Troy Huhn update

Our 2026 4* QB lives about 30 miles north of me in San Diego...and my son and I went up to watch him play tonight.

The opponent was overmatched...42-0.

Huhn's accuracy and ball is incredible. He really only missed one pass all night. About a 45 yard bomb into the end zone where the receiver just couldn't quite catch up to it. Missed him by inches. The ball just went off of his sprinting fingertips. There was another incompletion that should have been a PI and another one was just dropped. I'd say he was about 17-20 for 280 on the night...3 TDs.

The most impressive throws...a 15 yard sideline fade that the receiver went up and got. Perfect amount of air. And the other, he rolled out to his right and flicked a 40 yard bomb in stride to his WR for a TD.

He doesn't have a lot of mobility...just seems a bit stiff. But his height and arm are stellar. I doubt Allar looked much more mobile than him in his junior year of HS. He looks like a Dan Marino or Jim Kelly of yesteryear...but I don't know if the NFL really features players like him today.

(Also of note, he lost last week against another top-4 San Diego team...the defending CIF champ, Granite Hills. Had a chance to close the lead in the final minutes but threw an end zone pick and that sealed the 28-17 loss. Nevertheless, his team is easily a top 8 county team.)

I'll post more updates throughout the season if I hear or see more...

I hope his commitment to PSU sticks. I'd love to get our SoCal pipeline stronger, especially with USC and UCLA in the league. And he could be the next QB1 at PSU after Grunkmeyer....

One 9-3 team will make the playoff; PSU will be that team if...

Pundits who extrapolate the past dozen or so seasons with how our new playoff system would have played out with past rankings agree that most years a 9-3 team would make the field. We've all heard ad nauseum how Franklin's litany of 10-2 finishes would have earned him more 12-team playoff bids than any other non-playoff teams of the 4-team playoff era.

What will it take for us to get that bid this year?

1. Our 3 losses will need to be against top 15 teams. Ohio State is an obvious one. Will Washington be able to replicate last year's success? Will USC take steps forward? Wisconsin? Those three are really the only obvious candidates for top 15 type seasons to make our 3 losses respectable. If we lose all of them close, but look incredible in our 9 wins, and the Big Ten overall gets national respect, then that would make our resume plausible.

2. The SEC would need to have some strong 10-2 teams but no 9-3 teams to compare with us. And in a similar vein, the Big 12 and ACC would have to have 11-1 teams (or better) but no 10-2 teams with strong resumes to compare with us.

Georgia vs Clemson

This is on when our game is on so we can't watch much of it. It is a huge early matchup with Georgia #1 and Clemson #14. The line is 11.5. This must mean there is not a lot of confidence in Clemson since they are a doube digit dog. Also must mean Vegas thinks Georgia is really good. The game is in Atlanta and expect a big pro Dawg crowd. Interested to see if Clemson can hang with them or not. Can Dabo bring back some magic?

With DT taking over the reins at Oklahoma State, it appears likely that the competition for the top D1 wrestling program will now be between Penn State and Oklahoma State. In addition, Iowa State has broken back into the top 5, and schools like Cornell, Michigan and Arizona State are continuing to field strong programs. At the same time, Iowa seems to be getting pushed further and further back in the list of top teams. With these facts in mind, how relevant will Iowa be going forward with respect to the top teams contending for a national title?

Off topic: If you had a BILLION dollars?

As a poor dog that trolls the boards reading all the posts about this and that got me to thinking ... if you had a BILLION dollars, what would you lavishly spend that money on? I am definitely obsessed with wrestling - I think I would make significant contributions to NCAA / Olympic wrestling (none to Greco though) ....

Nothing would be donated for a PRO league -- too many people would want handouts outside the actual wrestlers ...

I wouldn't give FOOTBALL a nickel -

what would you do?

NIL going political !

This will upset some people but athletes at Montana St are being offered thousands of NIL dollars to endorse a political candidate.

How long before this becomes a national standard ?

This is just crazy. And sad. And disgusting,

OSU starting qb grew up rooting for PSU

Article here

From the article:
“Howard isn’t new to Big Ten environments. grew up in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, where he developed into a three-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class. But back then he wasn’t rooting for a Buckeye win instred rooting for his hometown Penn State Nittany Lions.”

Did we recruit him? Perhaps he was only bloomer, considering the article indicates he was a 3-star.
