The one thing about Cliff is that he seems to play some of his best football in the biggest games.
Terrible analysis because Saban is not a coach who takes chances. Anyways I really don't think this is a big deal. You go to Michigan and you either pull an upset or you lose. You don't throw a true freshman in now. If you lose 3 games in a row? Yes. If not, no.Which Quarterback would Saban be starting? Allar and its not even close. Remember Franklin chose Clifford over Levis and Stevens. Hackenberg over McSorely. He's too loyal with his bad QBs and doesnt effectively evaluate them bc of it.
If there is one thing I am sure of in this world, it's that you have no idea what Nick Saban would do about any football situation, let alone the hypothetical one you mention, but you go on with yourself.Which Quarterback would Saban be starting?
NOT.GOING.TO.HAPPENClifford plays hard, but have seen this so many times. Offense needs a spark, I say its time to start Allar. Will have two weeks to prepare for Michigan.
Thanks Nick.Which Quarterback would Saban be starting? Allar and its not even close. Remember Franklin chose Clifford over Levis and Stevens. Hackenberg over McSorely. He's too loyal with his bad QBs and doesnt effectively evaluate them bc of it.
Isn't it strange how "we" can always see what coaches can't?This reminds me so much of Hackenbergs last year when he was absolutely horrendous but JF refused to put in McSorely. I dont care if Hack was a 2nd round draft pick. Us fans who watched every play could tell he was done. Hackenberg literally could not be any worse but he never gave McSorely a chance. We all saw what McSorely could do. Just in the Georgia game alone he almost pulled a miracle comeback when Hack got hurt. The difference here is that Allar actually has gotten some action and we already can see he's a stud.
Benching Clifford would put his remote chance at an NFL free agent contract in jeopardy. Then if Allar performs poorly there would be dissent among the players.I know Franklin will stick with Clifford but its not whats best for the team. We'll see if Clifford can make it through the game.
Ah, the old “the backup QB is always better”….so if Allar throws a pick six, do we go with Veilleux?Ha he's had plenty of time this season. Its a shame too because we have some burners that can really stretch the field and make you pay deep. But with Clifford thats not gonna be in the playbook. I really think our run game is good enough to keep a D like Michigan honest, simplify the playbook for Allar, and throw some bombs.
How many points are we gonna score with Clifford vs. Michigan? 14-17 tops? I don't see Clifford driving us the length of the field vs. Michigan. We really think Allar could do worse? And dont tell me about veteran experience. I'd predict Clifford to throw a pick-6 vs Michigan before I'd predict Allar to throw one.
Who needs to watch hours and hours of film, be present at every practice, and do this for a living….all it takes is sitting on your couch and watching three hours a week.Isn't it strange how "we" can always see what coaches can't?
Highly unlikely as JF will want to try to get to a top bowl e.g. Orange and he will ride Cliff through the weak end of the schedule. That is likely the plan.
Really? What I see is a very big kid who is a pure drop back quarterback with a big arm. I have no idea about how good a quarterback he is.This reminds me so much of Hackenbergs last year when he was absolutely horrendous but JF refused to put in McSorely. I dont care if Hack was a 2nd round draft pick. Us fans who watched every play could tell he was done. Hackenberg literally could not be any worse but he never gave McSorely a chance. Don't forget the beer chugging.Who needs to watch hours and hours of film, be present at every practice, and do this for a living….all it takes is sitting on your couch and watching three hours a week.
Couple things: Saban would have started Allar but he would have done so week 1 not leading into the Michigan game. Hackenberg absolutely would have been the QB over McSorley if Saban was in charge as McSorley wouldn't have even been someone he'd consider recruiting as a QB. I don't think it's about loyalty as much as it is about experience.Which Quarterback would Saban be starting? Allar and its not even close. Remember Franklin chose Clifford over Levis and Stevens. Hackenberg over McSorely. He's too loyal with his bad QBs and doesnt effectively evaluate them bc of it.
PSU will lose with Clifford. That’s a fact. No reason not to develop young talent. Not today, but if PSU loses to UM and OSU, it's time to pull the plug on Clifford and develop Allar.
He should have been pulled yesterday or at least given Allan a shot for a few series.Clifford should get the start, but I don't think that CJF should be afraid to pull him for ineffectiveness with the game still in doubt if Clifford plays like he did today. I hope he is making sure the young guys get some first-team reps since our last big road matchup ended with Clifford watching from the sidelines.
I expect we'll see a better Clifford than we saw today in two weeks.
Good coach’s make tough decisions. Saban replaced a a NC winning QB. Clifford has done nothing but keep this offense mediocre. Franklin is guilty of the same.Anyone who thinks the true freshman should replace the 6th year senior, soon to be every QB stat metric school record holder, while the team is 5-0 and in the top 10 should do themselves and everyone around them a favor and quit watching football.
Ludicrous lack of football knowledge and understanding.
And Saban only did it once. I guess it just happens all the time.He should have been pulled yesterday or at least given Allan a shot for a few series.

