Time for a QB change?

Is there a good reason why Allar got ZERO playing time yesterday?

Help me out, because I can't come up with a good explanation.

Yea, there is imho. CJF decided to just pack it in after all the TOs. Makes no sense to bring Allar in if all you're going to do is hand it off. How many passes did you see in the 2nd Half??? BTW, if the RBs hang onto the ball, we likely beat NW by two or three more scores. You have to be able to run the ball in those types of weather conditions - the fact is, PSU could and NW couldn't which is why PSU won the game. PSU put up 220 rushing yards versus NW's 31. PSU controlled the ball for 37.5 minutes versus NW's 22.5 minutes. PSU wins by a much wider margin except for the ridiculous amount of fumbling our RB Room did.

There's no way you have Allar make his first start against Michigan--if we go 1-2 the next 3 games and Clifford plays poorly then you might go to Allar.
Yep but I would have liked to seen Allar get some snaps yesterday. Wasted opportunity.

And we've already touched on this but there's a right time to make a QB change. Right now is not the time to change QBs. Just like the Steelers need to battle through with Mitch at least until the bye week. You don't set up young QBs to fail. If we go 1-2 over the next three games then, yeah, I'd support going to Allar but I'd support playing all the younger guys to get them ready for next year.

Really? What I see is a very big kid who is a pure drop back quarterback with a big arm. I have no idea about how good a quarterback he is.

And from what I can see we have exactly what we need. I don't want a hybrid quarterback. Give me the 1994 offense and an OL trained to fire off the line of scrimmage.

Saban would have started Allar but he would have done so week 1 not leading into the Michigan game.
Which true freshman did Saban start from week 1? I've used the Tua story, but week 1 is different than week 15.

Rain. Running backs were fumbling. Game plan seemed to be run, run, and throw only when you have to.

But wait, aren't we just salivating about the expanded playoff offering us the opportunity to play these "southern" teams in adverse weather conditions? And we cannot remain multi-dimensional when it rains? While many teams don't play in the deep cold or snow, most of them have dealt with rain without collapsing. Kinda blows some holes in that theory. Might be true for some other BIG teams, but PSU is not a poor weather team lately.

Truthfully I just want to see an SEC come north in December. It's not about expecting to beat them.

If we finish with a good enough record to host a Georgia or a Bama in December during the expansion of the playoff, we will probably be good enough to do something with it. Doesn't guarantee a win. We are still talking about the 2 most loaded rosters. Still, cold, wet, snow, etc. It's an element they never play in. What's wrong with having the curiosity?

For those that want Allar to play--throw on the Steelers-Jets. Tomlin will show you what not to do with a QB situation

Nothing wrong with having the curiosity. It just gets considered as a likely victory due to a team "folding" under adverse conditions. Guess what - it rains in places that are not BIG home venues, and those great teams don't collapse.

I'm actually in favor of a southern team heading north for a game in December. My hopes are that they totally humiliate a northern team in the worst weather so that we can put an end to this bullshit.

Maybe a little off topic… but I think the most underrated QB PSU had in my lifetime was Daryll Clark. Great RPO QB. Two 11-2 seasons as a starter and two top 10 finishes. 60 passing + running TDs in his two years as a starter. Think about that for a moment… 60 TDs in 26 starts.

He went to Pickett today which sets him up for the murderous row (BUF TB MIA PHIL) part of their schedule. He either needed to start today after 10 days to prepare or should have waited until the bye week

If the defense can hold or Pickett score again, it could be the difference in winning or losing this game. It's not like the Steelers are going to the Super Bowl.

So why does winning this game matter? Isn't the most important thing developing Kenny properly?

No, he wasn't. We were committed to the run because of the weather and the belief Northwestern couldn't produce points.

You're correct--we won because NW is garbage and the D played how they should have but that was the plan.
Lol. Keep drinking the kool-Aid.

Nailed it. Clifford is trying to make explosive play with pass over feet. Against UM, I fully expect that he will make runs especially if pressure comes. You have to hope that MY saving a bag of tricks for big games.
With our Oline, Clifford will be lucky to play the whole game. Could be a blessing!

Clifford plays hard, but have seen this so many times. Offense needs a spark, I say its time to start Allar. Will have two weeks to prepare for Michigan.
Northwestern, which has lost at home to Southern Illinois and Miami (OH), held this Clifford run offense to three points in the second half. Did fumbles play a part in this?...of course, but c'mon!!

Winning always matters. If you think Kenny is going to die in that murderers row, feed Trubisky to the wolves.
I think playing Trubisky was a horrible mistake. His second pick basically cost them the game. The only good thing about Kenny right now is he uses the middle of the field more the Trubisky but Trubisky gives them the best chance to win

Tomlin also refused to name who was starting next week. This team has 1-7 written all over them

Yes obviously

Umm Pickett went in the game and scored 2 tds right away.

He did "score 2 TDs right away". His first throw was picked for starters. Minkah had a huge pick that set them up four yards out. Pickett threw for 120, 0 TD and 3 picks including the 2nd pick which was the reason they lost. Now, unless Tomlin goes back to Pickett which might cause some crazy fans to hunt him down, Kenny plays next week against Buffalo. How many picks do you think he'll throw before his first TD?

Tell me JoePa’s record against top 10 ranked teams.
Without doing any research, I would put my bank account against yours that it’s better then franklins percentage. Franklin has two by my count. One OSU and an over-ranked Washingtion. Which really makes it one end of year win.

Winning the first five games has been really tough on some the the "loyal" Penn State fans that frequent here. I suggest they all hold their breath and stomp their feet until Franklin is fired. ;)
