Other games of note...appetizers for tonight's main course

Notre Dame versus Navy in East Rutherford: Navy unbeaten and ranked but stepping up in class here. Notre Dame needs the W to keep playoff hopes alive...favored by 14 to get it.

Washington at Indiana: Huskies have one nice W (against Michigan) but haven't looked impressive on the road in the conference. (Fortunately, we get them in Happy Valley.) Indiana is surprisingly unbeaten and acting the part of a contender. Hoosiers favored by 5.5...still no Vegas respect for Indiana. (Rooting for Washington to pull the upset here.)

Illinois at Oregon: The Illini another conference surprise team with only the one loss we gave them but hard to see them beating an Oregon team that seems finally to be living up to its preseason billing. Ducks favored by 22 at home. (Would love to see Illinois somehow pull off a shocker.)

Missouri at Alabama: Loser of this one is likely eliminated from playoff contention. Tide favored by 16 at home.

LSU at Texas A&M: Tonight's other big matchup....with big-time playoff implications. Aggies favored by 1 at home. (Rooting for Aggies...and another Brian Kelly meltdown afterward.)
Which Washington team shows up will determine who gets the "W". I ndiana apparently playing their backup QB after starters surgery. Backup has good experience and Cignetti will gave his team ready. Has Washington solved their FG issues?

I don't see Illinois giving Oregon a game at home. Oregon wins easy. OU on a mission to play in B1G championship.

I think Alabama wins easy @ home. Missouri playing without their statistics QB.

LSU and Texas A&M definitely a toss up game. I think the Aggies win a very close game in Kyle Field.

ND Navy I think will be closer than the spread but ND seems to have found their stride so they win if they can build an early 10 pt lead. Navy is more diverse offensively than in past years abd if they can be effective mixing in their passing game for a few explosive plays, might see an upset.

U23 World Championships - Oct 21-27, 2024

the time you put in these events to relay the info to this board is underrated. even if it has been said 1,000 times before.
Thanks. Wrestling is the only sport I follow, so I'm usually watching the PSU matches anyway. It's been fun & I'm glad others enjoy it!

This is the first year I've paid much attention to Freestyle though, and I'm surprised by how much I've enjoyed watching it. I like the passivity calls & shot clock. That seems to help keep the action going. The dual 3-min periods is nice change of pace too. I've also become a fan of the Japanese team. I like their approach to & style of wrestling.

This is kind of an odd tournament for me. Mitch, Patrick Kennedy & Nic Bouzakis are the only wrestlers I recognize. I've never heard of the rest of the US team members before.

McCord literally throwing away the game against Pitt

Watched the game in the gym while working out without hearing the sound because of all the noise. The thing that stood out to me the most without hearing the commentary was how freakin well and hard they tackled. They physically kicked the living, physical crap out of Cuse ( and got a couple of gift calls).

I wouldn’t want to play them right now because to be honest, they strike me as being more physical and fast defensively than anyone we’ve played yet. They tackle like we used to years ago, and are one of the most fundamentally tough football teams I have seen this year (on defense).

WRT to schedules, have you seen the Big Ten Game lineup for this week?? Expansion has made a day like today exponentially better than it’s been in the past. Lots of great games today!
Interesting point about their defense. I guess I need to see it against Clemson or even SMU to get a better feel. McCord did look overwhelmed.
And yes this week's games are phenomenal

Prediction: Penn State 31 Wisconsin 10

Penn State is more than capable of beating Wisconsin by 14+ points. Wisconsin is getting a lot of smoke for their last 3 victories, this being a night game at Camp Randall and PSU previous performances coming off a bye week. The predictions of this being a close game or an upset are solely based on the presumption that PSU will be the same creature of the past. I'm not one to live in the past. There is nothing that has showed me that PSU should be on upset alert. Home field advantage is very important, but it's not that important if you don't have the talent to match with your opponent, Wisky does not have that talent. Wisky also allowed Purdue to have more total offense then them. Is Wisky capable of taking away Tyler Warren, and control the ground game at the same time. If Singleton is healthy i don't see that being possible. Wisky will not contain Warren with man coverage and be able to commit enough other resources to stop the run and contain the other receivers. I think it takes a quarter to get settled if at all. When the final whistle blows I think the score sits around 34-17. Wisky gets exposed we march onto Ohio State...

Agreed, we're capable of winning big. It's a question of playing to our full potential. I'm not sure we've done that yet this season.

But sometimes a win of the kind we got at USC breaks a team through. In fact, if you look at some of our great teams of the past, you'll typically see a game during the season that we could have lost...should have lost...almost lost...but found a way to win. USC was hopefully that game for this year's team.

We'll find out this evening.

Prediction: Penn State 31 Wisconsin 10

Jerry - you predict 31-10 and you claim you are nervous? I'm going with 24 - 17 with Wisconsin driving at the end. Now that's nervous! lol...

Wouldn't shock me if it were to play out that way.

Honestly, it wouldn't shock me to win by only a field goal.

It would shock me if Wisconsin won this game.

See, I'm trying to cover all bases here... ;)

Dodgers vs Yankees World Series

So easy to second guess after the fact.
It’s a player’s game. The influence managers have on the outcome is a slim fraction of the influence by players.
Cortes missed his spot by a smidge. Freeman didn’t miss with his swing. It went the other way just one pitch earlier.
If Freeman is off by just a bit, it’s a fly ball to right and everyone is saying “What a great move. Nestor retired two MVPs on two pitches.”
The names in the boxscore decided the game, not the managers. If you know the game, you know the diving stop by the LA shortstop to save a run was a more important play than the grand slam that ended it.
Players decide the game and managers decide who the players are. Bringing in a player who hasn't pitched in over a month was a dumb move. Managers can't win a game but they can surely lose one. Boone made a bad decision bringing in a starter who hadn't pitched in over a month.
