Peter and Ann Tombros commit $26 MM to PSU.

Will cover many areas. See the link below. Highlights from the article:

“UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Peter and Ann Tombros, longtime philanthropic and volunteer leaders for Penn State, have made a new commitment of $26 million that places them among the top five donors in the University's history. Their new gifts, which will come through their estate and their family foundation, will benefit programs across Penn State and create a University-wide endowment to fuel innovation and encourage other alumni and friends to support the institution.”

And,

“Through their new commitment, the Tombroses will create a first-of-its-kind fund for the University’s top leadership. The Peter and Ann Cullen Tombros Endowment will provide the Penn State President, guided by an advisory board of University leaders including the executive vice president and provost, the senior vice president for business and finance, and the vice president for development and alumni relations, with support that can be used to supply seed grants for pilot initiatives; foster philanthropy and volunteering among the Penn State community; and encourage other donors to support the University by providing matching funds for their gifts.”

And,

“As fans of Penn State men’s basketball, the Tombroses are endowing the men’s basketball coach position, establishing a fund that will allow the Peter and Ann Tombros Head Coach to enhance opportunities for student-athletes through scholarships, travel, equipment, and other needs.”

Will the Big 10 ever rebalance their divisions?

Of course it’s all cyclical but the East and West remain horribly imbalanced. Having OSU, PSU, Michigan and Michigan State all on the same side is so absurd. Fine, they want to keep OSU and Michigan on the same side, but do some shifting around. In the West only Wisconsin has been consistently pretty good. Iowa, Nebraska and Northwestern are all mediocre programs with only Nebraska having a strong history.

So, will they ever rebalance?

Three O coordinates in three years does not help QB recruiting….

However I think we have the right guy now based on current commitments. I understand why Levis wanted to transfer and given the new rules how do you convince him to stay. He wanted to start and got his wish. We missed on some guys, but recruiting a kid is a process that develops over several years. Any coaching changes will have some ripple effect. However it was the right move to change coordinators last year and the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

most significant plays of the Iowa game

obviously the plays that caused injury to SC and PJ were at top of the list, but a few others came into play.

  • All the punts inside the 10 yd line with some in the 2-3 yd line area. What are the chances that a punter is going to be able to hit that type of punt so many times. There has to be some pure luck in doing it every time.
  • The chop block call, which looked marginal, set off a major shift to field position, as it was followed by IP calls and another punt from end zone.
  • TCF missed tackle on a FR WR was very big play. That should have been a short gain.
  • missed assignment on the TD pass, although it did not look like the Iowa player scored. My guess is they may have scored off that series, but you never know (remember our 3 TDs called back plus a Pat TD overturned on one series = wound up as FG for us).

Snyder pins Iowa loss on staff

From her Athletic article:

Roberson’s inability to lead the offense Saturday brings into question Penn State’s long-term issues with the No. 2 quarterback position. This was the void coaches wanted to fill in the offseason via the transfer portal, to bring in someone who could push Clifford and who, at the very least, could add experience to a room where there are just three scholarship quarterbacks (one is true freshman Christian Veilleux). Franklin said they had options via the portal but kept searching for the right fit. The staff failed to add anyone. This loss falls on them.
