OT: A modest request...Can we stop mocking the French now....

...on both this board and the test board?

I know everybody today is in support of the French and the losses they have had overnight.

Can we continue being as sympathetic to them going forward. They have blood in these matters, just as we and many other nations do.

Thanks for your consideration of this request in advance.

OT: Family restaurants in State College?

Will be visiting Penn State this weekend with the extended family and we're a party of eight (plus two toddlers). Staying at the NLI and hoping to spend Saturday walking the town and around campus (back to VA on Sunday). We're thinking of Whiskers for lunch and then no idea for dinner. We can drive wherever but want something family friendly. Any ideas? And thanks in advance!

Garban, Surma, Alexander, Allan, Arnelle, Broadhurst, Clemens, Corbett,

Dambly, Deviney, DiBerardinis, Eckel, Erickson, Frazier, Greig, Hayes, Hetherington, Hintz, Huber, Jones, Joyner, Khoury, Lubert, Masser, Myers, Peetz, Riley, Shaffer, Silvis, Strumpf, Suhey, and Tomalis. (I apologize for any omissions or inaccuracies). Always remember who they were, and what they did, on November 9, 2011.

Four years to the day of the JoePa beheading. How's that working out for us?

I'm honestly curious what others here think. Granted most are still angry over some aspect of this but let's narrow things.

We've had our 'time to sit back and reflect' and I'd like to know if anyone thinks what Surma, Kenny and Peetz did four years ago has had any positive or negative results.

Fire away on the merits or drawbacks of beheading Joe Paterno on live, national TV.

I think most know where I come down on this subject but hey its a message board. And yes, I'm opening up an 'old wound' because frankly, this son of Pennsylvania doesn't believe its an old wound. The curative power of light has not been applied. The wound has been concealed by Mssrs. Freeh, Surma, Frazier and Peetz (she wants to be part of the boy's club).

The Narrative, is, indeed, finally changing...

Long talk with a few folks from Tempe Az, on Sunday, they were at the sports bar watching the games early9 am pacific, including PSU game, and talked with a bunch of people) regarding Joe...everyone now agreed that it's more commonly accepted now, that Joe did not know anything, did his part as far as what he even knew to do, and the nation engaged in a witch hunt afterward.

These are people who follow Pac 12 football, exclusively, from all the major markets, Seattle, LA, San Francisco, and Phoenix.

30 years old, fan since birth, telling it like it is

This Penn State team is far from the disaster that way too many "fans" on here want to peg it as. Franklin has made a few calls or non-calls that violate the basic tenets of clock management and predictability, but they have also been in the position to win games; even the Ohio State game would be a vastly different outcome given a few early penalties and dropped passes. But let's look at the one thing so few fair-weather fans like to look at - the record: 7-3.

By many measures this team is doing better than it did last year. So we had our "Illinois" game of this year against a better team in Northwestern, and we skunked the Illinois team that sadly got by us last season. I'll take that reversal. We also inched past Maryland who beat us at home last year. That is improvement even if there are areas of concern, which of course there are. However, I know it gets beat to death around here but the sanctions did have a major impact. To ignore that impact would be to ignore the rate of cancer in Japan following the atomic bombs...the sanctions are a direct link to performance on the field given the depth issues and overall youth. Sorry, but it's true.

Play calling and in-game adjustments have been issues at times and those things fall on the coaches; predictable play calls, lack of creativity and lack of playing to the strengths is a concern. None of that is the entire reason why they lost against Northwestern, however. In fact, maybe if Grant Haley had put a little pine tar on his gloves and we'd all be a bit more chipper today. Maybe if we had run a QB sneak on 3rd and 1, maybe if Joey Julius were kicking off instead of Davis, maybe if we threw down the field more....we'd be 8-2...

But we're 7 and 3. Still have a chance to be 10-3. Won't be any worse than 7-6. Some non-sanctions era Joe teams finished worse than 7-6. Remember that.

Give Franklin a little leash. Let's see what happens over the rest of this year and the next 2. I'm guessing we won't be too upset come this time next season.

"I was a scapegoat" -- some of this sounds very familiar to Penn Staters

"I made one egregious error: I naïvely believed that the task force simply wanted the truth. I was certain that once it had the full record of my actions, everything would be fine, and the trauma my family and I had gone through would end. I was in for a rude awakening. Facts were not what the investigators wanted."

