Something unexplainable happened...long story.

In early December my son asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told him that I would like a new wallet. Being the considerate son he is he goes out and buys 2 wallets for me to pick from. I picked one and instead of having him take the other back I bought it from him and decided that I would give it to my brother for his Birthday....which is tomorrow. My wife said..you never give a wallet without money in it. Being the cheapskate I am I put 20 bucks in. So you know, the wallet I kept was the less expensive of the two. Now I was concerned that maybe he doesn't need a new wallet. Maybe he likes the one he has. So I put the receipt in the wallet. In case you wanted to return it for something else. Second week of December I wrapped it for his Birthday...tomorrow. Flash forward to yesterday. I called my brother ( who lives about 10 mile from me) to chat. In the conversation he brings up that on Saturday he lost his wallet. Say what? I am thinking to myself...are you kidding me? He explains how he is going to have to go out and get a new driver's license etc. etc. This morning he calls me and tells me that when he went out to get his paper there was a package next to the paper. Inside was everything he had in his wallet except for the money and the wallet. How strange is that? Tomorrow he gets a new wallet and $20 nicely wrapped and ready for him since last month. Today I bought lotto.

OT for AKB: Barcelona Travel

My son is spending this semester in Barcelona through the PSU program with EIS (European International School). My wife, son and I are traveling over in late March to visit him.

Questions for anyone who's been to Spain and even better, Barcelona:

1) Are we better off renting a car for the week (they are dirt cheap) or relying on public transit, uber, etc. Is it reasonably safe to drive?

2) Any recommendations for reasonable hotels in safe areas?

3) Better off staying IN Barcelona or somewhere in the 'burbs?

4) Found a GREAT looking beachfront apartment in Castelldefels. Safe area? It looks like a 20-30 min commute to Barcelona, and 35 mins to EIS.

5) Any other thoughts, pointers, recommendations?

Rahne building staff at ODU

Old Dominion has announced several members of Ricky Rahne's new staff and it unsurprisingly includes several former PSU staffers.

Kirk Campbell -- Offensive analyst at Penn State, OC/QB coach at ODU
Kevin Smith -- Defensive GA at Penn State, STC/OLBs at ODU
Kevin Reihner -- Offensive GA at Penn State, OL coach at ODU
Mark Dupuis -- Offensive GA at Penn State, WR coach at ODU

Tony Lucas -- RB/STC at Elon, RB coach at ODU

Football Scoop reported that WVU's ILB coach Blake Seiler will be Rahne's DC.

Way OT: Kelly Ripa's husband stomps onto son's HS wrestling match

So It looks like a slow Sunday, so a little trash. Unfortunately in these cases, no one is more embarrassed then the kid whose parent acted like the jack ass. The "protected kid" would have been much better off with his peers and his own ego if the helicopter parent did not swoop into the scene. What the heck was this guy thinking, or more than likely not thinking ?

OT: Teenage boys should be urged to lift.

I really wish I had not wasted so much time running in my younger days. Lifting is what I should have been doing all along. For teens, this is a no-brainer, spending an hour in an activity where you can measure your progress every day. At a gym you hang around impressive people who work hard at life. You learn to push yourself consistently and to define success by how much you've improved.

Push the mathematics and push the gym and your son will be ready to make a difference when it's his time.

Anyone do jungle hikes

Going to Costa Rica soon and then plan to go to some other Central American countries in the near future. Not going to do any crazy stuff, but want to be comfortable on any excursions in the jungle.

What clothing and hiking gear (type of boots) came in handy? What would you have left behind?

I have a lot of gear for temperate hiking and hiking in hot, dry climates, but not hot, humid, very rainy, mosquitoey climates.

Cost not a huge consideration - I like splurging for gear and plan to do multiple trips
