The First Rule of B1G Bowl Season!

Root for who you want, what brings you pleasure.

Strength of schedule is a poor argument though. When the Big was weak a few years ago, tOSU still got in. Washington played a poor schedule and got in. Face it, IA football rankings are as fair as those for figure skating.
It's not about who gets in at this point obviously, it's about perception and recruiting. If OSU wins, the talking heads and the committee are going to be convinced they got it right regardless of what we do in our game. If OSU gets boat raced and we win, maybe they will think we should have been in there (much like MSU getting stomped last year...that didn't hurt the Big as much as it helped OSU this year...many said they didn't want to see PSU get in because the best team from the Big wouldn't be getting in like last year). Also, we recruit directly against OSU, a NC for them is going to hurt us.

I'm with you Guns. It means rooting for Pitt against Northwestern in the Pinstripe, but it is the lesser of two evils.
This is a tough one. Remember Fair, we do have to live here. I'm on the fence, and Buffalo makes some very good points re: Pitt. Let's not forget the Joe Knew t-shirts. Damn, I'm talking myself into rooting for NW.

Pitt's actions did not help us, but took nothing from us. The BigTen not only did not help us, but did take that which we had earned.
As I said in my initial post, this is about the lesser of two evils.

Are you kidding? We weren't good enough for Pitt and their 2 Amigos. The B1G gave us a Home.

Headline: Friday, November 20, 1981:

DECISION BY PITTSBURGH KILLS EASTERN LEAGUE

I wanted that Eastern Sports Conference like crazy in 1981. Joe even had us hooked up with an automatic bid to the Fiesta Bowl for the Champion. It would have done wonders for not only us, but Eastern Football as a whole.

Joe was even willing to Revenue share with the other non-Pitt/Penn State members to help them get their Programs off the ground if Pitt joined him. We and Pitt were the big dogs back then and the only two Programs making a profit. Pitt dragged us along all year, and then, at the last minute, kicked us (and the other potential members) right in the balls.

You hate the B1G so much? All you have to do is look towards Oakland to direct your blame.

You are talking now about the same Jim Delany who made Penn State wait 3 years to play in the conference, took Joe's name off a trophy, never paid us back our money, and just a few weeks ago, politicked against the champion of his own conference, to be in the playoff?

That Jim Delany? Just checking.

You're blaming Delany for that???? Look in the mirror man!

If your parents tell me you're a pervert, am I to tell them they are wrong? Our own BOT and Administration basically told the entire World, and I don't mean JUST the Sports World, I mean the WHOLE World, that you, me, and everyone else that roots for or went to Penn State are nothing but a bunch of perverts and child molesters.

My own Mom wouldn't even let me wear my Penn State gear that first Christmas because she thought it would cause major physical confrontations. Really pi$$ed me off. Delany had absolutely nothing to do with that.

Delany is an absolute Saint compared to the scum that formed this narrative out of Old Main and Harrisburg. His work behind the scenes, against actors and parties that absolutely despised us, probably got the sanctions lifted a year early.

So do I hate Delany? No. I hate the creeps and the scum that forced Delany to make the initial moves he had to make.

Yes, they gave us a home, and from the day we moved in they treated us like squatters and when the NCAA Sheriff came knocking at the door, they gave him a bunch of our furnishings. I said earlier this was about the lesser of two evils. Pitt denied us something. They did not take something from us. The BigTen took what was rightfully ours and only gave it back under pressure.

In all honesty, I pull for Northwestern in all of their contests except when they play Penn State. Fitzgerald is a class act and a very good coach and that is a school that does it right. I will have no problem wearing my purple shirt next week when they play sPitt.

I have kind of mellowed about the other conference brethren with the notable exception of the scUM and the tO$U. These beneficiaries of all advantage known to mankind in conference matchups reside in the bowels of Dibbs disdain, right beside the sPitters.

The SOS argument only holds water in how the conference is viewed at the beginning of next season. Simply look to see how many $EC teams will populate the initial 2017 rankings and I will predict no fewer that 8 of the 25 will be members of that juggernaut conference.

Root for sPitt? Oh dear Lord!

One problem. Our own people at Old Main told them it WASN'T "rightfully ours".

We take pride in winning the championship of the "best" conference in college football and now you want us to root against every B1G bowl team. It doesn't make sense.

Sure, I have problems with some Pitt fans, but no Pitt fans were more vile than those from our own conference, like Rutgers and Iowa. The BigTen Conference, and its member schools, failed to defend us and then actually took away bowl money we had earned. They took Joe's name off their damn trophy. There is no way I will ever root for another BigTen team in any sport against any other opponent. F em' all.

We're talking about two different things here. We did win the best division in the best conference and we can take pride in that, but gaining that designation got us nothing. A team that did not win the conference, and we beat, got a seat at the adult table. We got to eat with the kids. None of this matters, of course. The games will play out and nothing we say, or do, here will means anything. I simply will rejoice every time any other BigTen team loses this bowl season. The bigger the loss, the happier I will be.

This thread is driving up my blood pressure and I am withdrawing from it. All you BigTen fans can sit around for the next few weeks and cheer for a Conference that failed to defend us, plundered our treasure, and still treats us like second class citizens. Jim Delany will thank you.

As you know, I'm no Big Ten fan and am on the fence on this only because it is Northwestern. And also, I can't separate the Pittsburgh media from Pitt. And the media here stabs us at every single opportunity.

