This weeks W - Iowa Edition (edited)

Name some what from the NCAA?

People who have been busted for roids while in University?

You're making my point for me.

The NCAA "tests", but it doesn't test. No one is sitting out due to PED violations in college sports. You really think no football players or wrestlers are using?

They all are clean in University and then magically start popping once they get into the NFL/UFC?

That is incredibly naive.

You are calling Roar naive? You've really jumped the shark with that one.

If he's really holding the belief that PEDs aren't being used in NCAAs then yes, he is definitely naive.

I like Roar. One of my favorite posters here.

Did you see what I said about johnbrooks posts on the forums? I believe someone did tell off Sans for that and Sans is told off often and he also often apologizes. Half the time he's drunk and half the time he's playing a character.

You keep sticking to this point that HR is claiming PSU is on roids. It's just hilarious at this point. Maybe one dude on HR has said that in the last half a year. Yet you talk as if this is the consensus there. That is the definition of playing the whiny victim and making something out of nothing.

I must have missed someone telling off Sans, But I do believe I saw him say it twice. Didn’t specifically notice your post.

Went back and looked, two people seemed to gently tell him not classy, but I did not recognize either name, not that I am an expert.

I'm still scratching my head and clearly I'm missing something but last weekend Nick could have been wrestling for the best team in college wrestling in one of the biggest matches of all time. Instead he's wrestling in a meaningless match against Northwestern for a team that's tied North Carolina and lost to powerhouses like Lock Haven, Illinois and Nebraska. If they lose to Minny tonight, that will top it. They haven't beaten any team ranked in the top 15 all season. Since Minny isn't even in the top 20, they will not have beaten any team in the top 15. I just don't get it.

You're not alone in the head scratching department.

One of them was Tarphawk who's a great poster. Former Iowa wrestler from during the Brands era.

I have a feeling Spencer gases because he has spent his career never having to battle it out on the mat. He has dominated everyone his entire life and now he has to wrestle for 7 minutes. This is not unique to Spencer, a lot of guys have had to adjust to college.

The reality is that some guys adjust and can go a full 7 no problem and other guys, no matter how dominant they were in high school, can go a full 7 minutes. Look at Andrew Alton. He dominated everybody in high school and had major issues in college going a full 7. Who would have thought that?

Spencer has been gassing in the third period, and if I were an Iowa fan I'd be worried about it. You honestly don't know whether this is something he will ever get under control because he's never had to battle for 7 minutes like this before college.

I concur that his gassing is definitely a concern. The first time it happened I thought maybe his knee was giving him problems, but then it happened again against Rivera, up 6-0 and won 7-4, with zero offense in the 2nd or 3rd period...not good. Hopefully time in the room will fix the problem, but I guess we'll come the B10s...

The OP (dunkej as usual with Iowa threads) starts this thread adressing me right off the bat. I respond playing along with the banter like i always do, and i got guys calling me a troll, comparing me to Vodka:rolleyes:, putting me on ignore etc.. who has the thin skin? I promise after Iowa gets beat by the funtastic five i will still be here to congratulate you just like i did in previous years. At the end of the day i will still cheer on my Hawkeyes like i have for 33 years. I will never jump on your bandwagon like JP whithers the third or Ban Basketball among many others. Im all Hawkeye forever and always! You just have to accept me for who i am!:D

Amen!

Just my take. Spencer has always been a kid who wrestled pedal to the metal and just overwhelm with a vicious blitzkrieg offensive.
Now he is wrestling kids that are pretty darn good. They are older and stronger and Spencer needs to expend more energy per minute to wrestle the way he is familiar with wrestling. Just my guess, but as Spencer gets older and gains strength gassing will become less of to a non-issue.

it wont take that long. If Spencer Lee graduates without a team title, they will be forced to turn the lights off or turn the key codes over to the American Psychiatric Association.

IF?? With the way the recruiting is going right now (e.g., Iowa not getting a constant flow like tOSU, PSU, and even MI and MN), there is no chance we (Iowa) will see a team title in Lee's years with the program. I think TnT are fine coaches, but our recruiting efforts have killed us, and looking at the 2018 and 2019 commits, it's not getting any better. Even if Lee, Marinelli, Kemerer, and Warner all win NCAA championships the same year (and that's a big IF), we still have too many gaps to bring home the gold. We've got to quit playing the blame game and start recruiting and developing 3-4 studs EVERY year. And until we do that, we'll continue playing second fiddle to PSU and tOSU. As much as I hate it, that's the reality.

