Now the REALLLLY fun part. Assuming they have a bunch of eggs in the Lee basket, do we want Suriano more or Red. I could see Chad getting to '41 after a year at '25 and a RS year, but I can't ever see Suriano getting there. Cortez seems locked in at '33

Hot damn.

The Suriano or Red (or Karam?) question gets interesting. I wouldn't absolutely rule out Cortez eventually going 141. Gulibon got there. Zain got to 149. Guys hit the weight room and grow in State College, who might shrink elsewhere.

Well given that he can't wrestle this year due to NCAA transfer rules he'll certainly have a lot of time to get in the weight room

El-Jefe's plan for world domination back in play???
Thanks for reminding me of that!

Here it is below, revised:

=======================================================================

2016: Nico, Conaway, Gulibon; Micic Cortez sits
2017: Suriano, Micic Cortez, Gulibon; Red shirts
2018: Suriano, Micic Cortez, Red; Lee shirts
2019: Lee, Micic Cortez, Red; Suriano shirts
2020: Lee, Suriano, Red

Note that Micic Cortez loses a year of eligibility if he transfers within the B10.

This works with any combination of 2 out of Suriano, Pletcher Karam, and Red -- assuming Cael can work the financials out and Micic can go 133 for one year Suriano can go 125 for 2 years.

So, if Micic does prove true with Cortez confirmed, let's consider it Step 1 of the 2016 Plan for World Domination.

When was that not in play? ;)

As El-Jefe indicated in his response, change Micic for Cortez and the plan works to perfection. :D

Assuming that Cortez can stay at 133, it may even a little better than with Micic, who may be a career 125 pounder.

Also, in 2013 while on vacation on Cape Cod, I first read the false report about Cortez to PSU. Now, 2 years later, also while on vacation at the Cape, the false report has kind of come to fruition. Sort of full circle stuff.

Did you read about Mark Hall and Spencer Lee to PSU while on Cape Cod?

Oh, guess I knew it was back in play once we got Cortez. Just wanted to stir an already boiling pot a little with a new ingredient. Now let's have Cael complete the recipe.

Who was ranked higher coming out of HS, Cortez or Micic? Just wondering since a lot of us were bummed out when we lost out on Micic.

Cortez, but not by much. Both were top 20. Micic was a 3x state champ and a freestyle World Team member. They were close enough that I wouldn't read too much into their difference in rankings -- it could've been as simple as Micic being physically smaller (120 in HS). Either would've been a great get for us.

He's an Illinois Boy - maybe PBS can give us some scoop beyond the rankings.

Papa Bear Slim - Hellloooooooooo ... Are you lurking about out there?

We need some sort of Bat Signal or Aquaman's ability to send out our request for help telepathically.

Agreed, also can't wait to see how much Cortez improves with an entire season to workout with Nico, Jordan, and Jimmy. He will be an asset to them as well which shouldn't be overlooked.

Cortez was top draw until he lost to Milhof and then Alber I believe. But that was high school. I am kind of curious on the Illini transfers

If we don't get a "Cortez the Killer" sign and walk out music in Rec I'm considering that a huge opportunity lost

Cortez caused Evil James Franklin to create a new Cael Bat Signal. (OK, he may have been prompted.)

II believe he will only have two years to compete for PSU. Big rules say he loses one year if transfers within the conference. Correct me if I am wrong.

Cortez = HS Class of 2014.
2015 = shirt at Illinois.
2016 = sit at PSU.
3 years left.

Think he has three years. Last year a RS, sit next year, then wrestle three years. Pretty sure.

Minute too slow.

Why does this make sense to you? Really.
Several on their board think Lee's ready to commit tomorrow. I guess they believe Willie (I.e. Lee may commit sooner rather than later) if the news may be good for them; if not they think he's full of crap and an unofficial recruiter for Cael.

Maybe Lee will commit somewhere (hopefully here) soon, but some of the HR guys are acting like Lee to Iowa is almost a done deal. I have no idea where any of that is coming from.

'I gots to know!"

Is Iowa a contender for Lee, sure, where there's smoke, there's usually fire. However, for the past year they have acted like he's already an Iowa recruit. I don't think I've ever seen a fan base make such a big assumption about an out of state recruit that has not given a verbal.

I think underlying this is that they are starting to realize that their roster is looking a bit thin, at least for an elite program. Sure, they have brought in a couple solid guys over the past 3 years, but overall those classes were rather light and several guys have already left the program. For example, Sorenson is the only guy on the roster from the 2013 class and Gross and Ryan are gone from the 2014 class. They need to make an impact in recruiting now or they are going to slip a level once this current Junior class graduates.

Some posters on HR talk as if Lee is genetically predisposed to wrestle for Brands and that Lee going to Iowa is their birthright.

Willie's comment about Lee possibly (POSSIBLY) committing early has only ratcheted up that talk.

Not just Lee -- they've also talked that way about Suriano. And Hall.

The Hawkeyes seem desperate these days for sure. Far cry from their glory days that are long gone now.

Will we see him at open tournaments like The Scuffle?
The real question here is: does he have to pay his own way like redshirts do?

I believe Midlands is an Open. If so and Cortez has to pay his own way, then Cael may let him go home to Chicago for holiday break, like Smack did (to Los Angeles) during his shirt year.

I've had the impression the Iowa folk are putting a lot of stock in this girlfriend issue. I've read some posts about her playing soccer and how she is in love with Iowa City. Apparently she took Lee over there recently for a visit according to Hawk fans. I don't know if any of this is true. I just know Iowa City is not the end all for college towns, and I'm not so sure I would be pinning may hopes on a high school fling if I were a Hawk fan. He's liable to wakeup one day and make his own decisions about his career if this is all true.
