DT mentioned in his interview on Sunday that the US Open is next for him and he wants to win that to earn a spot in the Final X. (that might not be his exact words)

John Smith and the other announcer also said at one point during the weekend that Cox needs to figure out if he wants to go 86 or 92 because at 86 he's guaranteed a spot in the Final X and at 92 he has to start over.

86 kg is in an interesting place because of this scenario.

Let's say Cox goes 92 kg and DT goes 86 kg at the US Open. Cox doesn't win, DT does. So, DT has a spot in the Elite X and doesn't need to wrestle in the WTT.

But....then Cox decides he's dropping to 86kg and taking that spot in the Elite X which takes DT's spot away. So, now DT has to wrestle in WTT to try to get the other spot.

Except, I don't know the deadlines here. When does Cox have to declare which weight he's going at? I do think it's well within his right to attempt to win 92 at the open and then go back down if he loses. However, if he does that, when does he have to declare he's taking the Elite X 86kg spot. Could he wait until the week of WTT, everyone thinks that he's going to WTT at 92 and then back out to go 86? That could screw Taylor if he was planning not to wrestle at WTT. I'm sure Cox would have to declare in time that Taylor would know he has to go to WTT.

Also, for weights where the US Open winner gets a spot due to no world medalist, is the US Open winner then not allowed to go to WTT? And if he is, then does second place just get the second spot?

All of this being said, if Cox goes to the US Open at 92, I don't see anyone beating him. Can he win at 92 and then choose to take the 86 spot or if he goes at the US Open at 92, is he out at 86?

I do think it's best for Team USA with Cox at 92 because that team they had this weekend was really good.

Also, 65 kg is going to be crazy. Steiber, Zain, Frank, JO, etc. I think it would be best for the team if Steiber dropped back down but doesn't look like he will.

I could be wrong but isn't Oliver out for this year as well? I believe he won't be able to compete until next year.

I hadn't seen the chart Flo put out listed in the thread below. That clears up the Open winner entering WTT.

Molinaro is going 70 KG this year. Oliver is suspended because of a drug violation and can't make the US team this year. 65KG is a battle between Zain and Steiber.

Interested to see Nolf in the mix at 70 KG. Hopefully, he is mostly healed up. Nolf vs. Molinaro could be good; very different styles. I want to see Nolf against Green in the FinalsX

It is a really interesting question with respect to the question of when J'den would need to announce his intention to defend his slot at 86 if he doesn't win the open at 92. That is a rather big IF, but still. A good FRL question @smalls103

JDen mentioned in interviews before that the cut to 86kilos is really tough and he's moving up, though things can change. That said I doubt he can make 86kilos with the new weigh in rules.

Should be a great wrestling weekend. Probably not totally decided yet but who from PSU is going?

But if J'Den does make the tough cut, that extra degree of difficulty will win him big points with Tom Ryan! Woo hoo! ;)

J'Den will have to decide sooner rather then later. Needs to be on full feed for 92kgs or should already be on weight management for 86kg. From everything I have read, it seems like he is committed to moving up.

Personally, I like the same day weight-ins, really think day before was too much of a factor in certain matchups and one of the main reasons why we would see mixed results between freestyle and folk. I also think USA will have a big advantage this year at worlds because our guys are much more accustomed to same day weight-ins from their college days.

Is Nico competing at the US Open? I tried to find some info on flo but the only thing I could find was a bit of info on 57k for the WTT. No mention of Nico.

Either way, it must be tough on the guy, given all the beatings he takes in the room.

Is there even a legitimate threat to Jden at 92? That seems to be an extremely weak weight in the US.

I've been wondering if Varner might give it a shot. Probably not, but? Hefflin has a good chest wrap. But yeah, it's probably J'dens to lose.
