There's a lot to unpack with Penn State's dominant performance against Iowa. Let's get to it:

125 ⚡️ - Lilledahl showed his offensive potential. There's a reason why he's called Lightning Luke. Like many, I thought Cruz was going to be able to keep it closer. Wrong.

133 🐑 - Bummer that Davis wasn't able to go. This would've been a great measuring stick to see where he's at. Props to McHenry as the sacrificial lamb and not getting pinned.

141 👷‍♂️ - Bartlett was never in any danger in his trademark workmanlike win. Schreiver doesn't give up many points.

149 🕺- This was a fun match! Parco's and Van Ness's styles lends themselves to a lot of fireworks. Van Ness brought the funk and broke open what started as a close match.

157 ✊ - Teemer spent a helluva lot of time hand checking just waiting for Kasak to make a mistake. Kasak wrestled a very smart and patient match and made Teemer pay leading to an iconic finish. I'm going to miss Kasak when he's wrestling for Rutger next season.

165 🌪 - What has been a meat grinder of a weight class for many years has turned into one clearly dominant favorite and everyone else. While the tech didn't surprise me, I wasn't expecting Psycho to completely break Caliendo. Michael is going to have PTSD after that one.

174 ⚒️ - This was yet another match I was looking forward to just to see where Haines was at versus a very physical opponent in PK. He didn't disappoint.

184 🐐 - For all the whining on HR/GIA/HB about the stall calls, I thought they were well deserved. While the score was close, this match was never in doubt. CStar makes it look easy when it really isn't. That said, Angelo showed he has a bright future and held up well as a true freshman against one of the goats.

197 🤏 - Buchanan showed why he is the favorite. However, Barr is not that far off. The quick escape by Buchanan was the difference maker in a match that otherwise would've likely went to OT.

Heavy 💪🏾 - The Kraken was released in this one. Kerk simply out athleted the football player with superior quickness and strength.

Messenbrink was most impressive but I already knew he was.

Close then between Luke, Shayne and Tyler. I went with Luke because of how he got after it with huge aggression after taking his 1st L. And because Cruz was wrestling pretty well these past few weeks; I wasn’t expecting such domination.

But the most impressive moment came from Stands With a Fist.

I agree entirely with your 184 comments. This was simply Brands/Starocci 2.0 or Hidlay/Brooks 2.0. It wasn't as close as it appeared. Ferrari wrestled on one knee, backed up and refused to circle back in for the first 3 minutes and both stall calls were absolutely justified (maybe a third as well). Starocci had a leg three times, the first two he couldn't capitalize on because Ferarri was completely out of bounds and I believe he chose not to pursue the takedown late in the third period because he knew he had the win (not to mention that there was an early stalemate call from the ref). That's not to take anything away from Ferarri who almost surely accounted for himself better than Arnold would have, but that was a formula not to lose by too many points and if they wrestle again this year (unlikely), there will be no doubt about the outcome.

Personally I voted for Tyler, just a masterful match against a guy who is really good at goading guys into mistakes.

Did @mcpat give you permission to do a poll?

Off topic , Van Dee had a 11-1 loss head scratcher to the 30 rank guy.
Not really. Van Dee will not beat Davis again. Second time around with Van Dee doesn’t usually go well for Van Dee. At least that’s been my impression.

Van Ness’ takedown….like Kasak last week, not exactly the same move but from under and awkward leverage, upward with brutal power.

It's always interesting to see how freshmen respond to their first loss. Do they have their confidence shaken or do they commit to not wrestling in the manner that led to their losing? Looks like Luke went the latter route.
Luke looked really good. His re-attacks are great, especially for a true freshman. I loved the attack rate and forward pressure. That was a great rebound win for Luke and I think Luke is right up there with the top-tier 125ers.

Barr responded to getting 10-0'ed (all takedowns) by Sinclair by beating Sinclair in the best of 3 a few weeks later so he's one I am definitely not worried about.

I was off on Luke vs Cruz.. if he wrestles like that vs the top tier guys.. yeah…field is in trouble

Before the season started, I was concerned about Levi making a 2 weight jump. Not so, any longer. He is just as
gifted in wrestling through positions as always.