That would be third fiddle, wouldn't it?;)

I agree. And maybe that's part of the reason (along with the knee of course) that TnT were so hesitant in pulling the RS and putting him in the lineup. It's nice having a kid like that in the program, but it would be much nicer if we had four or five just like him in our lineup, 3 others RSing, and another 3 more top 20 recruits joining the team next year. Right now that's what it's like at PSU and tOSU, and that's why we're going to be fighting for 3rd - 5th for the foreseeable future...

I think if the Hawks had an alternative that was competitive at 125 Spencer's shirt would have remained on.

I was admonished vociferously on HR for saying virtually the same thing. Welcome to BWI Nashville, I'm sure the Hawks will be back sooner rather than later. Good luck tonight.

You seem like a knowledgeable and good poster. Welcome.

Don’t get me wrong about Spencer. While I would be concerned about his gassing the kid is as elite as they come. I’d expect him to still win multiple titles.

I don't know what they sold you in orientation but I am pretty sure Tarp was an east coast guy and wasn't on the team but trained with HWC. He also had a journal he put out there on his time there. A must read, if you're a IOWA wrestling fan

Too funny!

He's new, the truth as a ladder takes longer when climbing out of the deep end of the cesspool.

Thanks for the welcome. Like you, I concur that Lee's definitely got the goods to win multiple titles, but I'm curious how Daton Fix will fit into all of this. Like Lee, Daton is also a fricking stud, and if Daton goes 125 I see 3 years of hardcore battles. I'm hopeful that Daton's size will force him to 133.

Sadly some of our folks on HR don't want to hear reality; they'd rather blame Cael and PSU for our current predicament and the last 7 years without a championship. I guess it's a lot easier to place blame than to look at proverbial man in the mirror. :(

As for tonight, we're going to need lots of luck. I predict Iowa will win 3 matches (125, 157 and 165). I think Alex has a good chance against Joseph and am going with the upset. Just the same, I think Stoll has been looking a little flat and don't see him beating Nevills. I was really looking forward to the Nolf-Kem match to see whether Kem had improved his game since their last outing, and am hopeful Nolf will be healthy and ready for B10s and NCAAs. I like seeing the best men on the mat. In the end, I'm just hoping we have a good showing tonight... :)

Welcome Nashville, I have read your posts on HR and you seem pretty level. And, OT, I go to Nashville at least 4 times a year for work, it is one of my favorite cities to travel to!

Thank you, my friend...I try to keep it real. And yes, Nashville is an amazing city to visit, and it's growing like crazy. My wife has lived here since her college days (20 years)...city looks nothing like the old days. Great party town for both young and old visitors. :)

You have to figure in Suriano as well. The next two years if we have Spencer, Daton, and Suriano we are in for a treat as wrestling fans at 125. And then you throw in a Teasdale or RBY and you’re going to have some disappointed studs. Only one guy can win the title.

@Roar

Ofc I don't know you. My judgement of you is based on the posts of yours that I've read. You seem like a very positive, reasonable, and knowledgeable poster.

If you're going to jump on the "never based on facts" train too then I'll just assume you haven't read my posts and your criticism of me is based on the hyper defensive regurgitated hatred that is spewed. Go read my initial post on the NCAA camp pay bylaw and let me know one non fact that you can find in that post.

With that said, to claim I'm being judgemental because I say NCAA PED testing is a joke is.......ridiculous.

I would be insulted if I were compared to him too!!

You're not alone in the head scratching department.

You and matter sound like the people who I extricated from my life when I left a very high paying investment banking job to work at a not for profit....

It is HIS life. YOU may think PSU is the cat's meow. YOU may think PSU offers someone the best opportunity for fulfillment and happiness. Its up to HIM. You can comment on the rules, but the kids decision for what is best for him isn't a call of "right or wrong".

Great point both about Suriano and the kids coming out. And yes, there are definitely going to be some disappointed studs at 125 for the next few years. So many top dogs who've only tasted the thrill of victory...and now it's time for some to taste the agony of defeat. And for you and I, we just hope it's not the guys from our team who will be tasting the agony of defeat...LOL! Suriano leaving hurt you guys...and sadly (if I'm you guys) opened the door just a crack from a total team concept. With him on the team and a healthy Nolf you all would be untouchable, to say the least. Frankly I still think you're untouchable as I think tOSU is overrated at a couple weights and they don't bring the bonus points that your studs will. I will be surprised if the final score at NCAAs is closer than a 15-20 point gap (with a healthy Nolf).
