WE ARE BETTER - MATHEWS TO PSU

Hey I hope Franklin proves me wrong - I really do. As I've said before I will gladly eat crow.

OK Joe if you don't want to eat crow, I have plenty of squirrels available

The squirrels attacting my bird feeders this afternoon are f'ed today. I'm going to take out my frustration on them. No Mr nice guy today Mr. Squirrrl.

Well, not really sure of the point you are trying to make, but do you remember Gary Anderson (then coach of Wisconsin) saying after PSU beat Wisconsin in 2013 that O'Brien really "schemed us good"? I don't think we'll
ever hear an opposing head coach say that about Franklin. As to offering my expertise - always glad to help:).

I haven't heard other coaches say that about a lot of successful coaches. I don't want to out scheme teams, I want to beat them because we have better players than they do. The coaches who rely on schemes aren't all that successful over the long haul (think Mike Leach). I'll take great recruiters every time (think Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Jimbo Fisher, etc. etc.). Hell, Larry Coker won a national championship due to talent because he was a horrible game day coach. Good players make coaches better...period.

Actually, not nearly as fast as Moye. Many are saying he needs to add weight to play a bigger position.

Exactly. What was the poster thinking? Moye was a high school sprint champ and played a fews years in the NFL at WR....

And O'Brien was a freaking genius when he lost to indiana, lost to Tosu, 63-14, and failed multiple times on 4th and long in his own territory.

It had nothing to do with O'Brien. I referenced the quote to illustrate that in my opinion I don't think Franklin is a strong X's and O's type of coach. In the end it may not matter if Moorhead (sp?) takes over the offense and turns out to be a good coordinator to which I believe LaJolla made reference. We shall see.

Excellent point...the going for it on 4th down that BOB did all the time was some really dumb coaching. Many posters seem to forget about that. I remember at least as many questionable coaching decisions by O'Brien as Franklin.

Both had to gamble for obvious reasons. Ficken was awful his frosh year. We still don't have a kicking game due to the sanctions. Little things like that forced some bad decisions. Out of all the players that bailed, the one that hurt the most was Fera. He had legit reason so no hard feelings, but his punting and kicking easily wins 2 more games OB's first year. UVa for certain.

He did that because the team really had nothing to play for. They were not bowl eligible no matter the record. I think the kids actually liked the go-for-broke. Made it more fun. Let's keep things in perspective here.

Fine until it costs you games.