Letter from Sue Paterno to Lettermen

http://www.paterno.com/Sues-Letter/4th-Anniversary.aspx#.Vjuo0vmrRpj
November 5, 2015

Dear Lettermen,

November 9 is the fourth anniversary of Joe's firing by the Board of Trustees and their wholesale indictment of the football program and the Penn State culture. Joe and I knew they had acted rashly, but we were hopeful that, with the benefit of time, they would correct their mistakes and set the record straight.

While much progress has been made in the last four years, the Administration, the NCAA and Louis Freeh have yet to acknowledge fully the extent of their errors. Worse yet, they are still waging an all-out campaign to keep the facts from ever seeing the light of day.

I write to you now to let you know that we have not given up on setting the record straight – and we never will. Four years of secrecy are enough. The victims, their families, each of you and everyone who cares about Penn State deserve the truth.

The sad history of this case is that the Board of Trustees took a terrible tragedy and made it worse. Their complete reliance on the deeply flawed Freeh report and their total capitulation to the NCAA were terrible mistakes that needlessly and recklessly tarnished the reputation of this great university.

Our only options are to give in and accept the allegation that Penn State was consumed with a corrupt culture, or fight for the truth. You and I know what Joe would have expected us to do. Penn State's culture is a treasure. It is worth fighting for. And the truth is not to be feared, but embraced.

Because these issues are currently being litigated, I am not able to comment on specific aspects of the case. What I can tell you is we respect the courts, and we welcome a chance to have the facts finally reviewed in a setting that honors transparency and due process.

Finally, I want you to know how proud I am of each of you. What you do with your lives is the ultimate testament to the Penn State culture. My life continues to be consumed with children and grandchildren and raising money for the causes Joe and I cared so much about. I also continue to pray for the victims and hope that the lessons of the Sandusky case will open eyes throughout our society.

I cherish my memories with all of you. I love Penn State more every day, which is why I will see this case to its proper resolution. I wish you and your families the best for the holidays.

With love,

Sues-Signature.png

P.S. Please hold the date...September 17, 2016, marks the 50th anniversary of Joe's first game as head coach. We are planning a special event to honor all that you accomplished. I will be back to you with more information about plans for that weekend.

Feudale Email Exposes Beemer, Others

AG First Deputy, Bruce Beemer's claim that Kane's conduct in releasing private emails was unethical seemingly pales in comparison to other potential misconduct in the case of the PSU 3.

By

Ray Blehar

In a memo to top attorneys in the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office (OAG), Bruce Beemer alleged that AG Kathleen Kane had conducted herself unethically for producing the so-called "private emails" of former (bumbling) grand jury judge, Barry Feudale.

In what should come as no surprise to anyone who has closely followed this case, Beemer has his own ethical issues regarding his handling of evidence in the cases of the PSU 3 (i.e., Timothy Curley, Gary Schultz, and Graham Spanier).

And what also should come as no surprise, the evidence involves emails.

Spanier Discovery Request

On September 9, 2014, counsel for Spanier joined a motion by the attorneys for Curley and Schultz requesting discovery of emails between Feudale and Fina regarding his removal as grand jury judge AND any correspondence about the Conspiracy of Silence case. See below.

On September 9, 2014, the Commonwealth responded and clarified that First Deputy Attorney Bruce Beemer was the "lead prosecutor" since the filing of charges on November 1st, 2012. Prior to the filing of charges, Senior Deputy Attorney General Jonelle Eshbach was the lead prosecutor on the case and was supervised by Chief Deputy Attorney General Frank G. Fina.

The Spanier filing also revealed the Beemer was instrumental in directing the searches for emails and in responding to requests of the status of the discovery.

How dumb do they think we are? How corrupt do WE know THEY are?

Faced with all of these requests for clearly relevant and critical information regarding the investigation and prosecution of Sandusky, Judge Cleland – who both presided over the Sandusky trial, and now presides over the PCRA hearings – IGNORES ALL OF THESE REQUESTS, but instead chooses to capitalize on this opportunity to join his co-horts in a vendetta against Kathleen Kane?

So, Jerry Sandusky’s attorney, in his Post Conviction Relief Act petition, asks for the following information – all of which is directly related to the investigation and prosecution of Sandusky:

Regarding False Statements made by the Prosecution throughout the Trial:

He requests the ability to take sworn statements from:

Allen Myers (a Sandusky victim)
Corporal Leiter and Trooper Ellis of the PSP
Inspector Corricelli of the USP Inspection Service
Prosecuting Attorney Joseph McKettigan

He requests copies of any communications between Allen Myers (or his representatives) and any of the Commonwealth's attorneys or prosecutors

With regard to any Financial Incentives the Victims may have had in conjunction with their Testimony:

