What are your thoughts on why after 85, 86

And playing for back to back NCs including winning a game of the century that Penn State didn't vault into the stratosphere as a program.
I lived through this time period but when you're living something sometimes you miss things that appear obvious down the line.
- Was it the staffs age? Most of these guys had been around for 20 plus years. I know we were pretty good in 91 but Joe usually closed the deal in the past when he had talent.
- was it motivation? I remember Joe saying in 89 he had lost his mojo after the 86 season.
- did the style of play in college football change which hurt us defensively. I think we've all agreed Penn State was not a great defensive team in the 90s.
You just wonder because in today's age when these teams make the playoffs it seems to elevate their program to where they are competing for the playoffs every year.
Anyway not complaining but I always wondered why we didn't become an absolute juggernaut after 86.

Need some traffic advice for Baltimore/DC area

So have to drive down to a wedding in Raleigh, NC area over Memorial day weekend. Plan on driving down from Philly area on 95 leaving on Thursday morning. I know historically that the Baltimore to DC and around the beltway can be horrible in rush hour. So questions......I know traffic in general has lightened up due to Covid, is that traffic down there still as bad? If I wanted to miss that traffic, what time do I have to get to let's say the top of the beltway North of DC not to hit the worst of it.

OT: Worst celebrity your looks have been compared to

Took my son to a trampoline park birthday party today (unmasked and indoors, crazy how odd it seemed, like I was smoking in the bathroom in high school).

Anyway, the father of one of his friends is talking to me on and off. Eventually he walks over and says "I'm sure you've heard this before, but you look a lot like Stanley Kubrick."

No man...no I haven't gotten that before. But I am going to make a lot of changes in my life tomorrow.

FC/OT: Keegan Michael Key SNL?

Did anyone see this live? I DVR'd it in DC and it wasn't shown - at all - because of the Caps game going into overtime (nice to see my pal TJ Oshie get the assist on the winning goal though). I saw a few clips on social media but wanted to watch the whole thing. How did he do? Is he the first PSU alum to host? Thought this was pretty funny despite not being masochistic enough to watch the actual ESPn documentary....

Silly Rumors Season

Posted on another site less than 36 htmrs ago. Any bite to the Beard rumor? Would make sense adding Dean at 197.

“Figured it's easier to streamline this on a single thread. Here's what I got so far. Please add. Want to see what comes to fruition.”

- Wick to Cal Poly
- Griffith joining his sister at PSU
- Beard is getting knee surgery
- Suriano going back to PSU (yup, silly, but it's out there)
- Austin Gomez talking w/Iowa

Any others of note?

Van Ness + many others at Ultimate Club Duals today

Going on right now in State College.

Massive talent on-site, list of Willie's ranked guys here (note, does not include the Bassetts because they're not yet in HS):

OT: A&E Biography Series on WWE/WWF stars

I am not ashamed to to say that I was a WWF/WCW/ECW fan back in the 90’s and very early 2000’s until the WWE bought the WCW and then i was done with it.

This A&E series on the back story of some of the icons is excellent. The stories are hard and you really get a behind the camera of what these guys/girls had to endure to get to the top.

Norden Bombsight: Put a bomb in a pickle barrel at 20,000 ft altitude.

I know there is a lot of history and WW II buffs on here so the post. I was just watching Weaponology on the American History Channel. The "expert used the pickle barrel quote. I thought I'd google Norden and try and see how this game changer worked. Interesting article.

Driving through some old PA towns today...

Grew up in King of Prussia, mall town in the 70s. I'm 57 now and have lived all over the country.

Live just south of Gettysburg now. Anyway, was on business trip this week. Started in Erie, and traveled my way south east through some really cool old PA towns. Corry, Clarion, New Bethlehem, Ridgeway on my way to I80 around State College and back home to the glut of 322 in Harrisburg and down to Maryland.

As I passed through all these towns, I looked at the landscape, and wondered what it was like growing up in these great PA towns...most have seen their heydays, but really great architecture and culture/history.

Any of you who grew up in these great old PA towns, did you feel this is were you were meant to be, or did you want to get out asap?

I felt kind of sad seeing vacancy on my route.

Pennsylvania is a great state!
