What's the latest on K. Conel?

Anybody heard anything?

There was a photo posted about a month ago of Conel in the room w Joseph & a few others.

As for official word ?? ... I haven’t seen anything posted, but I would assume this board would be 1st or 2nd to have that info.

If he is active on social media, it might be the first place you would see anything. I hope he gets a chance to follow his dreams. Certainly his run two years ago was one of the stories of Nationals in Cleveland, BOhio.

He is making a low key announcement after his Dr's paperwork is done. But hey who's gonna believe me anyways...

Saw him in the student directory as a sports camp counselor, which would suggest he is involved in team activities..... at least in part. He should fill the Nick Nevills role nicely once Beard beats him by 6 in the wrestle-off.

Hard to believe that 2 returning 6th year AAs might just be 2nd stringers, to entering freshman grey shirts. No proof yet, but if I were a betting man and the public had a view (which we won't), my money would be on Brooks and Beard. Barring injury, I think Cael goes with the two veterans, and both finish at least in the top 4 and we don't miss a beat on the way to #5 in a row.

First world order problems. Iowa had this kind of depth for a decade when they were on their run. Regardless of how it works out, it gives us lots of depth in case of injuries.

Good take.
The Lions are going to have six guys who are legitimate threats to be finalists, and probably 3 others who probably AA. Assuming good health.

Spencer needs to take his ORS, go get the gold. That team thing is a HR collective illusion.

Spencer would havta beat Fix first.

Taking 3 years off competitive FS cant have done Lee any favors.

Summer question. What part of team stays the whole time? Starters and nlwc? Everyone?

I am VERY high on Brooks and will not be surprised if he ends up being one of the best ever.....but a healthy Shak is hard to beat. I'm hoping Shak can finally have a completely healthy season and finish his career with a title while Brooks sits in the wings improving his game ready to pounce on all takers the following four years. I have read enough from Mr. Brooks to get a strong feeling that Aaron is a team guy all the way and will be open to trusting Cael and his plan moving forward.

Here’s my pitch to Cael, Hall, AB, and Starocci

- AB start at 174 for PSU in 2019-2020 (Joseph 165, Hall RS, Starocci RS) and wins a title with Amine and Zahid up at 184.

- Hall takes time off from school to train, focus on FS, and manage weight (74KG). Yes, Hall said he’d never make 74 again. I know. But he also said he was hoping to grow. He hasn’t. J’Den Cox said he’d never make 86 again and I think that’s his plan now. Things change.

- AB becomes Non-Olympic Senior World Championship rep at 79KG- I’m assuming this is still a thing. This is the Logan Steiber world championship route. This has potential to conflict with 20-21 collegiate season, but with Manville possibly in the fold still, PSU can afford a half season of AB

- AB begins transition to 184 (and 86kg) after Non- Olympic worlds for 20-21 season

- Starocci has a Berge type cut in 2021 at 165. Not ideal, but if he wants to be in the lineup, this might be the only option. Relying on Willie’s info here. Joe Lee if he can’t.

- Hall inserted back into lineup at 174 for 20-21 season (79KG for next 3 years before making the cut again- Cox route).

- Starocci settles into 174 after Hall graduates

Bottom line is this... with Iowa’s 2-year window as strong as it is, PSU can’t afford to sit both Hall and Brooks in 2020. Also, it would be ideal to have them both in 2021 when Iowa is even stronger.

In your scenario, if Hall is cutting down to 74 (163) anyway, why not just have him at 165 for 2020 and then Star can wrestle 174? I see Hall, a 5th year SR able to handle that cut better than a RS Fr.

Personally, I think it looks like this the next two years:

2020 (this year)
165 Cenzo
174 Hall
184 Shak
197 Conel
HWT Cassar

2021
165 Joe Lee
174 Starocci
184 Brooks
197 Beard
HWT Cassar/Seth

Of course, I'm not in constant communication through text with Nico so what do I know.

Much more likelihood Spencer beats Fix and wins Olympic gold than Spencer's 125 pound team points make much of a difference in determining the 2020 team champion..
Before I take the opposing side, what exactly are you suggesting? That PSU has the team championship in the bag?

I think he means that if you subtract the 25-27 points that Spencer will most likely score from the 170pts. that Iowa will most likely score......that Iowa still has enough points to win it all.....I'm certain that is what he means :)

Your math doesn't add up... 10 total AAs, at least 6 Champs, and all those bonus points, minus 3 team points from DeSanto meltdowns still leaves Iowa with 190+ points.

How many likes needed to join the Inner Circle?
There are PSU guys in the inner circle already. So nobody else needs to pay to join. notes will be included in the monthly board packet.

Im planning to win a visit with Brands that I think Ill host at @WildTurk s place.

Least i can do for all the joy he gives this board.

I am suggesting there is greater chance Spencer beats Fix out for the US team and wins the Olympic gold medal than there is that Iowa wins the 2020 team title with Spencer in the lineup. Not all that cloudy, but to eliminate the faint haze let me clarify. In a field versus Iowa scenario, I would lay money on the field.

I do happen to believe PSU is the cream of the field.

Working on his dead lift then? Oh, wait, that is the tan team.

Getting better, at dodgeball!

That made me dizzy ... and how long does it take you to finish a rubics cube?

Thanks. This will be a fun year for sure. Far less likely we see a wire-to-wire situation like last year.

Lee at Iowa makes it a toss-up on paper right now with what I know. Can't rest on the field, as I see a few other surprise teams lurking too, but PSU / Iowa are early favorites. I like the idea of a closer race.

I don't like close races. If all of our guys reach their personal goals, then the race won't be close. I know it's not realistic to think every guy will, but I am a fan and I don't have to be realistic. Every wrestler at PSU has goals of an individual title. Who am I to hope they don't win one because I prefer a closer race ?

Good question, Mike C. Actually, I’m more of a charity case. :)

Should I sign you up for Room Guy Circle (10 likes), Starter Circle (20 likes), or Alliseeisgold Circle (50 likes)? ;)

Brilliant reply.
9.5/10.

The idea of a team of wrestlers facing adversity (competition-wise), and embracing that challenge, becoming the best possible wrestler, with the best possible outcome (at NCAA's) is ok as far as I'm concerned. It brings out the best in our coaching staff and the young men in our program, and I love to see the maturing, got-your-back support of each other, and overall growth.

The 2019-20 race, from my analysis, is close on paper right now, and folks, I believe, will have to accept that. At the end of the season, with hopefully no injuries … and this coaching staff and wrestlers peaking, I'll go with the good guys too at this early date. We'll see, I'm excited to see how 2019-20 unfolds.

Can you imagine the amount of Iowa fans on this board if we lose lmfao.

Couldn’t care less what Iowa fans think - if they even do. Mostly emoting rather than actual thinking. That being said, they have as sure a national champ as there is in S. Lee. We no longer do; though I think we have several finalists in Joseph, Hall, and Cassar. So, the team title may very well come down to who outperforms whom at 133 - Bravo-Young, IMO, is more talented than DeSanto, but has to show that on the mat this season. It’s going to be a battle for the title, and very well may be decided at this weight.
