What's an unpopular opinion of yours (as a PSU fan or in general)?

Since this is the unpopular opinion thread-

I think some kids are going to be processed out. Tarburton and Katshir come to mind.

I think suburban guys who drive pick up trucks are douchey

I think the phrase “blue collar work ethic” is stupid. Especially when it comes from college educated individuals who have no real idea what a blue collar work ethic is.

I think Taylor Swift is overrated in terms of her looks. I don’t know her music so I Can’t comment on it.

I think old white guys are the biggest group of snowflakes we have in America.

Good thread.
Oops I live in a development and drive a Silverado.

Many people may disagree, but I feel that PSU has gotten "too big" as a public university. Students are just number fodder with no real interactions among professors. Most of my classes during the mid-eighties were being taught by grad students and they could have cared less about you. Same with the Alumni Association and the Alumni Society. Too big an organization and you almost have to be an "insider" to even have a shot at being elected to one of the alumni seats at the BOT trough.

Michigan is the Harvard of the Midwest thus limiting their acceptance rate of the 4 and 5 star recruits that want to get in but can't and eventually go to the football factories

Oh yes, because most people look at U. of Chicago and Northwestern, and then conclude that University of Michigan is the premier school in the region. LMFAO

I would trade one Sweet Sixteen for Penn State basketball in exchange for sixteen national championships in wrestling.

I believe that Pitt - in the year 2019 - is a better overall academic institution than Penn State, and I believe that disparity will continue to grow.

That is certainly not going to be popular on here, but I don't really disagree.

PSU could win 100 straight national titles in wrestling and I would not care in the least.

Oh man, I am going to get creamed for this, but the devil doesn’t like a coward.. .

I like Herbstriet and I think everyone who considers him an Ohio State shill or that his whole purpose of becoming the top college analyst is just to promote Ohio State from within is doing that due to a Penn State bias. He likes college football as much as any of us here, and calls it like he sees it - without a bias

There. I did it. I feel so much better now.
Herbie is overexposed. He does too many games and
is too wordy. The guy drives me nuts so I mute the sound when I watch one of his games.

That stadium capacity should be reduced to about 75-80k, thus helping reduce game day traffic and parking issues.

I’m not a big fan of the term ‘Happy Valley’. I attended PSU from 1977-1980 and don’t remember using ‘Happy Valley’ to describe Penn State University Park campus. Not sure when it became popular or in vogue, but count me as one who’d rather not.

Apparently when Milton Eisenhower was the president of PSU he pushed a ballot initiative to rename State College to Mount Nittany. It failed, I think narrowly and so he went about getting a zip code for the campus and calling it University Park. I always thought that it was too bad that failed.

I'll start. I actually like Urban Meyer. Hate Ohio State but I'm envious of his success and don't loathe the guy like other Penn Staters do. I kind of like him.
I like the old days when recruiting wasn't part of the daily news cycle and there wasn't an star system or internet. I used to look at the Morning Call sports section after signing day and the signed players would be listed along with their height, weight and position etc. A number of weeks later Parade magazine would list their first , second and third team All-Americans and I'd look to see if PSU got any of them.
A much simpler time. A time when a televised game was a big deal.

This has been the #1 way that the internet messed up the sport.

99.9 percent of fans had no idea who their schools were recruiting before the internet. It is weird that we now know which schools high school kids are looking at.

I sort of kind of agree with you. I used to have season tix to about 7 Penn State sports. Have knocked that down to 3. I like to see Penn State teams do well, but at the end of day only 2 I truly care about if they win NC.

I follow football first, and then men's basketball. I probably follow men's basketball more than most.

I do get interested when I hear that we are having success in other sports, including women's basketball, hockey, lacrosse, and men's and women's volleyball, and I may watch if they advance to an important game.

But mind becomes numb when I hear about wrestling. To me It is like hearing that we won a gymnastics match. Yay.

I don’t really want basketball to get good. I don’t need the aggravation and stress. 12-14 days a year is enough. The way it is now it’s a nice surprise when we knock someone off in basketball , but no expectations.

1) I can agree that Joe stayed too long, but fully believe that it should have been his call on how he went out. Even with the early 2000's, the program was still benefitting from him. And, without Sandusky, would still be benefitting from his legacy now- even though he stayed too long.

