What happens if we come out and lay a Egg on Saturday?

I expect us to win this game, in fact I would be shocked if we lose, but I also expected us to beat Ohio in 2012. So who knows. What happens if we lose? Does panic set in after game 1? What happens if we win, but look bad doing it? One good thing is we have some easy games at home after this one.

As long as we win, who cares how we look? I don't. We're not playing for a NC this year. We don't need style points. I'm saying we'll win by 21, but as long as we win by 1, I don't really care. No knock at you Nate, but my gawd, we're playing Temple, not Alabama. Get a grip!

Ill probably mow the lawn and field. Maybe take an apple tree down or two. After toledo and ohio u, i dont take anything for granted and i was at the Linc for the last game at Temple and the first half was some of the worst psu football i had ever seen.

Holy Toledo - that Toledo team was a VERY VERY good team. They had virtually everyone back from the prior year and I believe only lost one game that year. Really wasn't much of a surprise to people who were knowledgeable.

That's what that TU_NY guy keeps saying. Temple is gonna challenge for the MNC this year, probably win the first round and be in the finals.

Not a "suprise?" Take a vote/poll for those of us around.

Im knowledgeable and it was the very beginning of the dark years, but psu was talented. It was was freaking Toledo and thier one loss was to a directional Illonois or Michigan team. They could have 22 three year starters lining up, but it was Toledo! Its not like they were beeting SEC/Big East schools. Horrible loss and set us back. Appalachian State was very, very good when they beat Michigan too. But it was "Appy State"! Look what that game did to thier program. The Toledo loss was almost as bad. There was no excuse for either program except bad coaching and prep.

Stuff happens to every program at one time or another. In 1999, Alabama lost to a Louisiana Tech team that got crushed by Florida State by 34 just 3 weeks earlier. I guess that was bad coaching and bad prep too. This week, however, will not be one of those times.
 
I'll take an ugly win the first game of the year against a motivated opponent.
We hope the OL has improved. It stands to reason with an extra year of prep, conditioning and cohesion they SHOULD be better, but we won't know until they get out there and play. If they've improved, we win easily. If not... Break out the Tums, its going to be a close one. ;)

I'll go on with my life and return to work after the holiday weekend. What else really could one do?

That's exactly the right answer. Life goes on. Unless you bet the games, and I do not, even if we lost all 12 games, my life would not change. I would still have work, and grandchildren, and my wife, and a hundred other things more important than a loss of a football game. If we won a National Championship, would I be a better person because of it? Probably not. If I wore a shirt saying 2015 National Champions, would people look at me and say "Whoa, that guy must have gone to Penn State and they're national champs. How I envy him!" Don't get me wrong. I will cheer as hard as the next guy and I'll be saddened by a loss and happy with a win, but my advice echos your post...Enjoy the games, but don't let them dominate your life.
 
We gotta stop egging each other on..... funny, I am never nervous before a PSU game anymore. Used to be when I was young. Seems to me that since the national witch hunt and hysterical acting out and wild conjecture that accompanied the aftermath of JS, I have become calm at game time. Why? Because I realized this one thing........ 'no matter what' We are still 'Penn State' and they are 'not'.... no matter who they are and PSU will endure! The legacy does and will endure.

Depends on what your definition of laying an egg is. Our Defense is way too good to lose this game. It could be ugly, and look a lot like last year, but I don't see how Temple is going to move the ball or score on this Defense. I also expect more turnovers from our Defense this year. We win going away 24 - 6.
 
Upon further review... I was at the Temple game last year, so I went back and pulled my photos from the game and saw how Lynch and Belton ran wild on them. It was 6-3 at halftime, but we out muscled them in the 2nd half. Even if they returned all starters on defense, these are the same guys that got handled in the 2nd half by our sub-par-by-PSU-standards OL. Starting to feel better about this one. First game jitters, what can I say?
 
What happens? The team goes back to practice on Monday and they prepare for Buffalo. The world doesn't stop if the team loses.

Your post seems to indicate that you believe the fans have some sort of entitlement to specific outcomes and "consequences" if those fan entitlements are not met. In short, you are the very douche that Teddy Roosevelt was referring to in this world reknowned quote:

Why is everyone expecting an easy win? The team does not even have a scholarship punter or kicker. The junior and senior classes were hammered with sanctions. I could make an argument that this will be the toughest year of the sanctions.

Good argument. At least there is a counter argument based on some very good recruiting -- the soph and frosh classes are very athletic.

Go back to that statistic from strength coach Galt -- if I am quoting him correctly, he said when he arrived at PSU early last year there were 3 players lifting 300 lbs -- now it's 53? There was 1 player running a sub-4.5 40 and now there are 13?

So they're young but there is a lot of talent. Win or lose on Saturday, they should get better as the year goes along and they might be very good by the end of the year. This team could lose to Temple and have a great season and at the end of the year people are asking -- how did this team lose to Temple?

Begin preparations for Buffalo. Have to put up with a whole week of experts ripping Franklin, Donovan, et al. Oh wait, they do that even when we win.
