My 2 cent, the B10 leaking the idea of cancelling the season to the media...

What is nagging at me is the B10 leaking the idea of cancelling the fall football season to the media to gauge the reaction. They knew what it would be, but went ahead and cancelled it anyway. I also never underestimate the greed and ego of people in power.

1) greed - That is a huge about of money they are giving up not playing in the fall, do they really think they can pull off a spring season? Maybe the Pac12 plays in the spring also and the rose bowl is the *NC game, there will be TV revenue for games played and the Pac12 will finally have a team in the playoffs (lol) but logistically can they pull it off? Who knows.

2) ego - I'm sure most college presidents/powers that be, think they are always the smartest guy in the room. Is there a game within the game they are trying to play? Allowing teams to continue to practice, WTF? If the SEC, Big12, ACC play and the B10 suddenly agree to some type of fall season due to "new info available" or some excuse, they will look like saviors, heroes to many the media may even paint it as "leadership" change the decision based on "new info", but they will continue to be idiots to most here regardless.

I just wouldn't be surprised they the B10 is playing some type of game within the game with the fans, media and players which they will never admit on the record if true. Just have to wait and see how it plays out....

peace :)

75 years ago today...August 14, 1945

85 million dead - roughly 3.5% of world's population. Equivalent to 266 million today. In the last 75 years the world has thus far not fought another interstate conflict on such a scale. A case could be made that we now fight regional proxy wars due to the threat of nuclear weapons. Time will tell how much longer reason and restraint hold up. I believe strongly we will be in a hot war with China in five years.

Reality

Without question, I am saddened by the fact that there will be no Fall football. It is something I always look forward to, particularly PSU. But as much as the players , coaches and fans want football, there is a reality that cannot be overlooked. 160,000 Americans have succumbed to this horror within a period of six months. That is frightening and the prospect of 300,000 is being predicted as a real possibility! The possibility of death overrides my enthusiasm. I would not want fan enthusiasm or the financial needs of our institution to result in the infection/illness or even death of any of our student athletes. And, if we were to proceed with the season, think of the liability issues that could arise if student athletes get seriously ill or tragically succumb to the virus.

I also find it interesting that the SEC and ACC are not yet willing to follow the lead. Yet, they represent the very geographical areas where the virus has been rampant because of ignoring reality for seemingly political reasons. Go figure.

Further, I also find it interesting that there seems to be no talk about the student athletes attending class and continuing with their education. I have heard statements such as: they can continue to use the facilities and train - but no mention of being students. Maybe I missed it.

I will miss the games and the whiteout. But this shall pass. But we msut do the right thing until the virus is dealt with successfully.

Just my ramblings.

We Are

Today in history- 1964

The FBI found the bodies of three murdered civil rights workers buried in a dam site in Mississippi.

A less known part of this well known incident is that the information leading to their recovery came from Gregory Scarpa, also known as the Grim Reaper, who was a capo in the Columbo crime family in New York. He kidnapped a KKK member who had been involved in the murders and convinced him to give up the location of the bodies.

OT: Interesting stat on U.S. deaths...

Obviously, the numbers are all pre-covid:

Total Deaths

The total number of deaths in the United States increased from 2.4 million in 2009 to 2.8 million in 2017. An increase in deaths can indicate an aging population and/or an underlying public health issue. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the three leading causes of death in 2017 were heart disease, cancer, and accidents, such as motor vehicle accidents and accidental poisonings (drug overdose).

yesterday took a short road trip - very depressing

wife and I took a short vac trip and visited an outdoor shopping center. this is a place that is really nice with lots of national name brand stores and several places to eat. it was a dystopia like some kind of sci fi movie. several stores closed for good - a few were open but limited hours. AMC movies shutdown. We were able to park about anywhere we wanted. Very few people walking around. It was actually shocking how bad this was.

AKB - Assistance - "Take a Year Off"

High and mighty AKB - I have a question about my daughters path.

She is a senior to be in Environment Engineering. Overall she does okay but I'm not sure she is quite ready for the real world. When the news of football being cancelled came out, my son-in-law mentioned she should 'take a year off and work' - so it was said sort of tic.

HOWEVER, I thought about it more and I'm thinking of chatting with her about the possibilities.....

I've heard of this concept but since I was pregnant between my Soph and Jr years and soon to be married to my soon-to-be ex-wife it was never an option for me to even consider - even though I surely was NOT ready for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (nor a baby) either at that time.

So I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this and can offer any advice. Also have some more specific questions like:

* how does it work with the university - is it easy to unenroll and then re-enroll next year;

* what about a job - what kind of job could she/would she look for in this field (and in this environment);

* I know there is a 6 month lag for student loans but wondering, with Covid, if they will be extended longer and she may not have to worry about that while she takes a year off.

Any other anecdotal information would be appreciated.

Thank You

Not a good day!

Between gov wolf reccomemdation of no sports until 2021 and the ridiculous psu season ticket options I'm not having a good day. As a football coach and a dad to a varsity football player there is a somber depressed atmosphere here at the farm. If there is no football this will be the first August since 94 I won't have a whistle around my neck. :( my son is/Will be devasted as football is "his" sport.

One bright spot our conference lhac has voted to move ahead with football with a two week delay. Even though they had heard the govs press conference. I'm afraid that this will be short lived as the PIAA or the gov will officially shut it all down soon.

Worst Concert/Show/Movie/Play you ever saw...

because we need some content on this board....

Worst (most disappointing) concert - Van Halen Spectrum 1981. They were just out of it, and the audio was bad. I was 16 and it was a waste. Really disappointed. I know they have done a lot of great shows but that one was just bad.

Worst Movie - The Birdcage. I know it's a remake of La Cage Aux Folles, and had Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, Gene Hackman. But it was just boring. May be the only movie I ever walked out on.
