Why all the talk about "who has PSU played"? Who have the Buckeyes played???

It is crazy, but here is the reality of the situation. Most of the SEC teams are in smaller towns where there is nothing else going on except football. The PAC 12 suffers with low rating because there is a shit-ton to do in Cali and surrounding states and people don't make football their lives. Ohio is weird in that sense that we have a major university in a major city and it still has a large following. By and large, the East Coast and Midwest have people at least within driving distance to a large school.

What it boils down to is passion. tOSU, Penn State, TTUN, Wisconsin - have some passion. But if you've never been to a game in the SEC - Between the Hedges, Bama, LSU, the Gators - it's pretty f*ing crazy. We don't like to admit it in the B1G, but football is life in the SEC. That's why they get so much attention.
I believe the quote is.......football is life in the "Dirty South".....to northerners, it's just a sport (paraphrase).

--Jameis Winston.

So Michigan was a somebody until we curb stomped then, and then they suddenly became a nobody?

Yep, that's pretty much it. All the hype about the incredible "#1 defense in the country"...... until they had 42 points and over 500 yards put on them by PSU... and now suddenly Michigan is bad.

Before the Iowa game....
Iowa is 4-1 at Kinnick in their last 5 games against top 10 teams
Penn State is on upset alert
Iowa will run the ball down Penn State's throat
After the Iowa game
Iowa sucks

Before the Michigan game
Michigan is the number 1 defense in the country
Gary and Hurst are going to live in the PSU backfield
Michigan will run on Penn State and their fg kicker never misses
After the Michigan game
Michigan sucks
Prior to Saturday, Michigan D line was built up as the best in the country. No way, PSU can handle that onslaught. #26 and 9 with support from our O-line did great. Now, Wanstache has the Bucks DL killing our crappy O-line. It goes on and on.
Saturday should be a great game though. It will be interesting to see the last man standing. Hopefully he's doing a home run swing.

If this was 2005, I would have been really upset at the media with them singling out PSU and down playing their wins. Now I just shake my head. We are hated like the 1976 Raiders and I relish it. There only a hand full (maybe) in national media wishing us success.
They hate us for 2011 or they dislike CJF. Eff' m all. We will be good or great for a long time and the media needs to accept that. We didn't die like they hoped and predicted, BOB and player leadership kept us alive, and Franklin has punted us onto the national stage.

Problem is, the 76 Raiders didn't need anybody's help to make the playoffs. Be better than the other teams, they were in.
We don't have that luxury. I am convinced, unless we go undefeated, they find a way to leave us out.
We can relish being hated, but unfortunately with the crooked system we have, hated won't get us in the CFP.

It’s true that OSU lost to the only really good team they played this year. In 2014 they lost to a team that wasn’t even that good in Va Tech. Florida lost to a Mississippi State in 2008 that wasn’t very good Florida lost to a pretty good Auburn team early in 2006. Sometimes Urban Meyer teams lose early.

Sometimes that happens. Sometimes teams recover and play to their potential as the year progresses.

Too bad the '76 Raiders didn't need to win a popularity contest to get to the Superbowl. They just needed all of the Steelers' running backs to go down at the same time. But good point nonetheless.

You have to be pretty good to be at number 17. Michigan wasn't "bad" until we steamrolled them. I hope you could understand, based on recent history, that the media discrediting that win could very well be slight against Penn State.
Don't worry, beating UM will be a good win for OSU when they win that game by less than10. Suddenly UM will be great again. Similar to last year when we crushed Iowa and they were a bad team until UM lost to them.

This has been going on way longer than 2005. No team has been screwed more than Penn State over the years. How many other teams have multiple undefeated seasons without a NC? We should be used to it by now.

Exactly. OSU will win a squeaker against UM and it will be a great rivalry win. The UM-PSU game will by then be an aberration from the UM juggernaut facilitated by exceptional circumstances (white-out, a team hell-bent on revenge, inexperience of UM defense etc, ad nauseam)...

For me, I hope the refs aren't up to their usual shenanigans in our game this week.

See PSU87's post above. Spells it out rather well.

Doesn't spell much of anything out. We destroyed Michigan and should have. We had them at home during a white out. I've seen them play a bunch and their offense is horrible- Pitt like.

But who cares- most teams that get to the end aren't playing that many teams at the top during the season. I would say OSU and Wisconsin would be those teams for us this year.

I think you’re correct here (it’s getting settled in 4 days on the field ffs), but you’re getting the brunt of our frustration about the media’s “just wait til they play Michigan” and after we steamroll the nation’s #1 defense it’s “Michigan wasn’t that good cuz you blew them out.” After Herbie’s nonsensical “eyetest” bs last year we are sensitive about perceptions.
This. PSU was #2 and Michigan was #15 before the game. #2 should be expected to win decisively over #15, but when it happened, Michigan was dropped 10 places in one poll and 7 in the other. When #3 Oklahoma lost to an unranked Iowa State, they fell only 9 places in the coaches' poll. That sure looks like a "Michigan is worse than we thought" judgment rather than a "PSU is every bit as good as advertised" judgment.

I'm pretty sure the national media is asking who either team has played, which generally is nobody. But then again, neither has Alabama. The only teams out there with a chance that have decent resumes are TCU and (I shudder to say this) Notre Dame. That changes this weekend for both PSU and tOSU.

EDIT: Notre Dame's will be good and perhaps Georgia has a decent win over Notre Dame, depending on how they finish.
Didn't we just clobber Michigan? Last week their defense was supposed to be the '85 Bears. Today it's like we beat, oh I don't know, UNLV maybe.

OSU has played its schedule. OK was top 10 when OSU played them. What would you like them to do?[/QUOTE

I would have liked them to beat Oklahoma at home. If they had done that then a 1-loss Big Ten team would have had a much better chance of making the playoffs like Ohio state did last year. It would have benefited both of us but now the likelihood is that the only one loss team that can make the playoffs is the already one loss Buckeyes. If we take care of business at the Shoe on Saturday then none of this will matter....

OSU's problem is they have a lot of guys who are on the 3 year plan. The problem tends to rear its head early in the season. Too much player turnover. That's life.