Teams very rarely pull a QB when they're winning though--even if that QB is struggling. At no point in yesterday's game did I think Clifford was going to lose it for us. And with the young backs fumbling the ball away the last thing any coach was going to do was put in a true freshman QB with the lead. Had we been losing 10-0 or something then yeah.He should have been pulled yesterday or at least given Allan a shot for a few series.
And Saban made the move because Tua had consistently out performed Hurts in practice. And Saban only did it once. I guess it just happens all the time.
Franklin has not done a good job at evaluating qbs. He has failed when it comes to that. And Saban made the move because Tua had consistently out performed Hurts in practice.
But I get it.....posters here know more and want to win more than the coaches. LOL
Even when they don't.....they invoke the name of successful coaches in a feeble attempt to garner credibility.
How long after Allar is handed the keys until the same coaching legends want another qb?
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Franklin is the only one of us that has a 10 year 70 million dollar contract to put his "opinions" into action. Is that a coincidence?Franklin has not done a good job at evaluating qbs. He has failed when it comes to that.
To be fair, Jimbo Fisher got 95M and he should be criticized. Just because the person in charge decides to pay a coach doesn't mean they're worth that money or above criticism. If anything, the more they're paid the more criticism they're going to get when they aren't contending for titles.Everyone is entitled to an opinion. The NNNNNCAC criticizes CJF relentlessly.....and he smiles.
Anyone who slams CJF on the QB issue is shitting on Yurich as well. I guess they all suck.
Clifford is the reason he kept running the ball. We weren’t in danger of losing because NW is garbage and the D won the game.Teams very rarely pull a QB when they're winning though--even if that QB is struggling. Until Franklin proves he can beat a high quality team, there is no defending him with any substance. Any decent coach would be 5 and 0 at this point in the season. Most would have won more convincingly.Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Franklin is the only one of us that has a 10 year 70 million dollar contract to put his "opinions" into action. Is that a coincidence?

No, he wasn't. We were committed to the run because of the weather and the belief Northwestern couldn't produce points.Clifford is the reason he kept running the ball. We weren’t in danger of losing because NW is garbage and the D won the game.

9 and a half more years......who needs defending?Until Franklin proves he can beat a high quality team, there is no defending him with any substance. Any decent coach would be 5 and 0 at this point in the season. Most would have won more convincingly.
The NNNNNCAC laughs at the challenges of running a D1 football programI honestly thought Franklin was going to follow more of the Bryant/Lawrence blue print. Dabo pretty much let them each play half the game, for the first 4 games. He made a gutsy decision, by benching a 16-2 Bryant. James is the boss for a reason, I trust what he’s doing. Don’t always have to agree, but we have no idea what it’s like to run a power 5 program.
Nailed it. Clifford is trying to make explosive play with pass over feet. Against UM, I fully expect that he will make runs especially if pressure comes. You have to hope that MY saving a bag of tricks for big games. This is one year I would not mind seeing Clifford run more. We have two very capable backups. It's different than most years.
I’m staying out of this debate. But Saban pulled a ‘veteran’ Hurts for a freshman Tagavolia in a dog-gone national championship game?Anyone who thinks the true freshman should replace the 6th year senior, soon to be every QB stat metric school record holder, while the team is 5-0 and in the top 10 should do themselves and everyone around them a favor and quit watching football.

I have one comment and that is "this post does not deserve comment"Clifford plays hard, but have seen this so many times. Offense needs a spark, I say its time to start Allar. Will have two weeks to prepare for Michigan.

Are you nuts. Grass not greener.Clifford plays hard, but have seen this so many times. Offense needs a spark, I say its time to start Allar. Will have two weeks to prepare for Michigan.
So go ahead and make the changes.......coachBut that's not true
I didn't say MY opinion matters, did I?So go ahead and make the changes.......coach