He requests copies of any signed agreements between the victims (Myers, Houtz, Fischer, Struble, Konstas and Simcisko) and their private civil attorneys

With regard to concerns over Constitutionality Issues and Due Process:

He requests copies of any reports that may exist regarding the James Reeder investigation into the leaks from the Grand Jury that investigated Sandusky. [FWIW, Reeder was appointed BY Judge Barry Fuedale to “investigate” the leaks emanating from the Grand Jury RUN BY Judge Fuedale. I can’t imagine any conflict of interest there.]

and, the right to take sworn statements from:

Attorneys Frank Fina and Jonelle Eschbach of the Office of Attorney General
Reporter Sara Gannim
Psychologist Michael Gillum
Aaron Fischer
Dawn Hennessy
Deb McCord

And anyone else who may have had access to the proceedings of the Grand Jury.

And access to all documents and communications between members of the Judiciary and members of the Office of Attorney General throughout the investigation.

Ignoring all of the requests for information surrounding the investigation and trial of Sandusky, Judge Cleland instead:

Orders Kathleen Kane….who wasn’t even the Attorney General at the time of the Sandusky investigation or trial….to turn over any information SHE may have regarding Grand Jury leaks.

You couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried.

How dumb does Cleland believe the public is?

Better question, just how corrupt are the Pennsylvania Judiciary and Prosecutorial Offices?

Just another way PSU sticks it to the consumer

I just called to pre-pay for RV over night lot stay for the Michigan game. They wanted to charge me the full $120 over the phone. I asked why I didn't get a $15 discount for my already paid for yellow parking pass like I do when I pay cash day of arrival at the RV lot. Response I get is we can't confirm you bought the yellow parking pass. I say look up my account it's clearly on the invoice. Response - Sorry we can't do that.

I was seriously thinking of moving to club seats for next year, but it's crap like this that will probably keep me from laying out more money to PSU.

John Yonchuk: Shedding TRUTH on The Second Mile’s Decision Making

The recent controversy over the Army-Penn State honorary coin toss, specifically about local business owner and Second Mile co-founder/Board Member Bruce Heim, provided the media and the nation yet another chance to see the duplicity and arrogance with which the Penn State Board of Trustees has been operating since the Jerry Sandusky scandal came to light. Current Penn State Trustee Ryan McCombie nominated Mr. Heim, a West Point grad and Army vet, to represent the Vietnam War and stand at midfield, center stage so to speak, at Beaver Stadium. The incident opened a door for the local, state, national media, and authorities to focus once again on the failures of The Second Mile and, more specifically, its leaders Mr. Heim and Dr. Jack Raykovitz.

The University either ‘forgot’ or just didn’t care how this honor would appear to Sandusky’s victims, who they spent great money assuaging, starting two years ago in the legal settlements totaling well over $60 million and continuing with more undisclosed settlements since. If Mr. Sandusky was the public face of The Second Mile, then surely Heim was the brains of the operation. He was the suave local businessman who handled operations. He had intimate knowledge of all things related to the charity. Penn State rescinded the invitation after a flood of complaints, but in his responses to the story, we learned directly from Mr. Heim exactly what he did know Heim admitted to direct knowledge of the 2001 incident witnessed by Mike McQueary in the Lasch football building. Mr. Heim’s response to the situation has confirmed he and the executive committee were told of the 2001 incident by Dr. Raykovitz, but claims it was nothing inappropriate.

Contradicting such a notion of “nothing inappropriate” is the fact that Raykovitz and Heim both admit to discussing this matter with staff members inside Second Mile. What we don’t know is what specifically Raykovitz discussed. Was Raykovitz looking for confirmation of previous behaviors? Many in the local community are open that rumors of Jerry’s penchant for being in intimate situations with young boys was rampant for years prior to 2001. More importantly, why would Raykovitz need input from low-level staff? He was a licensed child psychologist trained in recognizing signs of child abuse, and a mandated reporter. Heim, in his role as board member, was also a mandated reporter. A trained professional should have immediately raised a flag when told of the situation: an older man naked and alone with a young boy late at night in a private space. Most child advocates and experts would agree that alone is enough to warrant suspicion. Similar acts in 1998 alerted Dr. Alicia Chambers to file a report against Sandusky. The media has reported that a septuagenarian football coach “should have known,” but had nothing to say about the licensed child psychologist, Dr. Jack Raykovitz, who failed to report the 2001 incident. Even if nothing overtly specific was reported, one might think that Curley’s report to Raykovitz, the charity’s executive director, informing him of the ban placed on Sandusky from bringing children on campus, was a sign of inappropriate behavior that warranted further investigation. Incredibly, Heim stated that Curley came to the charity and told Raykovitz that nothing inappropriate happened. However, a report in the Delaware County Times contradicts Mr. Heim’s account. In that report, citing a person close to the case, Raykovitz is quoted in response to Curley: “Are you trying to tell me that you think Jerry Sandusky is a pedophile?” suggesting Curley had lost his mind. The evidence (and common sense) tells us that Curley reported that Sandusky’s behavior was inappropriate.. No matter, the businessman Heim told the licensed child psychologist Raykovitz to not only ignore the complaint, but to bury it from the larger organization, despite Raykovitz’s position as a licensed, trained, state-mandated reporter. So we now have documentary proof of where the break in the reporting chain was. It broke at the two mandated reporters, Heim and Raykovitz, within The Second Mile, not at Penn State. Penn State administrators consulted with legal counsel on their obligation to report, yet there is no evidence that Heim or Raykovitz consulted with theirs. Why? Legal counsel would surely have informed both that they were bound by law to report it, both overseeing children directly and thus being mandated reporters in their capacities at The Second Mile.

