What Rules Changes Would You Like To See?

Serious question, for when the NCAA Wrestling Committee visits our humble forum .

Rule changes are MOSTLY made every 2 years. The current "Rules and Interpretations" goes through the end of 2016-17, so a new publication will be made around July, 2017...for years 2017-18 and 2018-19.

I'd like to see;
1) A 3-point takedown (leave a reversal at 2)
2) Elimination of the tie-breaker period. Let the wrestlers settle a match on their feet with a series of sudden victory 2-minute periods.

Other reasonable suggestions?

It has been a week since our Board meeting was held on the campus of Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Leading up to that meeting I had every intention of either abstaining or voting against Ira Lubert, the only candidate for Chairman of the Board to succeed Keith Masser. I have known Ira for some years before I was elected as an alumni trustee two years ago. He had disappointed me in the past by not standing up with those of us who have been working very hard to learn the truth behind the Sandusky scandal and the charges against Graham Spanier, Tim Curley, Gary Schultz and of course, the dismissal of legendary head football Coach Joe Paterno. Like my other colleagues elected by the alumni, I have worked hard reviewing the Freeh Report, the vehicle that was used by the NCAA to sanction the University. Later Louis Freeh said that his conclusion in many areas was only his opinion. Wow!

I had the opportunity in Executive Session to ask candidate (the only one for Chairman) Lubert many questions about the past as well as the future. It was in the Executive Session that all trustees had the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates. I asked Ira some pretty tough questions so I could cast a fair and intelligent vote. I learned things I was unaware of from his responses. He convinced the nine of us that he would be a fair, impartial and inclusive Chairman. Now it is time to use the power he now has to be inclusive. I was very pleased to see his very first action as Chairman was to appoint Alumni Trustee Al Lord to the Executive Committee, an excellent choice. I hope that is just the beginning of bringing members of our talented alumni contingent into influential positions. There is much we can accomplish if he uses the power we helped give him for the good of Penn State and not just a chosen few. It is hard to believe, but there are only five "old guard" members of the Board left who voted to fire Joe and began spilling political blood on November 9, 2011.

Time will answer all questions. Chairman Lubert has a tremendous opportunity to make change. I wish him well and will be watching to see if my faith in him was justified. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions you have.

Which past, or current, PSU FB player has been your favorite?

I know this is a very open ended question without any qualifiers on how to make your choice; but you can state your reason for why you make your selection. My overall favorite is John Cappiletti as he is still the only Heisman Trophy winner from Penn State, I was at Penn State when Cappy was and got to see him run through holes and opposing defenders, and he is genuinely one of the most grounded players to wear a PSU uniform!

When's the shoe gonna drop? We are waiting and waiting and waiting...

--A9 Trustee Freeh review

Bad news. Alcohol is a direct cause of 7 types of cancer.

Alcohol causes seven forms of cancer, and people consuming even low to moderate amounts are at risk, according to new analysis.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/jul/22/alcohol-direct-cause-seven-forms-of-cancer-study

Combine this with the debilitating impairment of alcohol that causes 1000s of deaths per year and is there anyone who can make a legitimate argument why pot is still illegal while alcohol is legal?

Why are people still losing their jobs, Le'Veon Bell, and going to jail for something that causes so little harm? Why is it still listed as a schedule 1 narcotic with the likes of heroin, cocaine and LSD?

Feathers is lying about Second Mile

I'm not buying what Randy Feathers is saying about a comprehensive investigation.
Kane has clearly stated on camera that she did not inherit any investigation into Second Mile. There has been ZERO follow up the past 4 years from every single media member I've spoken to, except for Will Bunch doing a piece on Lynne Abraham back in December 2014.

Because he thinks Abraham is a fraud and could pitch that to his editors.

And, while we are at it, let’s take a moment to cover some of the high points regarding the "settlements":

1 – PSU (via the secret Ira Lubert committee) pays out $3,000,000 per CLAIMANT…..Catholic Church, nationwide, average payment per VICTIM under $200,000

And, yes, there is a HUGE difference between a VICTIM and a CLAIMANT

2 – In the Catholic Church case, the VICTIMS pursued criminal complaints against Church leaders, took them to court, and the Church leaders were found GUILTY of aiding and abetting the Pedophile Priests……in the PSU case, not a single PSU affiliated individual has EVER been convicted of anything – and, in fact, the only meaningful charges against PSU folks (Curley, Schultz, and Spanier) have been dismissed out of hand due to prosecutorial misconduct wrt even having the indictments brought.

3 – The large majority of the CLAIMANTS who received payouts of PSU funds (thanks to Ira Lubert) never even filed criminal complaints against SANDUSKY (let that sink in for a moment), let alone showed any liability on the part of Penn State.

4 - Many of the CLAIMANTS (more than a dozen?) didn't even have a prima facia case - - - - since the Statute of Limitations had long since expired.

Why the ginormous settlements?

Well……it doesn’t take a savant to read the settlement agreements, and have a pretty good idea as to “Why”.

From the settlement documents, whereby the CLAIMANTS agreed to certain conditions in return for their multi-million dollar payoffs:

“Moreover, the Releasor [the Sandusky Abuse Claimant] promises not to sue.......The Second Mile.....any past, present, or future: employee, officer, director, trustee......of [The Second Mile]”

And who might be among those 2nd Mile folks – the folks who received a “get out of jail free” card, thanks to Ira’s use of Penn State’s money?……..

