Yeah, Hawk wrestlers don't seem to add to their repertoire during their career, they just double down on what they call 'tough wrestling'.
It would be interesting to see how many Hawkeyes had their highest NCAA finish in their senior year vs how many of them peaked/plateaued their Soph or Jr year. Certainly, last year's Sr class didn't go out on top.
Brands' had 3 seniors go out as national Champs the 1st few years after becoming the coach (Perry, Metcalf, and Borschel), but since 2010 he has had only 2 (Ramos and Clark).
Marinelli peaked this year at 5th.

It needs to be pointed out: Lee was a college AD, and since then has had at least 2 VP level jobs where the AD reported to him.
He's likely taken at least 15-20 years of ethics training, and mandated it to his organizations -- the type of training intended to prevent such lapses.
And yes, he's human as we all are. We're not all VPs. Executives are accountable for lapses by their lowest-level staff. They should be held to a higher standard for their own decisions.
He knows the rules, and appears to have disregarded the rules and his training.
All that and yet somehow he didn't know not to talk to Mineo.
And especially talked to Mineo by text, so there's a record of it.
Alright - I need you guys to work with me here. Now the rumor is that Larry called O’Conner’s parents to commiserate with them about knee injuries and offer his support (and not about the portal or recruiting goddammit!). I think he was pursuing an analogous variant of a strategy described in zoology as the “Sneaky ****er Strategy” (no joke). This is a sexual selection strategy which argues that “A lower-cost alternative mating strategy, useful to bachelors without a harem, is kleptogyny or the "sneaky ****er strategy", sneaking in to mate while the harem owner is distracted: in the case of red deer, when the harem stag is involved in a fight with another older stag.”
Anyway, the classic example in humankind is the “helpful” guy who commiserates with the hot chick who just got dumped - hoping to slide on in due to being such a “nice guy”.
In this pre-portal poaching context, I see Larry using the shared knee injury angle as a pretext to getting what he really wants - that is, filling a gaping hole in the Hawk lineup.
To judge his sincerity, I would like to know if he also called the parents of other young men who suffered knee injuries - BUT AT weights where the Hawks are set. Something to ponder 🤔
Personally, I never overthink things when I plan on being a slimeball like Larry Lee was here. If Larry did use the tactic you describe here, he’s certainly a bigger slime ball than I am. Lol
This reminds me. Did anyone ever see the documentary about monkeys where this occurred? I've tried to find it on the web without success. But it was showing the mating rituals of a troop of monkeys. The alpha was the only one permitted to mate with the females. There was one lesser monkey going to town with a female and every 15 seconds poking his head up above the brush to look for the alpha. He looked so human it was hilarious. Then of course he was spotted by the alpha who proceeded to beat the crap out of him. Did anyone else remember seeing this? Funniest damn thing and have been dying to make a gif out of it ever since.
You know damn well Larry was simply using his time as a highly paid Coe College administrator to recruit for his employer, nothing slimy about that at all. I am damn sure Coe College would love to have the O'Connor kid as a student-athlete.

If I remember correctly, honesty and integrity are two of the four characteristics he looks for of any partner.
That’s why I didn’t answer the 27 missed calls (no exaggeration)… I wanted to text and he kept saying “why won’t you talk to me” and I said, “well I am… why won’t you answer the question here?” Lol. Not gonna let someone who did pre-plan calling twist words on the phone when I know what happened and can control that convo via text. In end , he broke. His main concern after all of this? “Who put you on me?! Tell me who now? Who?”
Caring more about the source of so-called “false information” than anything else.

For all of HR’s continual infatuation with and defamation of Jimmy G, it’s ironic that he and AM had equal highest NCAA placements.
Makes you wonder how high or low he would have placed if he had wrestled up a weight for his last 2 years. We know at best he loses in the QFs, but at 174 Marinelli isn't placing any higher than Jimmy did at 141.
this is irrevalent but did anyone watch flo last week when they were talking about the guy that grabbed the other one by the groin and pulled and they said how wrong that was.Well my coach in high school first thing he says is when on top grab the family jewels and squeeze! any thoughts??
that's what give the sport a bad name.... tell the coach to learn some proper technique or retire
