Hell of a game last night. Kinnick was rocking! Congrats on your victory. SB is one heckuva running back. Gets my vote for Heisman.
Nice of you. Could've gone either way...too bad someone had to lose. Broke the string for top-5 teams visiting Kinnick.

Grateful, I am. Enjoyed the Gable years. If one wanted to see great wrestling, they were the team to watch in that era.

Now it's the Nittany Lions and the Buckeyes.

I'm a guy that always looks ahead though, not backward...what's done is done.

Demography is destiny.

Cael and Tan Tom run a similar model: live in the #1 or #2 talent pool in the country, get the very best from home, and recruit regionally and nationally for the rest.

Brands can't do the first part of that. The state of Iowa produces many good wrestlers but simply does not have the volume of truly elite wrestlers. Smith has the same obstacle in Oklahoma. It might be overcome in a given year, but is extremely hard to sustain.

That's exactly what we're seeing now with Cael and Tan Tom winning the last 7 titles and very likely winning this year as well.
Ryan and Cael living smack dab in the middle of the most fertile wrestling recruiting area is a huge asset. Prior to Cael and Ryan though nobody at Penn State or Ohio State had figured out how to fully take advantage of the advantage and the demographics were generally discussed as a big what if.

Just to throw a little dig out here. I am extremely comfortable in the knowledge that Cael and his program are standing on the top of the hill as King of the college wrestling mountain and Iowa's athletic administration is comfortable in their knowledge that TnT stand together someplace lower on that mountain.;)

Get back to me when you have won 23 National titles!!
Bro... do you know... I have a distinct feeling Penn State is going to exceed that. And with a quality of wrestling rarely seen on this planet. Bravo to the Hawks for their past achievement, but I'd rather live in the dynasty that is Penn State wrestling in the here and now. It's wrestling on another level. What Cenzo Joseph, Zain Retherford, Mark Hall, Bo Nickal and Jason Nolf did last year is awe inspiring and makes paying for Penn State season wrestling tickets the cheapest world class experience any wrestling fan can get year... after year... after year.

As if Ed Ruth, David Taylor, Quentin Wright, Nico Megaludis or Frank Molinaro weren't good enough... Penn State seems to go up a notch with even more ridiculous talent. Zain manning Franks mantle, Cenzo manning David's mantle, Bo manning Q's mantle and Mark Hall manning his own. And don't think it's not capable to match that number with that level of talent coming in year and year out. We could have this discussion, yearly until Penn State reaches that in a row. Lol

We'll never have another Taylor/Ruth combo. NEVER.

... although we DO have a Zain/Nolf/Cenzo/Hall/Bo combo that seems to be working out okay.

I like the Brands but... this season is looking freaking ominous for them. How do build on a mudslide?

See what Brands does after Iowa State takes over that state very soon....
Can't see this happening in the next five years. KD will have the same problem as Iowa has will not be able to swing the top kids to Iowa State . Need more than one or two and so far has gotten no one. As down as Iowa is this year I don't believe Iowa State can take them in a dual..

Iowa was the weak sister in wrestling before Gable came from Iowa State. Now you have several Iowa icons going to Iowa State. Maybe history reverses itself? Of course, I mean that in the context of your own state. Penn State is the MACK DADDY of college wrestling! @amalone

I'm not an Iowa fan but if everything broke right for them and they pulled a few red shirts I think they could place 3rd as a team. PSU and tOSU are way out front for 1st and 2nd but 3rd is wide open. If Sorensen, Kemerer, Stoll, and Wilke all put together good seasons and then add in the 2 big redshirt freshman in Marianelli and Kaleb Young they have a solid base which could score some points. The questions obviously come at 133 and 141. If Turk and Happel can step in and perform they have a solid team all the way through. For them to get on the podium though they would have to wrestle their 2 stud freshman in Spencer Lee and Jacob Warner. Both of them should be AA in my opinion with Lee having a chance to be in the finals. Everything would have to work out perfect but if it did this team could place 3rd. This really illustrates what a great time it is to be a fan of PSU. When Iowa can put out that solid of a team and still not even come close to beating PSU it shows just how good Cael has been at recruiting and developing talent. Can't wait for the season!
I wrote all that and forgot about maybe their biggest x-factor which is if PD3 can get his shit together and be on this team second semester. If he can and keeps his head on straight he should finish top 3 with a chance to be in the finals. Then again I would think the odds are just as high that he never even enrolled and is a total non-factor. That's how big of a point swing this team may have. With Downey, Lee, and Warner they could potentially score 60 points right there but just as likely they score zero.

Generally speaking, when everything breaks just right for a team the first thing people notice from a hindsight perspective is that team has more talent than originally thought.

Just a guess. I believe Iowa isn't going to be pathetic, but if things were to break just right for the Hawks this year a fourth maybe, a fifth more likely.

I would love to see the Hawks go all in and suit Lee and Warner up this season - still 5th, maybe 4th.

At the end of the year, nobody is going to be ostonished by that Iowa talent.