I was not going to revisit this thread, but then I saw your response and, out of respect, came back one more time. I understand your position, and I value your opinion, so much so that I got to rethinking my own on this. After doing so, I find no reason to change what I have said. Pitt will be Pitt, and the media here is going to support the home town team. The BigTen should be different. I cannot imagine if Sandusky had happened at Alabama, the SEC would not have risen to their defense, or at least taken no action beyond what the NCAA had already done. Instead, the BigTen piled on, taking away Bowl money, etc. Then, post sanctions, when Delany had a chance to argue for 2 BigTen teams in the playoffs this year, he stood silent. I have no doubt, if the records were reversed, and OSU won the Conference and beat us, he would be screaming at the top of his lungs that the Conference Champion should be in the final four. If in this season of us winning the best division in the best conference in the Country is not enough to get us into the playoffs, what the hell are we doing here? We all understand this is an academic exercise, as nothing any of us say or do will make any difference in the outcomes of the bowls. I will not watch any, but ours, as has been my custom these last few years. I do follow the games as they progress, mostly by updates on this board, and even if every BigTen team won, or none did, my life would not change. Christmas is near and I will take joy in celebrating with my family and friends. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to you, nits74, and to all my board friends. May the New Year be a better one for us all.

By rule, you have the right to root for either team. When two pieces of pond scum play each other, in general, it becomes impossible to choose one piece of scum over the other.

Wait, what, you want Pitt to beat Northwestern? Think harder.

now....no.....no, I did not say that.

I said that both, are pieces of shit, and that it is acceptable, to root for either over the other. The main thing is that one of the pieces of shit, loses, and a celebration ensues.

You do NOT allow just ONE of them, to rule your hate. No single one of them(Big ten 13, pitt, nd) can be given too much time in your head over the others.

Jeez, you let that happen, you become Barry Fenchak, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I disagree-completely.

Fantastic.

then go cheer for a conference that has systematically screwed us blind for 25 years, nearly voted against us, made us wait 3 years to play, put us on sanctions unfairly, politicked AGAINST US for the playoff, and stole money from us.

Have fun looking at yourself in the mirror.

ESPN did not have any employees on the Penn State board of trustees, I believe, in 2011. They conducted a witch hunt, and a smear campaign, and I don't believe they asked permission to do so beforehand.

Screw Jim Delany and screw the Big Ten. They are not our conference and never WILL BE our conference and not a god damn thing about that has anything to do with the Board of Trustees in 2011.

Late 1980's? You betcha. This University sold the hell out.

I'm torn because I'm ticked about us being left out, but I also enjoyed the chance for us to play in big games through the season against highly ranked opponents and beat them. It's more fun beating a number 2 ranked Ohio State than a 6 loss Ohio State. I hope Ohio State wins it all, wins every game until we play again and then we kick their top ranked defending national champion asses at their place. They'll want revenge for last year and we'll want revenge for being left out and having our win be called a fluke. I don't really care what the majority of the conference does other than that. Most bowl games are really just bad to mediocre games. I'll root for the big ten do well in the non conference part of the season as well. I do think we'll have to go undefeated next year to get in the playoff which is awfully tough to do. The game with Ohio State will most likely define our year. Michigan and Pitt will get the Michigan State revenge treatment.

Today 2018 prospect Isaiah Humphries narrowed his list to eight schools including PSU. Eight schools, not very narrow.

Who was the dumb ass that insisted, and posted several times, that Humphries was going to commit to PSU this past Sunday, Dec. 18?

Oops. Wrong thread. Sorry.

I'll be rooting for all the BIG teams that I bet money on. And there are definitely a few.
Michigan won't be one of them. Ohio State may not be either.

I may post by Big Ten Bowl picks tomorrow. I don't like either of those teams to win.

Please do. I've already bet against UM at +7.
I actually like NW a little bit but hoping the line goes up. Pitt defense not good and offense may be affected by loss of Canada.
Indiana is a better team than they get credit for and I think they are more motivated under a different head coach. Sounds like they really didn't like Wilson.
I snuck a Wazzu bet in at -7.5 vs Minny when the news hit. I may bet the other way if it hits +10.5 for Minny and hope to hit the middle.
Torn on Nebraska. Very tempted to bet them if the spread keeps going up. Who knows which Tennessee team shows up though.
not touching Maryland or Iowa.

Oh yeah. Hoping to get PSU at +7. Been making me money all season.

people are discounting NW . . . they give up a lot of passing yards, yet they are 5th in scoring defense and 3rd in passing TDs allowed. they've been dealing with a lot of injuries as well.

Tenn should stomp Nebraska in what is essentially a home game

Same goes for Florida State against Michigan

Over-under on dead bodies?

What's the line? Who you got? :)

FSU getting 7 points against UM just sounds like free money

If I had to bet the mortgage money on them straight up.......I think I'd sleep better at night with my money on FSU to win outright

+7 for FSU sounds like the Money Line should be at least 2-1 (if not 3-1)..........if I was a gambler, that would be a tough opportunity to pass up
(When I did wager, I always preferred Money Lines over Pointspreads)

I really don't get that line. FSU lost a squeaker to NC. lost a squeaker to Clemson they should have won. fluke loss to Louisville. game is in Miami.

Michigan is not that good on the road.