2) I like Herbstreit, but can admit he probably gets fired up by OSU sometimes. Doesn't make him horrible, just human. While I love Blackledge and his professionalism, there have been times I wished he would "homer" on State's behalf. At least a little.

3) I like the B1G. Glad State is in it and not the ACC. BUT, I still have a bitter taste in how we were accepted. And how, at times, we have been treated since. I can also admit that some of our "holier than thou" attitudes were to blame for some of the treatment.

4) I like to read everyone's opinions on here and have nobody on ignore. What can I say, sometimes I need a good laugh.

5) While I love Penn State, my oldest daughter may not be attending (even though she was accepted already) because it is hard to justify the $55,000/yr price tag the University quoted me for out of state when compared to offers she has received from in state schools here..... and it breaks my heart.

6) I think we all take this way too seriously (me included) and fail to remember it's a game being played by kids for our entertainment. (EDIT: and to make a lot of $$)

If Franklin leaves Penn State in the next couple of years the most likely replacement will be Urban Meyer.

There are some alums who act as if Penn State is the only place where great things happen. It is not. This is a great university, but so are Ohio State, Rutgers, Michigan....even Pitt. That does not diminish what we do and I am not suggesting our excellence does not deserve mention, but there is an arrogance among some in our fan base that is unseemly.
speaking of arrogance......I have always felt the motto...."success with honor" is arrogant. It's similar to someone telling me I can trust them, because they are honest. If someone is honorable ........they shouldn't have to tell me.....it should be a given. I am a much bigger fan of "We Are".

I tend to agree, and in the wake of Sandusky it rang hollow. We were called hypocrites, and worse. That is not to suggest that are not a program of honor, but that we should have left that characterization to others.

I have had season tickets for close to 50 yrs. and they only fans I don't like are Michigan. Ohio State has great fans.

I agree and I cringe when I hear it. Not because we don't have honor, but making it your motto is impliedly stating that all of your successful opponents lack honor.

(Although for a long time we had to deal with Pitt, so I can see how it developed.)

James Franklin has just as many 11 win seasons at Penn State as Kelly has had at Notre Dame, and James has done it with four fewer seasons. Nice attempt, though![

Who cares about wins against Indiana? You do apparently. Give me wins against teams that matter. With 18 teams winning ten games or more I don’t give a fig about a record that brings no playoff appearances, one conference champioship, and less than mediocre records against ranked teams.

Kelly has been to the playoff. Not Franklin.

What's his record vs tOSU?

What’s his record against MSU and UM?

How many B1G championships? One, three years ago.

Ohio State is a really good team and better than Clemson.

Mistakes and injuries killed them last night.

LSU wins by two touchdowns.

"The Irishman" wasn't terrible.

Jeffrey Epstein didn't kill himself

-People who use cruise control in the passing lane and -people who applaud when the plane lands should be given cookies and milk and put to bed. -A slush box in a sports car is an abomination. -If you are older than 10 and not a professional athlete and wear a backwards baseball cap guess what, you are a dork.
Those are the rules, don’t blame me.

These are all really good. Keep them coming! I just thought of a few more based on things you all have said.

-It ticked me off (probably irrationally so) beyond belief when Franklin called a timeout to ice a kicker a few years ago. I forget the exact circumstances or excuse (something like we didn't have enough players on the field or something) but it was against some dumpy little team we were probably winning like 50-0 or something against a team we paid to come to beaver stadium and get their butts whooped, and Franklin iced the kicker with like under a minute left in the game to preserve a shutout. It irrationally pissed me off and probably has caused me to not give him the benefit of the doubt in other situations. Which leads me into..

-I think Franklin comes across as a little phony. You get the sense that every word he says publicly is very calculated. I wish he were a little more free wheeling and open publicly.

-I think we should roster purge more aggressively like other schools that are top 10 do. We're not fighting for top 10 finishes anymore, I want to fight for top 4 finishes, and if that means cutting Timmy or Bobby loose after 3 years on scholarship of not sniffing the field because he's not B1G caliber, then I'm all for cutting our losses and opening up a scholarship for a newer recruit to see if they can make more of an impact. I'm not going to name names though.
