oh God, my favorite tune. It's so funny, Woody, made me laugh-cry.Better still:
"THEY'VE DONE ENOUGH."At 9-4, delany will push them into the playoff.
I think 10-2 would be a minor disappointment. 11-1 is expected. 12-0 would slightly exceed expectations. We've raised the expectation bar. Conference championship and playoff is the goal this year.
