does anyone know why the shirt was pulled? Shakur out, Morelli ok today? Lots of flu going around. Me personally... will let Cael coach but was hoping the shirt stayed on so he could challenge his coach's unprecedented record. Oh well.
Now - all you folks claiming Mark is a natl champ.... all kinds of things can happen in close matches. We saw today that he isn't in the situation where he can simply take someone down at will. Saw that at the scuffle as well (semi's). I do thin he will get better and still be an AA. Also thought Shakur would be as well. But I'm not being paid as the coach and am pretty damn far from the pgm...
great win... How 'bout those Nit' Lions!!

never mind... Cael answered it on his presser (on flo).... they all wanted it.

It shows how obviously far from the program many fans here were... questioning the pulling of Mark Hall's RS. Those doubting it... clearly NOT in the know... yet questioning with blinded argument the need not to do it. It's why coaches get paid to make the precise decisions to go all in, contradicting completely, the many who posted incorrect narratives for not needing to pull Mark Halls RS in the bitch fest that ensued.

Many might want to go find 21 Guns and Spyker and give them a competitive slap on the ass and let them know they're still bro's as they surely knew more than the hordes battling against them. Let them know they have their BRO CARDS back... and yours has been rescinded for false fan speak, incorrect speculation, reckless assumption and NOT remotely knowing that Cael and Company were already planning on going in another direction from super fan counter views which shared little of what they were thinking.

Hall looked gassed and not himself.

Several PSU wrestlers looked lethargic compared to their usual selves - Nolf did not look like his usual self. OTOH, Jimmy looked great, especially in the 3rd - as did Bo and Nick Nevills. But how damn impressive is it when even Casey Cunningham says they didn't wrestle their best and you still blowout Iowa 26-11 @ CHA??? Apparently Iowa has been reduced to "moral victories" - that program has really become a shell of its former self.

Lol. Guns was not in the know. He was doing his normal bitching and throwing shit against the wall. This time it stuck, which is a fairly rare occurrence with Gun's shit.

Anyway, i misses Sanderson's comments. What did he say?

I think the Scuffle had an awful lot to do with this decision. Had Hall gone there and struggled or even placed in the 4-6 range, I don't think we're where we are today. He went to one of the toughest tournaments and won it convincingly against some of the top guys in the nation at his weight. I really think this was the key to deciding to pull the redshirt.

If it was just Halls performance at the Scuffle I think they would have found a more opportune moment to pull his shirt than at Carver.

The loss of Cortez and any pts PSU may have got from 33 was likely in the equation.

Ok State and to a lesser extent tOSU looking so good to this point likely tipped the scale, as the coaches realized they would likely need all the pts PSU can put up come March.

Just speculating but I think Cortez being out for the season tipped the scale. If he had been healthy AND was wrestling at a form that said he'd score a decent amount of points at NCAA's, they may have maintained the status quo.

Hall had just wrestled the Scuffle before Minny/Nebraska. Wasn't gonna happen there. Maybe you do it for Rutgers, but Geno had to weigh-in and wrestle twice the week before. Perhaps they didn't feel it was fair to have the wrestle-off that week.

I certainly didn't say it was the only reason, I said it had a lot to do with it. They wouldn't have pulled it for Minnesota and Nebraska after he had just wrestled in the Scuffle the previous weekend. That leaves last weekend's match and they likely needed time for him to wrestle off and earn the spot against Morelli. I guess you could argue that pulling it for the home match at Rec Hall would have been more ideal, but I'm certain they also didn't want to wait another week. My point is, had the results not been the way they were at the Scuffle, I don't think it would have been a consideration.

I listened to Cael's interview on Flo and he said that Hall wanted to wrestle and pull the shirt. There are no guarentee that these elite wrestlers will be around for five years due to injuries and their freestyle careers. Spencer Lee and Hall have both said that they prefer freestyle. All it takes is one injury in folk for these guys to to put the breaks on their folk careers and concentrate on freestyle full time. I wouldn't be surprised in the future to see some kids skip folk all together and just concentrate on freestyle. At the end of the day these kids want to win Gold medals.

You didn't say a damn thing other than throw out anonymous internet attacks. It's not "this time", it's fact. I haven't bragged one bit, but, I'll gladly shove it in your face. Deal with it.

I didn't guess and I didn't throw a damn thing at the wall, read Grass's comment above and then read my comments during the shit storm from the haters. I said EXACTLY what Grass said, that Cael said. So did Amalone, so did Lemon Pie, and so did Spyker. Yes, damn right I was correct.

