What's an unpopular opinion of yours (as a PSU fan or in general)?

I like a buttoned down, businesslike appearance with teams. Shirts tucked, socks showing (especially in baseball) and, yes, short hair. And before anyone screams racist, think Clay Mathews, Trevor Lawrence, etc.

So, scream old fashioned curmudgeon all day...guilty as charged. How’s that for unpopular :)

(please don’t equate that view with what I believed to be a racist “fan” letter)

Ouch but I’ll say it. If Paterno would have retired a number of years earlier as he should have, the impact of the Sandusky scandal on both he and the University would have been lessened.
If Joe wasn't still coaching he couldn't have been fired and the media shytstorm would have been significantly less than it was. Face it, the headlines were as much about Joe as they were about Jerry.

Of course that doesn't make Joe guilty of anything.

I'll start. I actually like Urban Meyer. Hate Ohio State but I'm envious of his success and don't loathe the guy like other Penn Staters do. I kind of like him.[/QUOTE

I like malts waaaay better than milkshakes. In fact, I ask for them to be so “malted” that each sip should be “sandy” or “gritty” with malt mix

I'm old and live in the Pittsburgh area. That means I hate pitt in the extreme. Whenever I take a shot at them it seems to upset many on this board.

Since this isn't limited to sports, I am a Trump supporting conservative in most everything but am in favor of extreme gun control. Whenever I express my opinions on gun control I get severely hammered and ridiculed.

Paterno's coaching staff mostly did a horrible job in the 2000s and Curley was a lousy AD. These actually used to be popular opinions, until the scandal happened and everything was turned on its head

2000-2004 was horrible. 2005 began a resurgence with 11 wins, a BiG title, and a #3 national ranking. 2008 & 2009 were also 11 win seasons with top 10 national rankings.

Right - which leaves 7 out of 10 years when they did a bad job

As bad as 2000-04 was, 2007 stood out as the creme de la creme of stupid coaching

Ok may as well put it out there before someone does, I don’t believe the Jerry Sandusky was guilty of all 45 of 48 counts against him. I do believe he selectively took advantage of some minors under the guise of the Second Mile and in the secrecy of his home and other pleases he felt he would never be caught. I’m also not completely sure what ‘taking advantage’ of those minors actually was, or looked like, but in any case it was horribly wrong and there is no justification for his actions against those he offended and perpetrated against. And finally any view that holds Joe Paterno ultimately responsible for Sanduskys crimes in which Joe was virtually the only person who did the right thing according to the police and even the DA is tantamount to railroading and hatred against Joe and everything he stood for.

Let’s see if this post gets deleted, or is scoffed at. I really don’t care since it’s only my opinion.

holy crow I am going to keep mine to football

I think it was way more fun (not more fair) watching college football under the old bowl system where you might be up for a few different bowls and there would be reps at your games late in the season

also think football was way more fun pre internet, at the time you wouldn't have ever been able to convince me that way more reading about football was worse but just having access to a whole bunch of people who shout their opinions and insult each other over what team they like or whatever other reason is really a downer to me

I think JVP didn’t stay too long
I don’t like our current blocking schemes
I’d like to see the QB under center on 1st down. W/ our backs we’d kill the outside zone, also open up play action pass better
I’d don’t think recruiting JC has helped in any way

Oh man, I am going to get creamed for this, but the devil doesn’t like a coward.. .

I like Herbstriet and I think everyone who considers him an Ohio State shill or that his whole purpose of becoming the top college analyst is just to promote Ohio State from within is doing that due to a Penn State bias. He likes college football as much as any of us here, and calls it like he sees it - without a bias

There. I did it. I feel so much better now.

My exact feelings also.

Everything was better pre-internet. Look it up in the Internet sitting on your bookshelf, the encyclopedia!!!

The B10 should play 8 conference games, which would/could lead to a second good OOC matchup every year.

This one is interesting. Not saying you're wrong, but what do you make of Devlin sticking around as a backup in the NFL for 5 years whereas Clark didn't get a sniff outside of a training camp invite?
I’m not sure what I make of it to be honest. From the very, very little I saw of Devlin throwing the ball I didn’t think he had the arm to throw through that wind.

He’s fair except when he does osu games. I wanted to vomit listening to him last night.

I think Joe knew what was up and couldn’t deal with it (a generation thing) so he hoped it would go away. I love Joe and all he did for my beloved school but sadly he failed here.
How did he know what was up? Before the grand jury presentment or after?

We have reports that Joe couldn't comprehend the accusations in the grand jury presentment.

If you think he should have known what was going on at the time, I would respond by saying that a lot of staff and players should also have known. I think it's more likely that Jerry was very discreet and fooled a lot of people.

If you think Joe should have done more based on MM's report I'd ask why Dranov and MM's dad didn't do more. MM had a lot more facetime with those two than Joe did.

Pat Chambers is the best coaching option we have for our basketball team, as long as we play in the middle of the state.

James Franklin knows who he should have as his coordinators...even if the board doesn’t agree.

I'm a Republican that believes in Unions and some Gun Control. Unions are necessary to ensure that the common man earns a living wage with benefits that can support a family. Also, our 2nd Amendment rights guarantee our right to keep and bear arms(I own 2 handguns), not the right to own whatever arms we wish and to amass a cache worthy of starting a small army.

Pat Chambers was finally a break from the ridiculous Bruce Parkhill coaching tree, and he has made the most significant structural changes to PSU basketball in decades. He will be remembered as the most important PSU basketball coach ever.

3 more of those years were 9 win seasons.

Yeh, the 2000s were down years. But Joe did have 6 seasons of 9 or more wins from 2001 thru 2010.

Funny, but in one five year span (2005-2009) Joe had 51 victories. That was better than what Franklin gave us in the past five years, 49 wins. If you look at 2005-10 in those six years Joe had a 4-2 bowl record vs Franklin going 3-3 in his first six years. In fact over his first six years Franklin has two less wins than Joe had from 2005-2010.

I guess it’s how you want to look at things.

Yes, I would say that is a good comparison. Franklin has the program right now about where it was in 2009. And that is true even given all of the issues he had to clean up in 2014-15

I think that JC used up his eligibility about 2000 years ago so it doesn't make any sense to try to recruit him.
