What are your thoughts on the PSU Ohio State duel ?

125- PSU MD. Weight cut tough for tOSU and Nick has endless gas tank. 4-0
133- Tech. tosu- Nato in beast mode. 4-5
141- True toss up to me. zero
149- Zain MD. Jordan game but Zain too much. 8-5
157- Tech. Nolf. Run but can you hide? 13-5
165- MD VJ. 17-5
174- I say Hall in an upset 20-5
184- Bo has a long memory and is way better. MD 24-5
197- Moore tough and active. 24-8
285- Nick great but Snyder unreal MD 24-12

Give them dec. at 141 and it is 24-15. Give it to PSU and we have 27-12. Give them 141 and 174 and still 21-18 PSU. Fun match in any case.

125 give pain
133 receive massive pain
141 mutually assured pain
149 give a little more pain than receive
157 give throbbing pain
165 give pain
174 give pain to guy not in pain
184 give persistent moderate pain
197 receive minor pain
285 frustrated by predictable received pain

I just hope we come out of the duel alive ;).

Seriously...
Using Whitters post above, I'll add...
125 Several rumors that their 125 pounder has a knee issue, but wrestling through it. Big advantage PSU
141 Really like Jimmy here, not a toss-up imo...decision Jimmy
149 Not a major unless Zain turns him...can't get there on takedowns alone, calling a decision
165 Doubtful major, my opinion, I'm going decision at their place
184 Some history here, both guys will be pumped. A Bo fall more likely than a major.

Only other thing is who's going for the Buckeyes. Here's a quote I have, 3rd hand, from Mr. Ryan..."We will always put the best wrestling product possible on the mat with COMMON SENSE as our underlying principle." Came from their fans (and it was on the internet :)), so pretty sure he said it.

I don't doubt your reasoning, but I think Bo has evolved into a serious threat as a takedown artist. I think he picks up one set of back points to seal the MD. A fall would be great.

Yea, I always that it referred to two teams rather than a tournament format....now that I understand, I hope Cael chooses an atomizer when selecting weapons.

Well even last time they met, Bo initiated the throw at end and had thrown him directly to his back, but essentially over-threw him (i.e., momentum over-rotated Bo past "center") which allowed Martin to continue the momentum and effectively "elevator" him. IOW, slightly better control on landing (maybe too much adrenaline a better description) and Bo sticks him last time....

You sorta, kinda agree then ;)? This year, when Bo takes a guy over, it usually doesn't end with just back points.

The hate is officially over the top, even for Ohio State. It would be a bloody mess. They should have a dual meet instead.

This isn't getting enough love. I could see average officials being a major problem in this scenario.

Cael caused this: "Under the current state of college wrestling, this dual, although important, has no stake whatsoever in who the national champion is," Ryan said. "Until that happens..."

The only thing Cael has caused is a whole lot of agita for the legions of Midwest, farm belt, meatloaf-eating, corn de-tassling, overall-wearing goobers who thought the sport was there private domain forever.

If, however, you get your way, I have no hesitation in believing we'll have dual teams the equal of any of our tournament teams - it'll just take a little re-tooling.

So Cael caused Kyle Snyder to skip duals in favor of freestyle tourneys in Russia?

Interesting theory. Please do elaborate.

Is Kyle Snyder going to be overseas for the PSU dual ?

He's there now and will miss Iowa.

Seems like one way to bolster the case that duals should matter would be to make duals matter. Keeping your best wrestlers out of the lineup does not help the cause.

Duals do matter, at least as much as regular season basketball games.

Each program has a responsibility to promote the sport to the best of their ability. At least in my opinion.

If Ryan is comfortable putting his best lineup on the mat 3 or 4 times a season that's his decision. I think it is a piss poor way to market wrestling in general, and Ohio State wrestling in particular.

Duals do matter, at least as much as regular season basketball games.

Except basketball uses the regular season won/lost record to help seed the teams for a knockout playoff (something Cael vehemently opposes). Ohio State's wrestling team won/lost record has zero factor at NCAA's.

Except basketball is a true "team sport" where the discreet match is won by a team, not an individual. A wrestling team can game its line-up in several ways including having wrestlers wrestle at different weights, have wrestlers intentionally stall at certain weights to prevent the other team from getting bonus points, etc.... The National Tournament and Tournament Scoring is best for determining who has the most and highest quality wrestlers on average -- winning a "Dual Tournament" format where you can game your line-up and you don't face all the other wrestlers has nothing to do with who has the best team of wrestlers on average, so why would you make it more important the NCAA Tournament for scoring purposes???

25 might be a forfeit if wrestled I say tech Suriano 5-0
33 tech NATO 5-5
41 going with experience here, could see the TF win 8-5
49 Zain all day but by what? Thinking MD 12-5
57-Nolf all day in a stall out on Ryan(bet Ryan doesn't wrestle, Thanks DAD!) 18-5
65 MD Cenzo 22-5
74- Bo Jordan until proven otherwise 22-8
84- Nickal gets payback 25-8
97- dec Moore 25-11
285- MD Synder 25-14 PSU
If Pletcher and Martin can come away with wins then the dual becomes very interesting. But probably won't happen.

So Bo drops a weight and Nolf wrestles twice? Outstanding.

There is no except. The NCAA used results from duals to determine allotments and national tournament seeding. Sounds similar.

Watching O$U and Iowa. Not impressed with O$U. Tomasello struggles against backup, MJ loses, Bo lethargic, Martin lazy, Moore solid, Snyder is gold. PSU will win 7 matches with several bonus. I only see O$U with 12-15 points. 133 pin, 197 dec, Snyder major.
