Crazy?
Nomad makes a case for it today on Flo, and oddly enough I have been a long time proponent of this same approach.
For me it started with Snyder traveling the world during the season and only competing in a handful of duals only to march into the tourneys ranked #1. Sure he was considered the #1 wrestler in the world, but when you miss out on facing the competition it isn't fair to the fans or the opponents to be boxed out by 'reputation'.
Likewise was there much doubt Snyder wouldn't plow through the competing at a lower seed? No but at least his path harder, and the path for those that earned it, easier.
I felt the same re Jason Nolf last year when he got hurt. Why not have those matches he missed count against him for seeding purposes.
In short I think once a wrestler is classified a starter, any missed matches against top 8 ranked guys, (for any reason - sicknesss injury, missed weight, bad skin test, missed the bus) should go down as a loss 'only' for seeding purposes, but not on their official record of course.
The secondary huge benefit, it would eliminate the 10-20% but rising occurence of "ducking" to protect the seed that seems to be permiating the sport lately.
What say you?
