I have both a Wawa and Sheetz within 10 minutes of my house, and I've had sandwiches at both. Actually, I've had them at Wawa much more often because they are better. Wawa is the pick.

Sheetz has the bigger menu with a lot more choices. But Wawa has the better quality food. And the service is much quicker at Wawa. Both are far better than any other convenience store around, including Royal Farms (have one of those within 10 minutes of my house too, and I've been there only once).

And if you go to the big, new Wawa in DC, I highly, highly recommend downloading the Wawa app and ordering off that. Otherwise you'll be in there for quite a long time waiting to order. Crowds have died down a good bit since the opening, but the wait can still be bad.

Grew up in Wawa Land. Been living in Sheetz land for 15 years now. Had friends who worked at Wawa make that same statement about overlap, however, there seems to be overlap in the Hamburg area. There is a Wawa right next to Cabela's then you go south on 61 and there is a Sheetz. Little bit of overlap.

Not all WaWa's have bathrooms, experienced this first hand trying to find places for my kids to use the bathroom thru the years. All daughters so going out back is not really an option. :) All Sheetz I have been in have bathrooms. It seems like the older WaWas do not have public bathrooms. Haven't really found an older Sheetz that didn't have a bathroom.

WaWa to me has overall better quality food but Sheetz does have more options. Coffee is better at WaWa hands down. Overall Sheetz seems to always be cleaner. Gas is gas to me and really don't pay attention to the difference. I do like the Sheetz card and how it is tied to Weis and getting the 10 cents a gallon off for every $50 I spend at the Weis. Plus the auto 3 cents off when I use the Sheetz card at the pump. I always rack up my points that my coffee is always free!

It's a toss up for me. Like them both equally, just depends where I am at. However, traveling thru the Hamburg area, I tend to hit the Wawa by Cabelas instead of the Sheetz a little south on 61.

Always thought Wawa was a Philly area convenience market. We were in Kissimmee, FL in December, and there's a big Wawa right on route 192. Expanding.

No one knows why it's called Sheetz. Unfortunately it's founder, Bob Sheetz, passed away before anyone could ask him to solve the mystery.

In recent years they have built stores in Florida. For some reason they skipped over NC, SC and GA. In the Northeast, the Richmond area is the farthest south you will find a Wawa.

The only Wawa's with restrooms are "Super Wawa's" or the larger Wawa's with gas stations.

I grew up down the street from the first ever Wawa on MacDade Blvd. in Folsom, PA that recently closed, so I grew up with it. But I also went to PSU Altoona and ate at Sheetz quite a bit.

TBH I like both. Both have their own things to like. Wawa hasn't gotten better over the years and Sheetz has.

There is a WaWa in Cape May which is the only one I think I was ever in, although didn't eat any of their food so I can't really say if it's better than Sheetz. I will say that Sheetz has a killer hot habanero sauce they offer with one of their breakfast burritos and it is a tremendous additive when I make home made chili. It's good and flavorful with a lot of heat. Some of them will slip me a container of it if I ask politely.

I don't know what happened, as it's not the same anymore but Turkey Hill used to have the best convenience store coffee I ever had.

Sheetz. Everyone has their favorite menu items, and if i compare an item from Sheetz vs Wawa (for instance a cold cut or a cheesesteak) to me, sheetz is much better. Wawa is much better with their premade food, its not even close. But with the limited menu at Wawa, it gets old really quick

Or does that sound equally as stupid as referring to a pro sports team as "we"?
As a minority owner of an NFL franchise, I would feel justified to refering to "my" team as we. But I don't like referring to the team that I root for as "we" (that's reserved for members of the team) and try to avoid it. Despite my Penn State degree, that includes the Lions as well. I realize that this post is misplaced in this thread; perhaps a thread dedicated to such a discussion is warranted.

I'm not sure what your age is, but if you went to the Folsom location, as well as the newer Wawa locations, I'm not sure how you can make the statement that I bolded. Let's just look at the facts:

1969 - first time Wawa offered food outside of dairy products, and packaged foods (it was hamburgers and fried chicken)
1970 - Pre-made hoagies and sandwiches were introduced
1975 - first time Wawa offered freshly brewed coffee
1982 - Wawa separated their deli from the checkout counter
1984 - Wawa introduced built-to-order hoagies
1984 - hot foods added to the menu for the 1st time
1994 - the 1st superstore was built
1995 - ATMs were added to Wawa, with no surcharge
1996 - breakfast sandwiches were introduced
1996 - the first store that also sold gasoline was opened
1998 - bakeries added to the stores
2002 - touch screens added to the stores for ordering food
2005 - built-to-order smoothies and frozen cappuccinos are introduced
2012 - freshly made specialty beverages, like hot & iced lattes, hot chocolate, etc. are added to the stores
2013 - Wawa switches from receiving fresh hoagie rolls each day to baking their own hoagie rolls in each store

That's just focusing on some of the major changes. If that sounds like a store that hasn't gotten better over the years, I'm not sure what to say.

that's close, but not correct. All of the super stores, or those that sell gas, have bathrooms. Some of the older stores that are not super stores, but have been renovated have bathrooms. And even some of the older stores that have not been renovated will allow those that ask to use their bathroom. In some of the older stores that have not been renovated there isn't any way for customers to get to the store's bathroom, so it's not allowed even if a customer asks.

I'm in my late 20's.. All great info Tom, which I am aware of. I meant changes in the last few years as to be innovative. Sure Wawa has added the kiosks, but what else? Sheetz seems to be more up to date with the times, constantly adding things to their menu, Wawa stays the same, which personally I'm ok with. Sheetz allows seating inside, the only Wawa I've seen seating inside is the new one in Center City.

huh? I've been to multiple Sheetz stores where no indoor seating is offered. The Sheetz in State College on S. Pugh Street does have indoor seating, but a few of the others I've visited only had a couple of outside tables. The first Wawa that offered inside seating was the store in downtown Philadelphia, in 2015. Since then, that feature has been added to some other Wawa stores, including one in Chadds Ford, and the new one in downtown Washington D. C. I don't know the total number of stores for either company that offer indoor seating, but it does seem that both companies are taking halting steps in that direction (I suspect that space limitations are the biggest limiting factor). I don't see that you can use this as a positive for Sheetz, or a knock against Wawa.

Wawa changes their menu pretty much every year, so I'm not sure how you can make the statement that you did. I limited my timeline in the prior post to some of the larger changes made by the company.

I'm the opposite. I've only been in the Hamburg Wawa a few times since it's been there, and never ordered food. I've never been drawn to order food there. I prefer stopping either at the Sheetz further down in Leesport (used to have the lowest gas prices), or the one up in Schuylkill Haven. I've even been at the new Rutter's more often and that's there less than 2 years.

Wow, that's a bit of a shock. I remember working in the industry for 7-11 in the late 90's and Sheetz was all about (and pioneering) being a 'destination' (like a mini-Wal-Mart) for people which is why they built massive, gas superstores out in the middle of nowhere.
Massive gas superstores you say? I've never seen a gas station convenience store setup larger than Bucee's here in Texas.

- World's largest convenience store (68,000 sq. ft.)
- 120 fuel pumps

Tying in to the chip and pretzel threads, one thing I've noticed about Sheetz is depending on what area you're in, you'll find different brands of snack foods. Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre carry Middleswarth chips, Lebanon/Hershey/Harrisburg has Martin's, Berks county has Good's. In addition to the Lay's/Utz/Herr's selections.
