Football Penn State / Wisconsin on 10/26 will be a 7:30pm Kickoff

I don’t know if I would go that far, but there is room for improvement for sure and I don’t think it is a talent issue.
I mean, just look at the long td run by USC in the first quarter. That play was so badly defended on so many levels, including Carter turning his back to the play. And speaking about Carter, is it just I, or am I crazy to think that he could be an AA middle linebacker rather than playing at end. It just seems that this defense plays its best when he plays in the middle or as a rover, which usually only happens in the second half once adjustments are made. I just don't think that he's a natural end like a Chop Robinson.

This may be a team in which you're just not going to see an A+ game. At this point, I would settle for this defense becoming a more disciplined and fundamentally sound unit because, despite their second half performances, this is one of the most undisciplined and fundamentally unsound defenses that PSU has had in a long time.

Like to see A+ game at some point.
This may be a team in which you're just not going to see an A+ game, but you can say that about almost every team. I mean, just look at the Bama-UGA game, in which each team was dominant for a half. At this point, I would settle for this defense becoming a more disciplined and fundamentally sound unit because, despite their second half performances, this is one of the most undisciplined and fundamentally unsound defenses that PSU has had in a long time.

Ohio State vs Oregon

Yes. Day has a team that is very well resourced and very talented. He recruits very well. He wins when he has a big talent edge on the opponent (which is often). Day generally does not win the big games against an opponent who has as much or nearly as much talent as he has. Personally, I think Day is a great recruiter, runs a scandal-free program, but is not a good game coach. Are standards high for an OSU football coach? Yes. But he knew that when he took the job. It probably can be hard on one's mental health. I think Urban Meyer discovered that.
The idea that they would fire him and get somebody better is ridiculous. People forget that Urban Meyer lost several games to far below competition and that Ryan day has never lost a game to an inferior opponent. USC and LSU are learning that if you just hire a coach with what looks like a good resume, there's no guarantee of success. The players love playing for him and his results have been quite good. I think OSU is very lucky to have him.

One indication of the value he has to Ohio State is that CJ Stroud, one of the classiest and most skilled football players around, said that he loved every minute that he was at Ohio state. People should compare days first five or six years to those of Jim harbaugh.

Agreed but I am still not sure how good Wiscy is this year. They put up a lot of points on Purdue and Rutgers to appear to be improving. But Those two teams are not great football teams. Purdue has given up 66, 38, 52, and 50 in games this year.

Rutgers was a one-loss team but has only played Howard, Akron, VT (won by 3), Washington (won by 3), and Nebraska before losing to Wiscy.

I think Wisconsin is a FG better than Illinois. Now, anything can happen especially at an away night game in cold weather. I think this is a stiff test but if we bring our B+ game, we'll be OK>

Ohio State vs Oregon

Klatt says a bad call cost tOSU the game

I was going to make a separate post about this concerning all the complaints about poor, biased officiating on this board as though Penn State was selectively victimized.. Of course, there were several awful calls in a game with OSU five or six years ago. On the other hand, OSU has also been victimized. In particular against Clemson a scoop and grab by Jordan Fuller was returned for a touchdown and the officials call was overruled even though the Clemson player took two or three steps with the ball.

In this case, not only was the offensive interference call questionable but according to Klatt, there was obvious holding by Oregon on the previous play. If either play had been called differently there is something like an 85 or 95% chance OSU would have won the game.

On my end, the loss is not that big of a deal because Ohio State lost their left tackle who is by far the best offensive lineman on osu. I don't think that they can win a national championship without him. If they don't win a national championship the season is a failure. Hopefully, OSU curb stomps Michigan and there will be something for Ohio State fans to be happy about.

Is the grass always greener? Franklin haters would think so

I will say it again, winning football games is hard. Really hard. And James Franklin has won a lot of them. Maybe there is a better coach out there for PSU if we get rid of him but I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen. Tons of blue blood programs end up in the coaching carousel for a decade or more because they believe the answer to their problems lies in another head coach.

Nebraska is a great example. Nebraska hasn't had a coach even come close to Be Pelini who was 67-27 (.713 win percentage) while at Nebraska who coached his last game for them in 2014.

Mike Riley: 19-19
Scott Frost: 16-31
Mickey Joseph: 3-6
Matt Rhule: 10-8 (the verdict is still out on Rhule).

If Matt Rhule can turn the program around it will have taken a decade for the Cornhuskers to be competitive again and multiple head coaches. Do we want to go through a stretch like Nebraska has gone through? I don't and I am not positive if we bring in someone else that this won't be us. It is certainly a risk.

The truth of the matter is that given the amount of potential loss to graduation and the NFL at the end of this year, Franklin may want to move on. That said, if all those that can stick around do stick around, the 2025 squad might be pretty damn good.

Football Penn State / Wisconsin on 10/26 will be a 7:30pm Kickoff

The start time is actually better than a noon kickoff, which would have been a disadvantage for PSU. All opposing venues in the Big Ten are a disadvantage, Camp Randall is no different.

Alabama beat them badly, and USC did the same after their worst half of football in the first half. They are a good football team but there was a reason their starter at QB was in there. The backup is basically a slightly less effective version of Altmeyer. Again, no excuses here. The night start is not "disaster" in the makings, if PSU comes out and plays it's game. The fear in here is a bit over the top. If you are a playoff team you go in to Camp Randall and win. Period.
I agree, just like USC was a quality team across two time zones with their back against the wall , test passed. Now we play another good team at night in a hostile environment, another good test to see how good this team really is.

Football Warren & Barker earn multiple national honors

Penn State’s Tyler Warren and Ryan Barker need to make some room on their trophy shelves after each racking up multiple national honors this week.

Next National Champ.

Basketball does not need a week to recover. Football will end up playing an extra month. That will be another month worth of injuries too.

Football never should have been more than 8 with the 5 Power conferences each getting an automatic bid.
Now we are down to 4 and it should be the winner of each conference. It will be very simple and sweet. Forget the 1aa schools. If they want to join a power conference then that is up to them. Playing a bunch of 1aa schools does not merit a playoff spot.
We're already past 8...it will never go down. 20 is where we end up if not 24 barring a two conference league. The Big Ten/SEC proposal is for 14 in 2 years with them getting 4 auto bids.
I don't understand why we're ignoring what works in FCS
