The team and staff are really up against it now- for all of the reasons we all know. The next few weeks will be a real test of character- do they fold up like so many of their fans already have, or do they fight like hell for a few more victories? I'll be rooting for them to fight.

I expected this last loss, and I expect a loss his week as well- but I will be watching to see how these guys handle adversity. I think they will do better than you might expect- we'll see.

I only remember one PSU team seeming to quit on a season, and I don't think this group will be the second.

Just curious , how did you expect that last loss? I don’t know anyone who saw that coming.

Thanks for the post. I was actually sitting here wondering what Nitt1300 thought about all this.

How many more losses do you "expect" in 2021?

Tell me how healthy Clifford will be and I'd try to take a shot at that. Did everyone actually think he was going to be anything close to 100% last week? Really?
So PSU's remaining season success wholly depends on one player? I'm not arguing with you, just asking.

More than I would wish, yes. It's possible that one of the other QBs really steps up, but I think it's kind of wishful thinking at this point. I would love to be wrong about that.

I’m interested to see how these folks will spin it if Franklin manages to win three of the next five. I’m sure their take will be, “Well, he still lost 4 games and he lost to Illinois.”

Most team’s success wholly depends on their QB. How did Clemson do in the one game they didn’t have Lawrence last year?

Do you care to wager 3 of 5?

We finally found a point of agreement. Yay us!!

Did you see the word “if” in my post? Unlike you, I don’t live and die by how a group of student athletes perform on a weekly basis. I know there were a lot of people ready to make the bet that PSU wouldn’t win three games after they lost to Michigan in 2016, so there’s that. And if I decide to wager on anything, you couldn’t afford it.

If that important, shouldn't a team have at least 5% of their 85-player roster dedicated to QB's?

Let's do the math together........0.05 * 85 = 4.3

Does PSU have 4 - 5 QB's?

On the roster? Yes they do.

It was actually 2 games. They went 1-1 and scored 34 points and 40 points (on the road vs #4 team in country) respectively

The #4 team that according to the brain trust on this board is overrated every year. Can’t have it both ways.

I personally didn't expect it but it certainly didn't surprise me either. We knew going into the season that we didn't have a backup QB the instant Roberson was announced as the #2 because he doesn't fit the offense at all. He is one of many run first dual threats they recruiting starting with Trace. Tommy Stevens was the only one of them with a big enough arm to make the down field throws MY demands. Defensively, we are a bit of a paper tiger. The line has major issues because we start a 1 tech at the 3 and a 7 tech at the 5. This paired with a rigid scheme and an OC that has proven he can't make adjustments meant it was only a matter of time until someone figured out how to attack. I thought it would be Ohio State but Illinois' yardage doesn't exactly shock me either given how undersized the front seven it without PJ.

Franklin really knows how to "coach them up". The amount of time he dedicates to player development during mop-up time is impressive..

Their combined statistics are as follows:

Tae'Quon Roberson
2019: 0 completions on 1 attempt (0%) for 0 yards
2021: 11 completions on 28 attempts (39%) for 85 yards; 1 TD; 2 Interceptions

Mason Stahl
2021:

Evan Clark

You forgot Sean Clifford. But you said 4-5 QB’s should be on the roster, not 4-5 QB’s with good stats. So all the other teams have 4-5 QB’s with great in game stats? Really?

They should all have at least some "in game" stats

Well, for you sake, I hope you bet the farm on last weeks game because I don't even think their fat-ass coach thought they could win the game.

They were really good offensively in that ND game. They lost that game mostly because they were missing some key pieces on defense and ND completely shut down Etienne. DJ was really solid in that game -- 430 yards passing, 2 TDs.

This year, not so much -- in large part because they have a shocking absence of weapons or OL talent.

Big time programs better have talented QB depth. Period. And most do.

Programs like Bama, OSU, an Ga do, the rest, not so much. Hell, a ton of programs aren’t even very good at first string.

No I didnt' think he would be healthy and I said after the wed, practice report that I didn't like him taking reps from either of the backup QB's.
But i absolutely did not expect to lose to the worst defensive and offensive team in the B1G that got blown up by Wiscy the week before.
JMO but that was the worse loss of the Franklin era.