Jack Raykovitz, and his wife Kitty Genovese (the directors of the 2nd Mile)

Our old friend Bruce Heim - the leader of the 2nd Mile Board – and the fellow who ADMITTED to quashing the reports of Sandusky’s inappropriate conduct

and, lest we forget

Dear Mr Lubert - - - 2nd Mile Board member (although Ira seems to have developed some amnesia in that regard) and the man who sponsored 2nd Mile sleepover camps - “Challenge Camps” - at his Green Hills Camp facility in Southeastern PA.

Anyone who can’t see what Ira Lubert was buying, would have to be among the most oblivious and ignorant bipeds to ever walk the Earth

And this man thinks he is qualified to be the Chairman of the PSU Board of Trustees?

And he most likely WILL BE the next Chairman of the PSU Board of Trustees.

Which of those two sentences is scarier?

PS4RS Memo to the PSU BOT on Chairman Election.

To: Pennsylvania State University Board of Trustees
From: Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship
c.c: Governor Tom Wolf; Auditor General Eugene DePasquale; Solicitor General Bruce Castor
Date: July 19, 2016
Re: Chairman Election

The leadership of Penn State has been under intense national scrutiny for nearly five full years. Rumors, accusations and unsupported conclusions -- but very few proven facts -- have divided our community and unfairly damaged the reputation of our fine university.

While Penn State’s liability remains unclear, one fact is indisputable: Jerry Sandusky used The Second Mile to gain access to every single one of his accusers. Just last week, that fact was reinforced in every claimant’s deposition related to the PMA Insurance case. Furthermore, the PA Solicitor General has undertaken a review of the activities and liability of The Second Mile. And, in a separate filing, Penn State indicated it plans to seek settlement funds from The Second Mile, asserting it was in a position to stop and prevent Sandusky from abusing children and negligently failed to do so.

The noose is tightening around The Second Mile… and with very good reason.

So, then, in evaluating candidates for the next Chairman of the Penn State Board of Trustees, we make this obvious -- but emphatic -- appeal: Please disqualify Ira Lubert, the candidate with deep, far-reaching and questionable ties to The Second Mile.

  • Mr. Lubert previously served as a Director of The Second Mile from 2005 to 2008.
  • Mr. Lubert has a track record of significant donations to The Second Mile, including in-kind usage of his own Green Hills Camp facility in Reading, PA.
  • Mr. Lubert left the Penn State board after serving from 1997-2000 and returned as a Governor’s appointee in 2007-2014. During that time, he presided over the initial round of settlement claims worth $60 million. He then returned to the board in 2015 as a Business and Industry trustee.
  • Despite a clear conflict of interest, Mr. Lubert served as chair of the Legal Subcommittee that oversaw the settlements that Penn State disbursed to claimants against Jerry Sandusky. This committee failed to coordinate with Penn State’s insurer, yet another error that is causing further financial and reputational damage to Penn State. Furthermore, this committee has failed to adequately pursue claims against The Second Mile, the organization that was truly responsible for Sandusky’s interactions with children.

Electing a Penn State Board Chairman so closely connected to The Second Mile will certainly NOT move Penn State forward. Rather, it will severely set us back and only raise more questions that threaten to even further compromise the integrity of Penn State and its leadership.

Instead, we urge you to consider supporting Governor’s Appointee Dr. Robert Capretto as 2016-2017 Chairman. Dr. Capretto is eminently qualified, engaged and poised to lead. Moreover, through his words and actions, he has already demonstrated his ability to unify, not just the Board of Trustees, but the many loyal stakeholders of Penn State. That quality in a Chairman is not only essential; it is long overdue.

Thank you for your consideration.

Going to DC tomorrow and then Baltimore! Safe????

If any of you know DC or are police officers, etc. What do you think about the safety right now? I am going with my wife and 4 yr old. We had plans for a few months. In DC, we are around Chinatown at the Renaissance Hotel.

We would then go to Baltimore Sunday-Tue. Again, do you think it is safe? Any Baltimore police officers?
Any help would be appreciated! In B-more, we are staying right at Inner Harbor @ the Renaissance. Thank you!

Phila. Inquirer Editorial about Letterman, JoePa statue, etc.

I had to read this editorial three times to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Editorial pieces from papers with large circulations should, and in most cases are, well crafted, and even if you disagree with them you have to admit they make a strong argument. In this case, I don't find the editorial to be well thought out, or making any type of cogent argument.

For the most part, even editorials that I disagree with are written in a manner that would make them difficult for even Law Review students to challenge. With this article, I think it would be batting practice for L1 law students to address, and even pretty easy for most college students to take apart. Heck, this editorial wouldn't even be that difficult, IMHO, for high school debate team students to defeat.

You can read it at THIS LINK. Let me know if you think my analysis is faulty.

Back from Columbus - scandal feedback story

Business meeting with an OSU Engineering professor yesterday with a PSU tie on and drew immediate remarks that "PSU is back in the news" and "now 'we'/OSU is involved!" Oh the calamity I thought!

I simply told him that if he believed that a man like Joe Paterno would cover up such horrid things then perhaps OSU needed to get rid of Sciano immediately since now he was similarly accused! Of course, he felt that Sciano could not possible do such a thing (I assume because he was now employed by OSU?!). And I said, "now you know how PSU alums/fans have felt for past 5 years!"

We then talked about this year's game in Happy Valley and he expressed concern about going - citing the 'rough-edged behavior PSU crowds.' To which I chuckled and advised him that PSU was recognized nationally as having one of the best or close to the best home crowd as far as hospitality. I tried to assure him that I have traveled to many, many venues and have found this to be true.

Now remember this is a highly educated, tenured OSU Engineering prof I was meeting with - not some student or casual fan.

Good grief!
