There's a lot of stuff I like about CJF.... one of the best (IMO) is his frankness in PCs...

Today's PC (the Pre-Bowl thing) had a great example.

Asked about pre-bowl practices, CJF volunteered that there are lots of programs where the players would just as soon not have a bowl game - - - - - that to them its just another 15 practices.

That's not the kind of PC (political correct) crap that we all grow accustomed to hearing from these nabobs. Nice to have a little honesty from a HC in that regard - as it relates to all the nonsense bowl games. (Of course, the coaches all love it - because they all pick up nice bonus checks :) )

BTW: Back when everyone was consternating about "NY6" vs "Non-NY6"...… outside of the folks at OSU, the guy who had more on the line wrt OSU making the Final Four - which would have put PSU in the NY6 - was none other than CJF (I think his bowl bonus bumps up to around 1/4 of $1Million when PSU gets into a NY6 Bowl... as opposed to $100,000 or so for a non-NY6)

Close. $200k bonus for any non-NY6 bowl v. $300k for non-semi NY6. Barbour gets a bonus, too, if you can believe that shit!

So for Barbour, it is a matter of getting one more or two more assistant ADs.

She gets the AADs regardless. The money from the football team making a bowl goes directly into her checking account. Interestingly enough there apparently are no incentives in her contract based on the size of the surplus the Athletic Department generates. Big fvcking surprise.

im fairly certain that Gene Smith got a bonus the year Cael redshirted everyone and OSU slid in for the wrestling title.... Gene had a lot to do with that banner! lol

isnt that typical for an AD though?? Biggest difference is they can get it for both football and basketball...here's an outline for Gene Smith's contract...
Smith's deal carries a base salary of $959,263 a year, unchanged from a 2014 adjustment, and outlines dozens of bonus opportunities, including for staying on through the life of the contract.

Here are the details:

  • $959,263 – Base salary.
  • $420,000 – Other compensation for media, promotions and public relations.
  • $1,200 – Monthly stipend for up to two vehicles.
  • $5,000 – Annual travel costs for Smith and his wife to attend away athletic events.
  • Not specified – Annual country club membership.
On the athletics side:

  • $50,000 – Bonus for OSU finishing in first place in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup rankings. He gets $35,000 for a Top 5 or $25,000 for a Top 10 finish.
  • $20,000 – Bonus for Ohio State football winning the Big Ten Conference Championship.
  • $50,000 – Bonus for making the College Football Playoff finals. He gets $35,000 if they make the CFP semifinals but don't advance.
  • $20,000 – Bonus for the men's basketball team winning the Big Ten tournament or being awarded Big Ten regular-season champion or co-champion.
  • $15,000 – Bonus for making the NCAA or NIT tournaments. The award rises to $25,000 for making the Sweet 16, $35,000 for making the Final Four, or $50,000 for making the championship game.

scholar-athletes. The bonus is $25,000 for 60 percent or better, or $35,000 for 65 percent or better.

plus more BS bonus' for kids getting jobe etc.

That it is
to me, what is more interesting is how they structure them. I dont know what CJF does, but at some schools, the scout team guys, they guys that wont play, extras etc, would have full ass go scrimmages, while the guys going to the game, might be in shells or whatever. Just to give those guys that havent played some more real work.

Its un-f^cking real. Truly.

Its why I have such "mixed emotions" when a guy like CJF (or most HFCs - he certainly isn't unique) bellyaches about getting more stuff. No doubt, there is so much wasted $$$ that it would make sense to spend it on something that might yield a positive return (and I'd much rather see it spent on the resources that actually generate the $$$, rather than some 3/4 of an idiot empty-suit - - - - and it's his job to advocate for anything that yields a more successful program)...…..
At the same time, its like the guy living in a $8 Million home, complaining that he doesn't have enough servants available to maintain the landscaping.
You want another couple hundred thou to keep an AC? Use the $$$$ you just were given as a BONUS - - - - money you were bonused for doing nothing but what should be considered the bare minimum expectations of your job.

Anyway, at least a guy like CJF busts a hump to get to his spot (and keep it) .... and possesses a relatively unique and valuable skill set. And if he doesn't produce, his butt is in the fire.

Folks like Barbour just make my stomach churn.
I guess its just me.... but - honest to God, and strike me dead if I am lying - I have to fight back the urge to spit in her f^cking fat face every time I'm in the same room with that stupid pig.

F^ck that ignorant, stupid, lazy pig.

Oh, and BTW...… Happy Holidays to all in this season of love and joy!

:)
Now Barry that seems harsh

There’s no way he deserves to make 1/3 of what I make ;)

She has one sweet deal. I'm not sure what she actually does besides showing up at football games and presenting a "very special award" in the South Endzone.:D

What does she do? Well, she gets pushed around by Michigan fans who complain about 409 (or was it JVP) emblems on the hockey player uniforms.

The difference is that Gene Smith presides over an athletic department that generates sufficient revenue to pay its coaches competitive salaries.
