I know that a wrestler weighs in before the event starts and always had been that way.
But, would it be more exciting and perhaps fairer to actually do the weigh in just before the match as the wrestler comes to the mat?
It might be a slow down in tournaments with multiple mats but at a dual it would be something else for the fans to see.
I’d like to hear thoughts or history about the timing for the weigh ins. Thanks

Yes, pose for pictures, stare at each other UFC style, talk some junk, maybe have a posse with each wrestler , perhaps we see some sucker punches, shoving ? Second thought, No Thanks

Even two people holding a towel in front of the guy weighing in, so he can lean on it to take some weight off.

You know that’s not what I’m talking about. And if you don’t it’s about the six or eight pounds growth some wrestlers do

Pretty sure the product on the mat would suffer if wrestlers even continued to cut under those conditions because many would be going out there without having eaten or drinking anything in a half day or so. To the extent the practice might effectively prevent cutting altogether by rendering it impossible to do healthily, perhaps it'd be worth considering if cutting was deemed to be that much of a health issue. It is a health issue but it's gotten better over the years, so I'm not sure there'd be much call for it.

I do think that the gap between weigh-ins and match time on Saturday night of the NCAAs is too long, though. I don't know what the precise weigh-in time is, but guys show up to the finals noticeably bigger, which favors big cutters who managed to get past Friday night.

One hour or less before the first bout of the day, so at or after 10:00am. Plus they get a 2 pound allowance from their weight class weight.

They should do it like horse racing. In full uniform, shoes, and head gear. Before and after the match. Any and all celebratory props included, which means Hall might want to rethink those guitars and sledge hammers.

Manatee, those air guitars have become a lot lighter since I played them like Eddie Van Halen in the 1970s. Your right on the sledge, way too heavily, he could go claw hammer, still makes a point. Don't forget Mark has a great mentor in his dad as his former coach. I've seen that man dressed in shorts in 10 degree weather. Mr. Hall senior is always ready for the scales and that is why Mark is always on weight.;)

They need to change it to one hour before the first bout of the session you are wrestling in. For finals, weigh-ins would be at 7:00 PM.

Interestingly, it would also have some effect on the Friday semi's, some guys could eat/drink more during the day on Friday, knowing if they won, they had all day Saturday to make weight.

No. Many wrestlers would need to go a weigh or two in order to compete. I think the level of competition would get better for two reasons: We would rarely see the sudden "gassing" that many with a big cut exhibit. The competition would be about wrestling and not about who was born with the correct genetics to enable them to re-hydrate the fastest.

Cutting large amounts of weight is NOT healthy.
