U17 worlds

Greco happening right now. These Raney brothers are straight up studs. 5 guys wrestled today and 4 went 0-1 and are eliminated. Jayden Raney at 55kg went 4-0 and is wrestling for gold. He went down 6-0 in the semis before getting double unders, forcing his opponent to his butt and then running a good old half for the fall. His brother Jordyn who I think is the better of the 2 wrestles tomorrow at 60kg. Both brothers competed at 60kg in freestyle at the trials with Jordyn winning the weight. In greco they went different weights and both won so Jordyn is wrestling both styles. They are absolutely fearless on the mat. Just get after it and put up a ton of points. Whoever gets them for college is going to be very happy. Kids are winners

Day 1 results

We also have a couple absolute hammers in the women’s division in Morgan Turner and Taina Fernandez. Turner won U17’s last year. Fernandez has pretty much won everything but this is her first time wrestling at worlds. This past year she won 3 college opens including Midlands as a high school freshman. Both these ladies are true phenoms and are going to make senior level teams in the near future. Piper Fowler is a rising senior and also was a U17 champ last year. Only 6 girls are competing because of the travel issues and safety concerns that came up right before they were supposed to leave.

I’m reading When the Lions Roared by Bill Contz. The story of the ’82 Nittany Lions which happened to be my junior year and first year at main campus. I’ve read some stories that I haven’t heard before. I’m up to Sugar Bowl week and can’t wait to find out how we do against Herschel Walker and #1 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl! Who doesn't love a happy ending?

Breakdown of WVU Garrett Greene

WVU GREENE FILM STUDY

See link above. Advanced Stats/Film Study hybrid. The interesting thing with Greene is that he's 180 from the types of QB's the WVU coach had at Troy and has had at WVU. Big Game Hunter, "Just chuck it deep" kind of guy with a low completion percentage....but that style of play essentially saved Brown's job last year. It'll be interesting how much Greene or the coaching staff tries to mess with that.

Obligatory PSU Pregame Show

OBLIGATORY PSU-WVU PREVIEW

See Link above for Ep. 1, WVU preview. Recall a couple people asking what happened to this show last year...used to be on all the regional cable sports networks (AT$T Pitt, NBC Sports Philly, NESN, etc.) Well, it's back...just not on TV. Same format, same presentation...it's just on YouTube now. Sadly, the economics of cable TV didn't make sense anymore...but the show goes on. Full season this season online.

OSU cutting funding for olympic sports, should we consider it next?

Ohio State going to lead the way on this one, and I'd expect many B1G/SEC schools to follow.

Many saw this coming, but Ohio State prepared to cut around 150 scholarships.

"We'll still have scholarships, we'll still have programs," Carter said. "Some of those sports may start to look and act a little bit more like a club sport, but yet compete at the Division I level and still travel and still compete."
