2 quick thoughts on this:
1) I always enjoy seeing these smaller colleges/universities get these kinds of upgrades. It’s one thing for a blue blood program to have these kinds of opportunities, it’s another for a smaller program like SDSU to be given this kind of opportunity.
2) Frank Kurtenbach is a really neat dude. His dad made him promise to take 2 years off after HS to help on the family farm. In that time he had numerous visits from the football and baseball coaches from SDSU. He eventually enrolled, was on scholarship for football and was convinced to join the wrestling team. After graduating, he was a biology teacher and coach for 16 years, then joined his brother Al at Daktronics (they make scoreboards/video boards for anyone from high schools to NFL franchises and Times Square companies) in 1979. He ended up working his way into being a board member for 29 years and VP of Daktronics for 20 of those years. His total gift pledge ended up being $2.5 million.
