Franklin has not lost kids to oh-high-ya state. And aside from the sanction years and the dark years PSU has had some success in oh-high-ya.

I agree with most of that but... Ohio State signed 8 Ohio LBs in 2014 & 2013. Two of those were 5* kids and five were 4* kids. They were stacked at the position and PSU needed LBs. The depth chart was MUCH more favorable at PSU and there were several 4* Ohio LBs last year (Baker, Connor, Hillard) but they all chose OSU. I was disappointed that we couldn't get one of those kids. Same this year. Ohio has a couple of 4* LBs and PSU can't seem to land one of them.
Franklin is certainly doing a great job recruiting. I just wish we could make some inroads into Ohio.
I'm not surprised that Ohio kids want to go to Ohio State. I am surprised that so many 4 or 5 star linebackers and DB's seem willing to roll the dice about playing time, given the sheer numbers of highly ranked recruits that Meyer is bringing in, but he's just one hell of a good recruiter.
Anyhow, I do not expect to get many kids out of Ohio as long as Meyer is there. I don't think anybody else will, either.

It is almost unbelievable (given all that has transpired) that we can open the bwi front page and look at our recruit list and see.... a full page of nothing but 4 star players. what an amazing testament to franklin and his staff.
Coach Franklin said he was going to dominate recruiting in his home territory and he's delivered...he's walked the talk
He sure has shown what he meant when he said the prior administrations recruiting was "pathetic" (I think Franklin cited a statistic that we didn't land a single one of PA's top 10 recruits in the 2012, 2013 or 2014 (at the time CJF inherited it) classes. PA recruiting pathetic no more thanks to Coach Franklin!
I'm convinced that CJF will eclipse Urby in recruiting in a couple (not many) years. Needs his own recruits to start winning big games. How long can UM's crying jags and prayer vigils continue to work?
Not too many years ago we were signing a ton of 4 star LBs and were 2-3 deep across the board. Some panned out, others did not. The sanction years really hurt that area. Plus PA has not produced LBs so much in the last few years.
Franklin will have us back by next year. I expect him to sign another 4 star LB this class and another 2-3 next year
Soon we get to see if Franklin can win WITH talent, because he can certainly recruit talent. I think we are about two years away
You did not mention the crippling bowl ban, sanctions and negative publicity of the scandal that the coach you are talking about had to try to sell to those top recruits. There is no way that you can dismiss that. It is a reasonable theory for why some of those top recruits chose other schools.
To think how great PSU could have been (Joe's final 5 years or so) If he just went out and aggressively recruited.
