Bo Bassett thread

Personally, I don't understand the big hype around Bassett. He's a good HS wrestler and I don't blame him for enjoying his moment in the sun while everyone is trying to obtain his commitment. But let's be real about things too. I remember about 6 - 7 years ago, everyone was on pins and needles waiting to see where a certain highly sought after PA wrestler would go, and it didn't turn out to be Penn State. He did become a decent college level competitor, but didn't do anything that was considered earth shaking. And on top of that, his participation didn't do anything to significantly boost the status of his selected college program.

So if Penn State lands Bassett, fine. But if we don't, I seriously don't think our overall program is going to be diminished in any way. Our coaching staff seems to do a better job than anyone else of getting the best out of the guys who do end up in blue and white.
To be more serious: I completely agree with the 2nd paragraph, but have some bones to pick with the 1at.

Spencer was a 3x NCAA champ. They don't grow on trees, even if it does seem so at PSU.

If Lee didn't boost Iowa, that's on Brands, Morningstar, and Bobby Telford ... from the University of Iowa. And that's irrelevant to Cael's recruiting.

Also, Bassett has wrestled a national-level schedule his entire HS career with 4 total regular decisions and no losses. Plus his international success.

Put aside the manufactured hype, and he's still among the very best prospects of the last decade. That doesn't automatically mean college success, but it does merit attention.

Or to put it a different way: Johnny Sebastian tried to manufacture hype too, and got a lot less attention. For a reason -- he wasn't remotely as good.

Football Harrison Wallace III to the SEC

it will be very telling if he does well there.
He's going to have to get separation from SEC cornerbacks, who probably are better as a group than Big 10 cornerbacks, and we all know that he almost never got sepration from them. Ole Miss under Kiffin has had really good, NFL caliber receivers, so there's a chance that he'll find some room if he plays because the cornerbacks will be covering better receivers more intently.

Other than his td against WVU, how many times did he catch a pass and run a long distance? He basically was a possession receiver for PSU, and when he did catch a pass there was a cornerback draped all over him. Like I said, I'm hopeful that we can get a comparable or better receiver in the portal in April, and we may already have gotten one or two.