So there we were on October 1st, with Penn State preparing to honor the man who buried the 2001 report. No one else related to the case, whether you think they acted correctly or not, ignored the report and advised anyone to bury it. Each person reported it to whom they thought was the proper link in the chain, until it hit two mandated reporters who directly oversaw Mr. Sandusky in his employed position at the charity. Tim Curley, Gary Schultz, and Graham Spanier were indicted, yet Penn State leadership thought they could walk Mr. Heim to midfield and celebrate all he has done for Penn State supposedly.

Penn State leadership flipped a coin, hoping they could insult everyone who is dedicated to the truth about the Sandusky scandal and the improvement of child protection procedures. They lost. They will keep losing until they allow the truth to be exposed, not locked away in Mr. Freeh’s vault for their eyes only. Heim, Raykovitz, and The Second Mile will have to answer for their judgment soon enough because We Are never going to rest until the truth is known.

Considering the impact of "The Truth"

With all the information that is now publicly available about "Penn State's Criminal Culture" and how this information proves that the Freeh Report is a purposeful lie..... what should be the fallout from all of this considering:

  • Collusion between "sources in the media", PA OAG, Fina, Noonan, Judges and PA court system has been exposed
  • Freeh Report, based on content and what is now public, has been exposed as a fraud
  • Freeh's performance on similar "engagements" for other "clients" has been refuted because of fictitious findings
  • PA officials previously publically admitted no "conspiracy of silence" existed in PA Football program
  • Paterno's handling of "the Sandusky matter" was in full compliance with CURRENT NCAA recommended guidelines
  • The NCAA senior management admitted it had no legal, contractual or charter right to impose sanctions on PSU
  • eMails exist that strongly suggest (if not legally prove) NCAA leadership "targeted PSU with Malice" on the overall Sanctions it levied on the Penn State Football Program
  • That NCAA targeted Joe Paterno PERSONALLY - an unprecedented action (further adding to the malicious intent of the sanctions)
  • The cases against CSS are KNOWN to be bogus by PA officials
  • The Executive BOT has not executed it fiduciary duties as a board and these same members appear to have enjoyed significant $ benefits from their personal association with PA political persons
  • One-way-or-another, all the key players in this 4year old abuse of power and public trust seem to have a link back to Tom Corbett, Linda Kelly, Frank Fina, "pocket" judges
Now that these items are public.....what are the consequences regarding:
  • NCAA Sanctions - Reparations from them to the program
  • ANY LEGAL ACTIONS within the "Sandusky Scandal" grouping - persons charged and/or convicted
  • Can criminal charges be brought against: Freeh, The BOT, the NCAA - for criminal collusion
  • The Second Mile - Can criminal and/or civil charges be brought against those leading this organization

Many more "potential" impact areas, but here is a start. DO WE SEE ANYTHING DONE TO CORRECT THESE CRIMES AGAINST PSU AND PSU "fall guys". What is the impact of all of the above KNOWN revelations??? Guesses please!

OT: Paris Dinner Recommendations

Hi Everyone,

Taking my mother to Paris for the first time. Was looking online for dinner recommendations online but found it somewhat overwhelming since there's so many damn recommendations and I'm not sure how legit they are.

We will be staying around the Louvre area. From those who have been, can anyone recommend a solid place to go for an authentic Parisian dinner(~40-60 euros pp). Doesn't have to be super fancy, but was thinking somewhat nicer than your typical french cafe.

Thanks!