I saw Sanderson's interview after the match, where he said they've been thinking about putting a shirt for a while.
I suspect this was the case all along. I think the Cortez injury kind of forced their hand, along with Hall wanting to go.
So, that is why the argument that was used before all this that "you don't know as much as Cael so be quiet", was such a stupid one.
It was always reasonable to consider pulling the shirt and not an easy call either way.

Also, it's not a rare occurrance. I was correct about nearly all my calls during football season, correct here, correct about Zain years ago, correct about the Nico redshirt two years ago, and on and on. Haters gonna hate, so they put the false narrative out there about how I'm "wrong all the time" when in fact, I RARELY make a call, and when I do I am informed when I do it. That's all the time you get now, end of response and end of argument.

Nor in the past, probably, if you happen to go ahead and saw Pico.

I may not be correct, but I believe Pico did that because he wanted to sign the endorsement deal for MMA while still in high school. That pretty much decided it in regards to competing as an amateur athlete in college.

In a thread earlier this year I said Hall would be wrestling this year because once he is in the room he won't want to stay out. QED.

You weren't on this board for the Zain and Nico decisions. Unless you had a different handle. Or are Brian Williams.

Yup. I think of it this way: he wanted the Olympic Gold, and he wanted to start MMA on a schedule, and neither college nor failure to get the Olympic gold was going to interfere with the MMA schedule. Personally, I don't understand the hurry to start MMA.

Addendum: Frank aside, it would have been awesome if Pico would have won Olympic gold. I think he had aspirations of winning highest honors in wrestling, boxing, and mma. It would have been like Bo Jackson times 1.5.

Amalone, Lemon Pie, Spyker and 21 Guns... that is quite the fearsome foursome! Thats a Fact! Deal with it

Finally got to listen to Cael discuss Hall's loss ("He'll be stronger because of it"). I think it was a loss that will probably benefit him down the road, though probably not more than a win would have. The Brucki loss is an easy one to write off but the setting and circumstances of this one should eat at him in a good way up to March.

I think Hall gives up too easily defensively when a guy's in on his leg, maybe because he's used to being able to quickly get those points back. If he wrestled at the same pace as Nolf then maybe he too could get away with it. Relatively easy problem to address because it's less to do with his ability than his mindset during the match. In the Brucki loss he showed a situational unawareness toward the end too. I'd be concerned if in his losses he wasn't in a position to win them at the end. Otherwise he looked pretty good though--Meyer really earned the win but Hall had two TDs of his own and a third close one waived off. He was there, he'll be there again.

LOLOLOLOLOL..... you're delusional

Mother of all bad calls..... the lean years are back.....you can't find 4 wins
wrong about the Fries shirt
wrong about JoMo
wrong about Joey the toe's ability

Ah nice, already have a pet name for him I see isn't that cute

Look who is acting like a child now. How nice to see you revert to a four year old because you can't handle being wrong. As I said, you want a conversation, we can meet and discuss anytime at any psu match, or you can email me. Try not to back away from the invite this time.

I doubted you and Spyker when you said the shirt would be pulled. I doubted you guys when you thought Nick would give Gilman all he could handle in CHA. You were right and I was wrong. I have no problem tipping the hat when proven wrong- unless I still think I'm right.

Maybe I missed something (there were a gazillion posts laced with garbage), but when did either say that the shirt would be pulled? I remember a lot of posts saying it needed to be pulled, but not any assurance that it would be. That's why I don't understand why people are saying or implying the two are owed some sort of credit or apology.

Then again, I'm Obviously Far From The Program, so I should not be entitled to weigh in on the matter.

This could be clarified with a FOIA request of Cael's email account.

We won't even know if it needed to be pulled until after we see how the tournament plays out.

LOL, same here. The debate (if you can even call it that) was should the shirt be pulled now or not at all or should we wait and let the coaches decide. If we had done a poll with the following 3 options IMHO option 3 would have been the runaway winner.

1. Pull the shirt now or as soon as possible.
2. Don't pull the shirt at all.
3. Pull the shirt if and when the coaches decide to do so.

I happen to be in the group (is one a group?) that think Spyker caused the shirt to be pulled. At practice day after day taunting Hall with the chicken bock dance and pointing out point scoring shortcomings to Cael. Cael finally conceded and we are where we are.

Exactly. No moving of the goal posts. Let's see if we needed the points in March.
