Transfer name to watch…

0.0? Zeros in all courses. It’s not like he has to attend a single class. His grades come in in May and the season is long over by than. If he can withdraw the day after Nationals, he does. NIL $ not affected!

Nicky-look-at-my-Abs-Suriano will compete, possibly win a Natty, skip all classes, obtain a 0.0 GPA, maybe critique my run on sentence and in the 3rd week in March he will vanish like a fart in the wind that he his.

Booooya! With a phone drop and walking out of the room!
Seeing how most of the board seemed down for that if it was for PSU, I won't critique it now lol

I get all the back and forth about Nick because of all the drama ,,visiting all of these colleges , the NIL stuff, and it has dragged out for months now. However the truth is, many of us,though not all, would be very happy if he became a Nittany Lion again and solved 125 and help us win another national championship.

Yeah, we don't want to be like HR. After trashing Teasdale for months they did an about-face when he became a Hawkeye.

To be fair, every fan base does that when a former disliked member joins your team. I remember it well when my 90s Bulls brought in Dennis fkn Rodman and he suddenly became a hero here. Heck of a player but I never got over the Pippen shove...

He will follow the path of the 1 and done college basketball player, drop out after NCAA tournament.

Except that he’s already graduated from Rutgers, as I understand it…

I hope Nick does come back. I agree the best storyline is to come back to Penn State, but I’m not quite sure exactly what motivates that young man and/or his pops. either way, he alone, with possibly Glory or Vito, have a chance to save us some Iowa team points where it may count the most.

Here's the thing:

NS, even if he doesn't beat Spencer Lee, has the ability to take away points from Iowa by not getting pinned or teched by him. Which will be the fate for most of Spencer's opponents.

If Spencer isn’t 100% Suriano has a really good chance of winning. I hope he comes back because a match between him and Spencer with Spencer’s 4th on the line is high drama! If I was an Iowa fan I would be a bit nervous because I don’t think Spencer is healthy by any means. He is obviously good enough to win a national title completely comprised like he was last year but beating Suriano while injured is a whole different thing. I don’t really care where he goes as long as he does come back for one last go at 125.

Spencer should look considerably better this year than he did at last NCAAs if they handle the pitch count properly. That being said Suriano is a way better opponent than anyone he wrestled last year by miles, hell Glory is even.

Spencer is a great wrestler and winning nationals as injuried as he was is pretty amazing. But let’s face it…125 was pretty weak last year. Even his sophomore year who was at 125? Pletcher, Lizack, Micic, Fix, Suriano all at 133. You can only wrestle (or duck) who they put in front you. When Spencer beat Suriano, remember Suriano missed a bunch of matches and even medically defaulted out of Bigs…he was not 100%. A healthy Suriano is a much better opponent than Spencer has faced in a long time. But Nicky push ups is such a head case…who knows…he may just be done with College wrestling.

I thought we were supposed to know about Nicky Abs already. Didn’t someone say there was going to be an announcement?

I'd rather someone on the roster than Nicky Pushup. Even if it means no natty title this year. At some point, it's better win or lose with the program you built, and with kids who are actually considering a degree at PSU.

It's one thing bringing someone in who plans to complete a graduate degree, but even then I'd rather root for a kid who has put the time in at PSU.

Going to need Hildebrant or Nicky to get on campus soon and wrestling at the nlwc , you know so there ready to roll on January 7th vs maryland.

With todays transfer portal, those days are gone chillw. Every coach doing their job needs to keep an eye on the transfer portal to make the team better. Why do you think Iowa won national title last yr?
You are absolutely correct, but I don't have to like it. I'd rather root for a guy who bleeds blue and white and comes up short than a mercenary who has no respect for the school or the program. Hildebrandt seems like a solid dude, but I'd still rather root for Baylor or Brandon.

I would rather win, I need a new tshirt and not one of those that you see poor kids in Africa wearing.

You gonna tell everyone else on the team, all the homegrown guys you say you're rooting for: "sorry Iowa gets to hang the banner instead of you, but I feel better about our roster"?

For the record, it's pretty obvious we wanted Suriano bad and were perfectly fine with him enrolling in some random program that he never intends to finish (and maybe he wouldn't even go to class) That being said, it looks like he overplayed his own hand in terms of his bidding and we moved on when Hildebrandt became available.

No, but it would be nice to get 125 ready to roll
Yes, and we saw what happened last year to Beau. Better to get a dozen matches in including opens to get a reasonable seed.

Had Beau wrestled up at 149 all year I think we would have had a better shot as a team without a doubt.

Assuming Beau got the 33 seed over Hunsaker, here's what his path looked like assuming the rest of the bracket played the same.
Pigtail vs Gaxiola from Hofstra (let's assume a win)
Sasso (assume loss)
Casey Cobb
Josh Heil
Josh Finesilver
John Millner (to AA)
Kyle Parco (to advance to 5th/6th)
Boo Lewallen (to advance to 3rd/4th)
Yahya Thomas (for 3rd)

I'll leave it up to the totally non homer fans on this board to decide how he could have done ;)

Waiting so late to move up created the tripple whammy for Beau (1) Too little time to gain 'quality' weight (2) Too few matches to learn how to wrestle against larger guys and develop an appropriate style to minimize the difference. (3) the lack of matches to gain an appropriate seed.

I hesitate to say, but this may be the one instance I can think of where Cael miscalculated or at least he allowed a wrestler a little too long a leash.

I'd bet that a few of the guys on the team would rather earn it or not with the guys in the room than with a ringer but you'd have to ask them.

I'm just a fan, but I'd rather watch a coach like Cael build a national championship program year after year than watch some deep pocketed alums buy one. I'm afraid that NIL is going to make the latter more prevalent than the former, even in nonrevenue sports like wrestling.
