Super Bowl LIV Game Thread

I think you’re way off here. I think “Bobby” from the NFL handed out the hats a few hours before gametime, he put it on his head and gave zero fvcks what it looked like. He gives zero Fs for stuff that doesn’t matter. Dude’s a deep thinker.
He’s worn the same flat brill hat at least throughout the playoffs if not the whole year, and yes I think it makes him look like an 18 yo skater boi instead of an NFL head coach.

You are so out of touch. Eagles fans, almost universally, wanted Andy Reid in to win.

Ever hear of EDP445? I also never said that a majority of Eagles fans didn't want him to win, but there is a component that didn't and that is all my post is about. Don't call me "out of touch".

So Shanahan’s offenses, in two Super Bowls, have been outscored 46-0 in the fourth quarter and O.T. Guess he needs to understand it’s a 4 quarter game, plus Matt Ryan and Jimmy Garrapolo are not Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes. The QB play in a Super Bowl is huge.

I was unaware, I stand corrected. At least it was pointed the “correct” direction.

Yeah and there is a component of every fan base that wanted him to lose for whatever reason - I think we know where you were coming from.

Why did jag off Shanahan call those two timeouts? Good lord.

Taught by dantonio?

What that POS Dantonio did to this day remains unforgivable and unforgettable

Putting an O lineman in to score a TD up like by 50 points

To be clear, I was referencing dantonio calling unnecessary timeouts as Penn State ran out the clock in the 2008 game that clinched the b1g championship. It was Penn State's moment, and the timeouts did nothing for michigan state.

Me too. It was ridiculous, unnecessary and we froze our asses off because of it.

I was going to add the point about the weather. My wife and I were at that game. Freezing cold. We were in the north upper deck, so we had the wind to boot. Fortunately, we had a good supply of heat packs. Snow flurries before kickoff as the Lion rallied the crowd at midfield were fun. Most importantly, it was a thorough ASS. BEATING. to end a great regular season.

Four turning points:
  • 49ers not calling time out when KC had to punt with ~ 2:00 to go in the first half
  • Kelce's O PI
  • Garoppolo missing a wide open WR on 3rd and 10 down by 4
  • Garoppolo INT with time running out, leading to KC final TD

Agree particularly with point #1. No idea why they would not call time out there. As to point #4, I believe it was a turnover on downs that led to KC's final TD. The INT ended the game as the Chiefs ran out the clock.

1) Strongly disagree with point 1. If they would have called a TO before the punt, they would have gotten the ball the 20 with two time outs with about 1:20 on the clock. Their offense could really only be expected to put up 3....If they go 3 and out, KC gets the ball back. KC could have easily put up a fg, if not a TD with their playmakers. KC is built for quick scores, SF, not so much. Going in tied and getting the ball to start is a good thing. And frankly, the strategy worked, they had the ball with 10 minutes left and a 10 point lead, all they had to do was pound the rock like they have done all season...That's where they failed.
2) It was OPI, that being said, it is probably only called about 2 times out of ten. I said the same thing when they didn't call the same type of push off against Kyle Rudolph against the Saints in the playoffs.
3. Hated throwing deep on the 3rd and 10, if you complete it, Mahomes gets a 1:30 to come back, and they had just scored on their previous two drives....
4. Niners biggest mistake was on their last two drives when they had the lead, they abandoned the run, especially when up 3. They had 2 and 5....Even if you run for a 2 yard gain, you are 3rd and 3 and the whole playbook is open....
5. All of that being said, If they stop 3rd and 15 pass to Hill where he could have probably called a fair catch, game was probably over.

Does anyone else think Mahome’s girl is just the ok?

More like freshman backup QB at Texas Tech talent rather than Super Bowl MVP. However, it appears they have a real relationship and she is not just some trophy. Having a good supportive lady by his side will do more for him long term than anything else.

Sorry, but your #1 is a loser mentality. What a message that sends to the players: "we're not going to call timeout because I have no confidence that the offense can move the ball AND I also have no confidence that the defense will be able to stop them from driving the length of the field with no timeouts, even though our defense has only given up 10 points." With a mindset like that, is it any wonder Shanahan's offenses have completely wet the bed in the 4th quarter in 2 Super Bowls?

Agree that this was the games most perplexing sequence. After they gained a few yards he was then ready to step on the gas which made no sense, and didn’t leave them enough time. I know many criticized BOB’s fake punt but you gotta so that against KC. You must be aggressive on offense to keep the ball away from Mahomes and score some points! You aren’t beating KC with less than 20 on the scoreboard.

Yep. Playing scared seldom gets you a win on a big stage like that.

It's called playing to your strengths, and denying your opponent its strengths. It worked, until the Niners went away from the formula, and tried to pass instead of running...

It didn't work. They limped into halftime instead of possibly instead of going in with a score knowing you get the ball to start the 2nd half. They played not to lose. And as so often happens, they did the exact thing they were trying to avoid.

Happy for Andy Reid. Wanted Chiefs to win all game, but seeing Robbie Gould out there for kickoffs, FGS, and XPs had me with mixed feelings. He deserves one too.

I hate some Eagles fans who were cheering against Andy. I mean, come on... In the end Eagles got a Super Bowl a few years after and now Andy has one too. Why the hate?
Every Eagles fan I know (which is a lot, myself included) was happy to see Andy win it
