Playoff question for the board

Using your example, why should a USC team that has demonstrated that it's not as good as the numbers 1, 2 and 6 teams even get an opportunity to play for a so called national championship? Why should those number 1, 2 and 6 teams potentially have to beat that USC team again?
Losing to a team doesn't "demonstrate" that you aren't as good. The better team doesn't always win.
One game doesn't prove anything which is why they would have to

Basketball GAMEDAY THREAD: Penn State versus Fordham -- Preview, How To Watch and More

I guess basketball ratings are an inexact science at this point in the season. Updated Pomeroy rankings https://kenpom.com/ has PSU at #32, while the NET ratings by Warren Noland e has PSU at NET=86 (Live RPI = 79).

Both have Clemson (next opponent) ranked in the 30s, so this next game is a big opportunity for the Lions.
Today will give us a better idea of just how good we are or could be. Clemson is tall, experienced and talented. They start 3 guys 6'8" and taller, all are Jrs, Srs, or grad students. Basically the same team from the 24-12 team last season, so they will be a handfull.

Why do we always have so many injuries year after year under Franklin?

Much appreciated for you providing context (after the fact), but you still lack other teams information for comparison. You simply shared local, fan base focused pieces that lack data about other teams.

Injuries are common. I don't see us losing guys at any abnormal clip.
I mean anyone watching PSU football over the years know that we’ve had injury problems under Franklin but either people have memory problems or they are just in denial.

I’d like to see a little more attention to defense, because they’ve given up a lot of points in recent games and probably have become infatuated with playing Paul Westphal Loyola Marymount style offense, which probably will be a losing formula in Big 10 games.
Purdue FW just put up 87 against a fair Drexel team. Fordom is a decent team and we will learn how good when they face San Fran today, so the overall defense isn't bad. The part that worries me is giving up too many second chances.

Seth Ciasulli, the video creator, seems to know Tyler pretty well. He has some interesting comments about Tyler near the end of this video. We saw Tyler's ability to come through in big matches during his national tournament run last year. I wonder if that's something the coaches take into consideration when making the final decision on who will be the starter?

"Tyler has always been more of a gamer. He shows up big for matches when everything is on the line. You'd be surprised how often wrestlers are the opposite. I coached Tyler in State Finals in 7th grade when he pinned Conner Harer, who is & was a multiple time State Champion, in what was just a crazy event. Tyler's Dad & I just kind of looked at each other & shrugged & moved on."
He’s Tyler’s Uncle Youth Coach, IIRC.

SEC bloodbath

When the B1G beats up on itself and blows out Kent State & Elon, the conference is weak and they didn't play anyone.
When the SEC beats up on itself and blows out Florida A&M & Wafford, the conference is deep and they need the cupcake thrown in for reprieve from the difficult schedule.
Interesting how narratives can be defined so differently. Welcome to the world where one media base is critical of their teams, while the other media base are cheerleaders for their teams.
Say it enough and they'll believe it.

Playoff question for the board

If I were in charge I'd make the very unpopular decision to include ALL conference winners. That's 11 conference champs and maybe 3-5 additional at large spots to get to an even number. I'm not a huge fan of playoff byes so probably 5 at larges, 16 team team playoff. And in no world would I ever exclude an undefeated conference champ because of an injured player like what happened to FSU last year. Higher seeds host the first 2 rounds.

I know the powers that be would never agree to this though, so to compromise I'd probably take the champs from the P4, the top 2 ranked G5 champs, and 2 at large spots. 8 is a big enough field IMO. Top 4 teams host the first round.
So how are you picking the at large teams? And if the garbage conferences get into the tournament, why don’t some of the P4 teams just join a garbage conference so they can pretty much have an auto bid in every year?
